1959 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney
POPULARITY
One of the classic Disney movies, Sleeping Beauty is beautifully animated and has a very whimsical feel. While the movie is gorgeous, it did lack much of a plot and there are definitely some weird points that are often over looked. Join us as we discuss this wonderful Disney film.
Wonder how Disney uses notions of the medieval to storytell? On this week's episode we discuss the modern medieval classic Sleeping Beauty (1959) with our very first guest and dear classmate, Geanina Beres. Throughout our conversation, we touch upon influential 'medieval' inspiration such as the 19th century Bavarian Neuschwanstein Castle or the 1950's modern design of illustrator Eyvind Earle. You can find our guest Geanina Beres at: @gean.vrtg on Instagram and @GeaninaBeres for Twitter. Munich Episode 05 Ludwig's Dream Castles We're going on a virtual tour of some of the fairy-tale castles built by Ludwig II in the Bavarian countryside so we can enjoy their magnificent, some would say insane, splendour. Hear about Neuschwanstein, believed to have been the inspiration for the castle in Disney's Sleeping Beauty, and Linderhof, where even the hunting lodge was crafted from marble, crystal and mahogany and where the indoor trinkets included a life-sized peacock in Sèvres porcelain. Finally, there's Herrenchiemsee, Ludwig's splendidly deranged attempt to build a copy of the Palace of Versailles. The castles prove that, as one biographer wrote, Ludwig was 'a unique phenomenon of his epoch.' http://www.citybreakspodcast.co.uk
Wanda and Shannan sit down with activist and advocate Meg Bossong to discuss Disney's Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent.
Laura loved Walt Disney's *Sleeping Beauty* as a child, but real life is better than even the prettiest fairy tale.
Kelly & Molly use their extremely limited French vocabularies to praise The Handmaid's Tale S2E9, a stunning return to form for the Hulu series. Whitford Watch and Fallgate/Jumpgate continue as they discover the #1 reason men should watch The Handmaid's Tale, applaud Dorothy Fortenberry's excellent writing, support Max Minghella at Nick's Battle of the Bands show, diss the Waterford's alternative lifestyle, ponder the effects of the Gilead Diet, visit Toronto's blue light district, break down the Flora/Fauna/Meriwether dynamic in Disney's Sleeping Beauty, and there's lots of pandering to Ruffahoes and hometown fans. This episode we discuss Disney's Sleeping Beauty! Our third princess movie from the studio to date. This episode comes with a trigger warning as the source material for Sleeping Beauty does deal with the subject of rape. Aly talks source material, going from Arthurian Romance, Italian folklore, to our favorite Grimm Brothers. Sarrah explains how this feature went through three directors, and sorely missed the leadership of Walt Disney. She also gives us an in-depth discussion about the unique styling of this feature, and how it drove some of its animators to see their doctors! Our feedback leads us to ranting about consent and lack of basic planning skills, as well as a lot of F-bombs dropped by Sarrah. So make sure you stay awake for this! It'll be worth it, we promise.
