After that, they talk about the new Ethel Cain album and disagree slightly on its strengths and weaknesses (24:13). This week's All One Song guest is the definition of a multi-hyphenate — your friend and ours, Jesse Jarnow. Jesse is an incredible writer, having penned such essential books as Big Day Coming: Yo La Tengo and the Rise of Indie Rock, Heads: A Biography of Psychedelic America, Wasn't That a Time: The Weavers, the Blacklist, and the Battle for the American Soul, and the forthcoming epic, The Invisible Hit Parade: A People's History of Recorded Music. You're probably going to recognize Jesse's voice. He's a longtime DJ over at WFMU, the world's greatest free-form independent radio station, hosting the Frow Show every Tuesday night, bringing strange and wonderful sounds to the masses. He's also a podcaster, writing and co-producing the amazing Good Ol' Grateful Deadcast, which recently kicked off its 12th season. The Deadcast's depth of research, insight and sweet vibes puts pretty much every other podcast to shame—including this one. Finally, Jesse is one-third of Sloppy Heads, a long-running Brooklyn-based band with two excellent albums, Useless Smile and Sometimes Just One Second under their belt. Now that we've gotten Jesse's bona fides out of the way … which Neil Young song did he select to talk about with us on All One Song? Well, Jesse dug way down in the rust bucket for “Sedan Delivery,” a raucous number that first appeared on the classic 1979 Crazy Horse LP Rust Never Sleeps. “Sedan Delivery”'s history stretches back several years, though — Neil and the Horse first tried it out during the Zuma sessions in 1975, giving it a somewhat lumbering lope. You can hear that version these days on Chrome Dreams. But with the subsequent dawning of punk, Neil and the crew injected this weird, semi-sci-fi with a dose of pure, demonic energy. Though it was hard to find in setlists for a little while there, by the mid-'90s, it became a mainstay in Crazy Horse's live repertoire, giving the band a chance to gleefully drive 90 miles an hour down a dead-end street. Everything, Now! emerged from Indiana's underground rock music scene in the early 2000s. Formed in Muncie in 2003, they gained notoriety for their chaotic sound and unpredictable live shows. Fronted by the guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jon Rogers, Everything, Now! has released 7 albums and attracted a loyal base of supporters. The band recently visited WFYI to record a live set for Small Studio Sessions, and they spoke with Kyle Long after their performance.
Episode 332 features New Junk City, an indie rock band from Atlanta. I've become a big fan of theirs was happy to get them on the show. Their sound could be described as a mix of Gin Blossoms and Menzingers-style punk. In the interview, I spoke with John and Dakota, where we discussed their new album Beg a Promise and my favorite track from it, Rosey. We also talked about their tours in Europe, their recording process, and their day jobs. They will have some shows coming up so definitely keep tabs on their instagram if you interested. This week on Caught on the Mike, I sit down with Alex Dugan, the magnetic frontman of Culture Wars, to talk about the band's latest single “Lies”—a raw, emotional 90s-tinged alt-rock ballad that's already making waves. We get into the heart of the song's origin—written in the aftermath of heartbreak and betrayal, and shaped by the realization that everything musically was about to change. Inspired by a life-altering New Order concert and years in the making, “Lies” has grown from synth beginnings to a powerful full-band anthem that now closes every Culture Wars show. Alex opens up about the vulnerability behind the lyrics, the band's sonic evolution, and how this track paved the way for everything Culture Wars would become. We also talk about their massive year—touring with Wallows, Keane, and LANY, hitting the top 20 on alt radio, and gearing up for their headline shows in LA and NYC. This is more than just a conversation about a song—it's a conversation about trusting your gut, healing through art, and finding the courage to put it all out there.
