Remember - the teenage years aren't forever. Imagine, if you can, a king with two younger brothers. One of them, the youngest, is hardworking and loyal, a little dull, but always shows up when needed. The middle brother is flamboyant, egotistical, entitled, unreliable and capable of great cruelty and abusive behaviour. After putting up with this for perhaps longer than might be expected, eventually the Crown loses patience and the law takes its course. This is, of course, the story of George, Duke of Clarence, the wayward brother of Edward IV, who lived from 1448 to 1479 when he was executed by being drowned in a butt of Malmsey wine. His bones are stored in a vault in Tewkesbury Abbey in Gloucestershire. For a bank holiday special episode of this podcast I spoke to Professor James Clark of the University of Exeter about the Duke of Clarence and the strange resonances with the modern day. Recently, "Teen Takeovers" have started happening in places like our nation's capital of Washington, D.C. What is a "Teen Takeover" and how can we stop it? Guess you'll just have to tune in to find out! MAGA! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
We have a team filled with injuries, playing bad baseball and managed by a bad manager right now… it was another ugly weekend for the Mariners. What should have been an exciting moment feel flat as Colt Emerson was called up from Tacoma in more of an emergency, last minute scenario and not at all how we had hoped the call-up would happen. :30- Mariners Morning After The Mariners got swept by the Padres over the weekend and swept the season, taking home the coveted Vedder Cup. George Kirby started out looking good, but then the 6th inning happened and it certainly didn't help that the team managed just one hit all game. :45- The NBA conference finals begin tonight with OKC and the Spurs facing off. Could the Spurs continue their in-season success against the Thunder? People were not happy with Shams for leaking the MVP award news; honest mistake or planned leak? Should the real conversation be how on earth SGA won it again over Jokic? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This book gets a 4.3 rating on Goodreads with more than 100,000 reviews. The facilitator for this meeting will be LeDon: ledonb@outlook.com. The Meeting link is at heading level 1. My review Come and walk with me as we step back into yesteryear. Let us turn to the year 1963. That was the year that the book, “The Feminine Mystique” DB53797 by Betty Friedan was published and quickly became a bestseller. It would be hard to overstate the influence that book had on the culture of its time, as it urged society to reconsider the limits placed on women's education, careers, and sense of self. In many ways, the book helped start what we now think of as the modern feminist movement. It encouraged the growth of organizations like the National Organization for Women and gave strength to groups calling for workplace pay and equality, reproductive rights, and legal reform. Even now, its influence can still be felt, reflecting forward into groups like the Me-Too movement. Marie Bostwick is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She faithfully brings back those times and those attitudes with her absorbing historical novel, “The Book Club for Troublesome Women A Novel”, DB130925 which is a warm, character-driven story about women, friendship, and personal growth, blending historical settings of the nineteen sixties with emotional, relatable moments. At its heart, it gently follows women as they discover their voices and begin to step more fully into their own sense of being, showing how even the smallest acts of courage can slowly reshape a life. As the story starts, Margaret Ryan, A housewife and mother of three has decided that she would like to start a book club. She decides to look at her neighbors and friends to see if she could find others who would like to be a part of her new book club. She first finds Vivian a former nurse and mother of six who thinks that she would like to be in the book club. She discovers, Bitsy a young woman who has given up her childhood wish to become a veterinarian to become a wife and home maker. She thinks that being part of a book club would be fun. Lastly, she finds Charlotte, A wife and mother who is also an aspiring artist. She joins the club with the others. their first meeting is held at Margaret's home. She prepares the food for the club meeting with care, and as they sit together eating and talking These women all know that they have The American Dream resting in the palm of their hand, A husband, children, a home in the suburbs and a new car in the driveway. They all have been taught that they should be happy and satisfied with their lives. However, deep down inside of their subconscious mind there is a little voice that whispers, there should be more. At the first meeting, they enjoy a splendid evening drinking wine and visiting with each other, they decide that the first book that they will read for their new book club will be “The Feminine Mystique”, At the next book club meeting, they find that they are all so excited by the concepts in Betty Friedan's book that they name themselves the Bettys. They do not realize that the power of the innovative ideas in this book will over the coming years slowly change the landscape of each of their lives. — Reading The Book “the Book Club for Troublesome Women” ,is more than just a pleasurable way to spend a few hours, it is a unique experience.

It might not be obvious in Aotearoa, but there's something like 1400 different species of snails! They're in many groups and with many different jobs to do, in the forests, in liquid habitats, on tree trunks, and in your garden. Native snails consume dead and decaying leaves, fungus, and algae (they don't eat your veggie garden) and leave behind nutrient-rich poo for soil health. The Leaf-veined slug is one of those Molluscs that slithers around in the evening and at night. Their movement can be relatively smart, especially when they cruise on outdoor furniture or on leaves. Here they clean surfaces – literally! I've always called them the Wet & Forget slug, simply because they leave those clean tracks where-ever they went. Paryphanta the kauri snail. A serious native snail with almost 80 mm diameter shell. It occurs from Kaitaia to the southern parts of Northland. It's even distributed to Titirangi and Laingholm, where I used to have it on our lawn, especially at night. I'll never forget having to remove these massive snails before mowing the lawn! They are carnivorous: eating worms, insect larvae, and other snail species. The way they catch the worms is akin to sucking up spaghetti from the layers in the soil! Limax maximus (literally: “the largest slug”) also known as the leopard slug. Introduced into New Zealand and has a habit of getting inside our homes, especially when there's a cat with milk in its bowl. The slurping by this slug can be heard by the neighbours! And here is one of those introduced snails that can cause a lot of damage to your garden: Cantareus Asperses, the Brown Garden Snail. It's originally from Northern Africa and taken to France, a long, long time ago, it was introduced to NZ with European settlers. Troublesome eater of leaves etc in massive numbers; hiding under pots during the day and always more numerous than you think. One of the so-called “control” measures is spreading sharp chicken eggshells around the plants, so that the snails can't walk over those sharp items. This picture shows one of those snails crossing over a brand-new, super sharp knife… One historical story is far more important than sharp knives: this snail species is one of the preferred snails that French people cultivate and use to create Escargot. Snail farming in New Zealand might not be a bad idea – it makes that protein a lot cheaper with the rising prices of our food! LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Few bilateral arrangements in modern trade diplomacy can match the scale or ambition of what the ‘mother of all deals' has unlocked. The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
Hosted by Dr. Jacinta Delhaize, Dr. Tshiamiso Makwela & Dr. Daniel Cunnama. In this "mid-season special" episode, we introduce you to an extraordinary giant radio galaxy nicknamed "Inkathazo", meaning 'trouble' in isiXhosa and isiZulu. We speak with Kathleen Charlton, a Master's student from the University of Cape Town, about the discovery of Inkathazo and her newly published work on the topic. Kathleen spoke with us from the University of Oxford, where she was working with team members from the 'MIGHTEE' collaboration. She describes her experiences of first attending the AGN Populations Across Continents and Cosmic Time conference in Durham and then her research visit to Oxford. She also explains her research into both hydrogen absorption and giant radio galaxies. In her newly published paper, Kathleen uses South Africa's MeerKAT telescope to study the strange physics going on in three giant radio galaxies (or GRGs for short). GRGs are behemoth galaxies spewing out plasma jets spanning millions of light-years. She nicknamed one of these 'Inkathazo', which means 'trouble' in the African Xhosa and Zulu languages, because of its "troublesome" properties. It has unusually bent plasma jets and resides at the center of a galaxy cluster. This raises intriguing questions about how these enormous structures form and evolve. Kathleen describes how she used MeerKAT to create some of the highest-resolution "spectral age maps" of giant radio galaxies ever made. These maps track the age of the plasma across different parts of the GRG, providing clues about the complex plasma physics at work in these extreme galaxies. It's 1963, four housewives living in the same suburb start a book club. Margaret dreams of becoming a writer, Charlotte an artist, Bitsy a vet, and Viv would like to return to nursing. They all have kids except the youngest member, Betsy, who desperately wants to be a mother. Charlotte says she will join the book club only if they read The Feminine Mystique. This sent up a red flag for me because of preconceived notions about the women's movement, which brought both good and bad. Anything that demeans God's role of motherhood makes me wonder if the author was blessed with children. After going down that rabbit hole, I discovered she had three children. In the book, How to Read a Book, the authors caution about forming an opinion before finishing a text, that is powerful advice. I learned a lot. What surprised me was that a married woman wasn't able to open a checking account without her husband's signature. I also got an up close and personal glimpse of overbearing husbands and it wasn't pretty. I had the opposite growing up, my dad never talked down to my mom, she lamblasted him.The story is mostly about Margaret and how the past haunts her. Margaret's marriage hits some bumps when she starts writing a column for A Woman's Place, which Walt, her husband, refers to as her jobette. When honesty clears the lies he's been believing, he makes an about face!Don't grab a cigarette or a stinger, just sip some tea and enjoy the recap on The Book Club for Troublesome Women : )
Wisconsin’s wine grape harvest is underway, and at Bailey’s Run Vineyard in New Glarus, manager Aimee Arrigoni is watching the weather closely. She oversees six acres and 3,000 vines. The early Edelweiss has already been picked, but later-ripening reds are still waiting on September warmth. Recent swings between hot and unusually cool temperatures have stalled sugar levels, raising the risk of fruit damage from birds, bees, and disease. Despite the challenges, Arrigoni says yields are strong and quality is high, with promising reds like Marquette and Petite Pearl set for harvest later this month into early October.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
