“True Love Waits” Well, if you love The Coronas, you didn’t have to wait too long for the follow-up to 2017’s Trust The Wire. But because of the global pandemic, you might have to wait a bit to see one of the best live bands on the planet in the flesh. In the meantime, the Dublin outfit’s new long player True Love Waits is one of the most riveting, soul-affirming and rousing albums of 2020. Making his third appearance on the podcast, singer Danny O’Reilly talks to Alex about staying creative in the time of Covid, how sports keep our days structured and living with the void of physical contact. Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Danny O'Reilly of The Coronas! The Coronas’ 13-year journey has definitely been unique. With a handful of multi-platinum selling albums and a huge fan base in their native Ireland, they were just about to embark on a planned six-month world tour in support of their long-awaited sixth album when a certain unfortunately named virus spoiled the party. Resilience, however, has won out, and the band are now back on track to release TRUE LOVE WAITS, their first new album in three years, on July 31 with rescheduled tour dates and a point to prove.Looking back on the last several surreal months, Coronas’ frontman Danny O’Reilly reveals: “The first thing we did, as the crisis unfolded, was tweet Corona Beer, asking them what their plan was.” Their outreach remains unanswered. “Now when we chat to our mates in bands who have also had to postpone gigs and tours, I just remind them things could be worse--you could share a name with the virus!”The Coronas-,Heat of The MomentThe Coronas,Find The Waterwww.makingascene.org,The CoronasThe Coronas-, True Love WaitsThe Coronas,Cold

‘We’ve been on your Instagram and seen your exes and it’s clear that looks aren’t important to you’ This week, we talk to the soundest rock-star in the bizz Danny O’Reilly of The Coronas about all things nineties. Recorded in the Harbourmaster in the heart of Dublin IFSC, Danny took us back to his first gig in the Catholic all-girls secondary schools Santa Maria, Joseph and the Techi-color Dreamcoat; saying goodbye to songs when they’re shite, the joy of being right, his composition of Britney Spears’ major international hit ‘Everytime’, his initial impressions of 16 year old Emma Doran (turns out she was able to chat to the lads, who would have that our resident wallflower had it in her?), getting the shift and getting star-struck, selling out the 3 Arena (thrice), why Dublin will always be home, his song-writing process, and answers the perennial question: is heartbreak really more inspiring than love? It turns out Danny is a bit of a banter factory so the conversation flowed over chicken wings and Sol (we tried to get actual Corona, but, you know yourself, it’s just business innit). Danny talks growing up with musical legend Mary Black as a mom, Dublin football, his relationship with Uber talented sister Róisín O, discusses why he’s now much more guarded about his personal life and just how proud he is of his senator auntie Frances. He even throws in cúpla focail and gives us his two cents on why he believes Gaeilge is so important to Irish identity. Get in touch with us on Twitter and Insta @Upto90Podcast
