God shows up regardless of the place or person. He showed up in Bethlehem and to a lowly group of shepherds. God shows up because love is showing up.

Colors of Christmas Week 3

Will you be devoted in the dark? When you're having a blue Christmas and it feels like the lights have gone out, we can do what Joseph did in scripture. We can choose to Wait in the dark, Respond in the dark, and Believe in the dark. 

Today we're looking at the color Gold. When we look at the Christmas story we find the color gold associated with three men—they are called the wise men. They traveled a long, long way to find the Christ-child. But what was the most valuable gift that was given in the story of the wise men? And what can we learn from the gifts that were given? As we focus on the color white, we examine the life of the Virgin Mary. We look at how, where, and for whom she lived a pure life in the presence of God. We can avoid being overwhelmed by being overshadowed and drawing near to God.

Today we're looking at the color Blue. What happens when Christmas doesn't go according to plan? How do we handle it when circumstances rob us of the joy of the season? The Magi showed their attention and affection for the newborn King Jesus by searching, seeing, and worshiping. In this season we can move from consuming Christmas to adoring Christ by giving to God, inviting a friend, and bowing in worship.

This month, we're going to focus on The Colors of Christmas. Today we're looking at the color Green. At Christmas the color Green is just about everywhere—the garlands, the wreath and of course the tree. The Green decorations of Christmas speak of the promise of life and hope in a season of barren trees and gloomy skies. The birth of Christ also speaks of that promise.