The Big Mates discuss CM Punk, Ennio Morricone, Tommy Lee Jones, and Favourite Worst Nightmare by Arctic Monkeys. Adam, Steve, and Lucas continue and conclude their discussion of the band's second album, providing analysis and opinion as they finish up their track-by-track exploration. They discuss the final tracks of the album and then offer up their thoughts and feelings on the album as a whole, give it a score out of ten, and then explore the how the album was received when it came out, and how that perception may have changed over time. They also find time to talk about the band's tour, their headline set at Glastonbury Festival, and their huge shows at Old Trafford. Is this Adam's last episode? In this special episode of Digging Up the Underground, we sit down with Rachel Harney, the powerhouse vocalist and guitarist behind the rising UK alt-rock band Danama. From forming via a Facebook post in 2021 to dropping their bold, emotionally-charged debut album Did You Know?, Danama has emerged as a voice for the unheard—combining indie, pop, and punk rock with deeply personal storytelling about mental health, identity, and empowerment. Rachel opens up about the origin of the band's name, the journey to self-producing their debut under Epictronic Records, and how they bring both high energy and raw vulnerability to the stage. We dive into their creative process, standout tracks like “The Devil in Me” and “On My Skin,” and what it means to lead a female-fronted rock act in today's evolving music scene. This is more than a conversation—it's a deep exploration of music made for those battling their inner critic and ready to scream back.

Back together and back in the Flamingo Lounge is Sunday Reign, a four-piece alternative rock band from Buffalo, NY, formed in 2022. The lineup features Michael Delano (vocals, guitar), Owen Krieger (guitar), Sean Laettner (drums), and Alex Cousins (electric cello). Sunday Reign's sound hits a balance between heaviness and beauty. It's high-energy, emotional, and unfiltered—driven by thick guitars, honest vocals, and the electric cello, which adds a unique edge that feels like it always belonged in rock music. New music is set to release soon with the band aiming to step fully into the national alt-rock scene. Sunday Reign joined Rockabilly Greg on July 1, 2025 for a fun conversation and acoustic recordings of three new songs.
Steven and Ian open with a conversation about Steven's upcoming trip to London and whether he'll actually get to see Oasis (1:27). Then they talk about the Fantasy Album Draft and how Clipse did slightly worse than Steven hoped, perhaps because there's "dad rap" fatigue with critics (6:07). They also talk about the new album by Alex G, and how he was able to make his most accessible music without losing his essential Alex G-ness (1950).Then they transition to the new Deftones single, and how the long-running metal act keeps growing in public estimation (34:43). Finally, they conclude with a discussion of Tame Impala's Currents, which turns 10 this week (46:13).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks up the up emo band Sport and Steven reps for psych-rock veteran Andy Boay (58:29).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. The Big Mates discuss Avril Lavigne, Stewie Griffin, Duran Duran, and Favourite Worst Nightmare by Arctic Monkeys. Adam, Steve, and Lucas begin their dissection of the band's follow up to the hugely successful debut by talking about awards ceremonies, the mounting pressure they must have felt, and the attitude going into the creation of the record. They discuss the writing, rehearsal, and recording of the album, explore the overall themes and sound, and begin their track-by-track analysis, exploring the composition, tone, lyrics, meaning, and context for each song in turn - all from three differing perspectives, from being deeply into music and analysis, to not caring for art or critique, and everything in between! How did the band expand their sound? How do you eat a creme egg? Will Arctic Monkeys take our advice on what to do after their first album? Every album is important to every band, but some have greater impact than others. Look no further than the Sweet Lizzy Project (www.sweetlizzyproject.com). The now Nashville-based band's first album Heaven, was released 10 years ago this year and literally changed their lives. Recorded in a humble studio in Havana, Cuba, Heaven ended up in the hands of Raul Malo, lead singer/songwriter for the Miami-based Americana band the Mavericks as he was scouting bands and locations to film the 2017 PBS special Havana Time Machine. One listen and Raul not only included the band in the special, but also brought them to the US. In this episode, Sweet Lizzy Project lead singer Lisset Diaz makes a return appearance to discuss Heaven, which the band is rereleasing to celebrate its 10-year anniversary. Join me as Lisset recounts how a part-time hobby turned into an album that uprooted and changed their lives. It can be cliché to say that music changes lives, but Lisset and her band are living proof. Dig in!

They also talk about the recent Glastonbury Festival and speculate on why European music festivals look so much more fun than American ones (22:11).
