The Last Call is a show that Jared and Nick record after the most recent Gamescast. We engage in small talk, trade personal stories and talk about anything that is on our mind that didn't make it into the proper Gamescast. This week we talk about Utah porn, Snoop Dogg wine and sushi on a conveyer. Discord
Four years ago, Jamie Fay was hand-packing cases of beer, loading them into a pickup truck, and delivering them door to door across Southern California. Today, RationAle Brewing is one of the fastest-growing non-alcoholic craft beer brands in the country — tracking 150% year-over-year growth and on pace to sell over 100,000 cases this year.In this episode, Jamie — RationAle's co-founder and CEO — shares how he built the business by staying hyper-focused on product quality, consumer connection, and a smart go-to-market strategy that prioritized velocity over vanity metrics. With five core SKUs and a best-selling Mexican Lager that accounts for 40% of sales, RationAle is now in eight markets and is preparing to double that footprint in the next 12 months. You'll hear how Jamie broke into the system without a single VC check — closing $5 million from more than 90 individual investors. He also explains the critical role that an early partnership with a juice distributor played in unlocking retail access when traditional options weren't available. We also get into:Why going “a mile deep” in a few markets created the foundation for long-term growthHow Jamie and his team built retail distribution through relentless in-store sampling and eventsThe tactical playbook he uses to enter new markets with traction and credibilityLessons from raising capital in today's environment — and how to survive thousands of rejectionsWhy Jamie thinks founders need to be paranoid (in a good way) to succeed in this businessIf you're trying to build a beverage brand with purpose, hustle, and staying power — this episode is chock-full of insights.Last Call:Think you know who's drinking THC beverages? Think again. In this week's Last Call on we dig into a recent report from Sightlines — and the regional trends might surprise you. The big takeaway: This isn't a coastal Gen Z trend. It's a demographic mosaic across ages and earning levels — and brands need to localize their marketing strategies fast. Community is a big thing for Little Bird Brewing, being right in the middle of a neighborhood. It's a meeting place, a place to tell stories, a place to get away for a bit or just get to know your neighbors. No surpise the people who are always there are just as important as the beer. Today's beer the Nestor IPA takes its name from a beloved regular who loved this beer.

Can a snooty cocktail like an espresso Martini be "pinkies up" but still uber-crushable? The way Smile Spirits puts it together it 100% can be. Wrapping up the week with another 7% ABV beverage that is lighter then your massive 15% canned cocktail. The Smile Espressso Martini isn't the end of the night, it's the start of your afternoon.
Don't let the "Spicy" in the Smile Spicy Vodka Mule put you off. A recipe that came from batching cocktails as fast as you could pour them out and realizing that when the peppers don't sit on the liquid for long you get all the flavor and none of the punch!
It's been a Summertime favorite for me the Lemonade Tea Vodka. When you're out and it's hot its just the right about of sweet to tea and at 7% ABV you can have a few with out worrying about taking a nap on the 12th hole.

What does it take to grow a wine brand to over 6 million cases a year — and keep it growing double digits in a declining category? In this episode, we sit down with Dan Kleinman, Chief Brand Officer at Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, to unpack how Josh Cellars has become one of the most remarkable success stories in modern wine.Under Dan's leadership, the Josh team has expanded beyond its loyal Gen X base to capture the attention of younger Millennial and Gen Z drinkers — leveraging storytelling, savvy innovation, and even a viral social media moment that led to a double-digit sales spike and cultural relevance. You'll hear:How the team transformed a humble Napa Cabernet with a heartfelt backstory into a top-selling national brandThe strategy behind Josh's “twin engine” approach: Staying meaningful to Gen X while becoming playful and culturally relevant to younger audiencesHow a viral meme sparked a massive surge in engagement, with Instagram followers jumping 79% in just weeks — and how the team capitalized on itWhy Josh invests 5x more on consumer-facing marketing than the category norm — and how they measure ROIWhy new products like the light, crisp Seaswept are created for younger consumersHow to use data and consumer insights to craft messaging for different audiences — and avoid the “one-size-fits-all” trapDan also shares what drinks founders can learn about channel strategy, emotional brand-building, and why staying curious — about consumers, culture, and the craft of marketing — is essential to success. If you're a drinks entrepreneur looking to build a brand that resonates across generations, connects emotionally, and drives real-world growth, this is an episode you don't want to miss.Last Call:

At the begining of the week Mo from Deft Brewing said they focused on three regions of beer styles: British, Germanic and Belgian. Up to this point we've yet to see a Belgian, so Mo is making up for lost time with a 10% ABV monster Belgian Quad called DeftCon 4.

It's one of the hottest days in July (so far) and Mo from Deft Brewing brings a Porter?! It's OK, Porters happen to be one of my favorite styles of beer and at one point in history more common then you're standard IPA. We get into a little history and a little style with Deft Brewing's Dawn of the Deft Porter.
Between 1991 and 1993, the dismembered bodies of five gay and bisexual men were discovered in garbage bags along the highway in New York and New Jersey. The cause of the death for each was multiple stab wounds, and each victim had been disarticulated into eight pieces and placed in eight garbage bags before being deposited into trash barrels, where they were quickly discovered by a curious member of the public. Despite being discovered in different locations in different states, it didn't take long for investigators to identify the similarities between the victims. They were all older men, single or separated, and all had been seen last around closing time at various New York gay bars. Moreover, the scant evidence found with each bottom appeared to connect the murders back to Staten Island, but told detectives nothing else about the killer. Then, in late 1993, the murders simply stopped and the case went cold. The case of the man the press dubbed “The Last Call Killer” sat on a shelf for nearly a decade before a team of cold case investigators picked it up again, determined to make progress. In the years that passed, advances in technology had allowed for the collection of previously unseen evidence, and it was thanks to that technology that the case was finally solved.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesBen-Ali, Russell, and William Rashbaum. 1993. Mo from Deft Brewing threw down the gauntlet AGAIN! What at first glance I thought was going to be another malty beer, he flipped the table and threw some hops at me. DeftHopt Red is one of three different inspirations for Deft Brewing's IPA offereings and like the beers showcased before is a real treat in a glass.
Mo from Deft is flexing the brewery's style prowess yet again with a beer I'm not sure we've ever had on the program before or at least not under the name Scottish Export. MacDeft is a oddly satifying malty summertime beer, malty sweetness on the nose but a dry a flavorful finish.

Bobby is sick, so we're not able to record this week. He's okay, just feeling under the weather. I thought I'd play this one again because it ties into Bobby's last year of prison. Even though this was recorded in 2021 it talks about 'lasts' which is what Bobby is going through for the next 3 moths. We'll be back next week with a new recording, so stay tuned.Bobby hits a milestone, and Cpt Last Call makes an early appearance.A special thank you to Doug Stanhope, and make sure you visit his website for tour dates, and merchandise.https://www.dougstanhope.com https://twitter.com/DougStanhopeYou can read more about Bobby and prison reform on the website: notesfromthepen.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/NotesFromThePenInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CJYuOh4pKxa/?igshid=y8lo9kbdifvqYouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHN6enhnEfCr6D45TX9kvVAIntro & Outro music created just for Notes From The Pen by PJ Trofibio & Jeff Quintero

Taraney speaks with raw truth about her own journey to reclaiming her womb as a portal of power, healing, and ancestral wisdom. This episode is an invitation to slow down, listen in, and begin tending to the powerful center of your feminine body — not just for your healing, but for the healing of generations past and future.Themes:Why so many women feel resistance to womb work — and how to meet that resistance with tendernessThe womb as a record keeper of our life stories, traumas, and lineageHow to begin decoding your own womb story — and why it's often both painful and liberatingWhat it means to return to the sacred feminine and lead from an embodied, rooted placeThe importance of simply acknowledging your womb — no rituals or perfection needed, just presenceConnect with Amy:
