This week, The Filmlosophers are flying high as they passionately discuss DreamWorks' latest live-action adaptation, How to Train Your Dragon (2025)! The crew is practically waxing poetic, applauding the studio's incredible efforts to not only successfully adapt a beloved animated property but also deliver something genuinely unique – an experience that, unlike a certain "House of Mouse," feels fresh and distinct from its animated predecessor. From the breathtaking visuals to the heartfelt storytelling, they'll dissect what makes this adaptation soar and why it's setting a new standard for live-action remakes. And speaking of confusion (perhaps from all the excitement!), Host Eddie, in the spirit of recent scheduling mayhem, decides to put the other hosts to the ultimate test. Get ready for a fun and perplexing game of "Guess the Movie from the Poorly Explained Plot!" Join us as we celebrate a truly successful live-action adaptation and a hilarious challenge of cinematic deduction! So pull up a chair, grab your popcorn, and tune in to this week's high-flying dragon ride of an episode of The Filmlosophers!

Our guest on this week's episode is Ian Williams, Technical Services Manager at Orkin. He helps us to understand a subject that few people want to talk about – the pests that often overrun facilities. We are talking mice, rats, bugs, and other critters that get in and destroy products, contaminate areas, and just cause a general nuisance. Williams has some great ideas on how to keep them out of our buildings – and if they get in – to deal with them for good. Often it involves thinking like a mouse.Globally, nearly 60% of companies expect a negative impact from the Trump administration's “Liberation Day” tariff rollout, which happened back on April 2. That's according to a survey of 4,500 companies from around the world, including the United States, conducted in March and April by international credit insurer Allianz Trade. We got some clarity this week about one important aspect of logistics, which is forklifts. This ended a long debate about whether propane-fueled forklifts could operate in warehouses in the state of California, and it had been caught up in a lawsuit. To cut to the chase, propane forklifts will be allowed. We share the details of the new agreement and what it means for California's attempts to have zero-emission vehicles operating in many parts of our supply chains.Supply Chain Xchange also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane. After Netflix poaches Shonda Rimes, one of the most successful television producers on ABC, a Disney-owned network, Disney decides it can't just sit back and let Netflix keep eating into their market share. Disney CEO Bob Iger decides that Disney is going to launch its own streaming service, Disney+, in 2019. With its strong brand loyalty and vast library of content, Disney seems poised to give Netflix a run for its money. But upending its entire business model is complicated and a messy leadership transition adds even more drama to Disney's attempt to dominate streaming. We're back in Europe for this week's Hackaday podcast, as Elliot Williams is joined by Jenny List. In the news this week is the passing of Ed Smylie, the engineer who devised the famous improvised carbon dioxide filter that saved the Apollo 13 astronauts with duct tape. Closer to home is the announcement of the call for participation for this year's Hackaday Supercon; we know you will have some ideas and projects you'd like to share. Interesting hacks this week include a new Mac Plus motherboard and Doom (just) running on an Atari ST, while a LoRa secure messenger and an astounding open-source Ethernet switch captivated us on the hardware front. We also take a dive into the Mouse programming language, a minimalist stack-based environment from the 1970s. Among the quick hacks are a semiconductor dopant you can safely make at home, and a beautiful Mac Mini based cyberdeck. Finally, we wrap up with our colleague [Maya Posch] making the case for a graceful degradation of web standards, something which is now sadly missing from so much of the online world, and then with the discovery that ChatGPT can make a passable show of emulating a Hackaday scribe. Don't worry folks, we're still reassuringly meat-based.
