Roll out the red carpet and grab a tub of Redenbacher's, because it's time to go to the movies. The Academy Awards are one of the most anticipated cinema celebrations in the world, so naturally, when the show seemed like it was losing its pizzazz, the producers need to find a way to spice things up again. And what better way to do that than to add in lavish production numbers, incongruous sketches, and appearances from some of the greatest stars of yesterday and tomorrow? Rob teaches Ray about the infamous 1989 Oscars, and its impact on the format the ceremony now follows; how Allen Carr's outrageous vision for a star-studded night of glitz and glamour became an overproduced nightmare; why the House of Mouse wasn't too pleased with Mr. Carr's opening number; and how the perception of this particular Oscars not only cratered Carr's career, but might have some redeeming qualities when viewed in the light of recent awards show flops and failures. If you like what we are doing, please support us on Patreon.TEAMRay HebelRobert W. As the Folo by Travel Weekly marks its 3-year anniversary -- it began publishing in early 2020, when the ground was shifting under our feet -- host Rebecca Tobin invites some of the hosts of podcasts by Travel Weekly and sister publication TravelAge West to talk about our journeys, what we've learned through podcasting – and a little bit about our backgrounds and what we want to bring to our listeners. This episode features Jamie Biesiada, a Travel Weekly senior editor, and Emma Weissmann, managing editor of TravelAge West. Jamie and Emma co-host the Trade Secrets podcast, which publishes every other week. Jamie also is the founder of capsule podcast Selling the Mouse, and Emma hosts the monthly podcast Humans of Travel, which relaunches March 13. Plus, be on the lookout for The Last Resort, a new podcast from Travel Weekly by hospitality editor Christina Jelski, coming soon! Today on Ring of Fire! Residents of East Palestine, Ohio are still reeling with the impacts of the recent train derailment and subsequent chemical spill in their town, and relief is virtually nowhere to be found. Politicians are busy trying to blame each other's Party for what happened, but these residents aren't interested in the blame game. Reporter Louis DeAngelis from Status Coup News will tell us what is really on residents' minds right now. Rupert Murdoch admitted in a deposition that he gave Jared Kushner access to President Biden's campaign ads BEFORE they were public - and this could have huge legal ramifications for the media mogul. Ron DeSantis admitted he got married at Disney World, creating an interesting wrinkle in his crusade against the House of Mouse. And Jim Jordan completely humiliated himself during a recent trip to the border - though he'll never admit it. All that, and more, on this episode of Ring of Fire!
