251125PC Der MärchenkönigMensch Mahler am 25.11.2025Ein strahlender Wintertag. Es ist klapperkalt, der Himmel ist blitzeblau, die Bäume sind überzuckert und der Starnberger See liegt da wie ein Spiegel. Die Votivkapelle ragt zwischen den Bäumen auf. In gerader Achse ein kleines Kreuz im See am Ufer, dahinter ein größeres. Was hier geschehen ist, bleibt bis heute ein Rätsel. Ludwig der II, König von Bayern ist hier im See verschwunden. Ist er ertrunken? Wollte er, der wegen Wahnsinn gefangen gehalten wurde, fliehen? Ans andere Ufer, wo Kaiserin Elisabeth, genannt Sissi, im Sommer weilte? Wurde Ludwig, der Märchenkönig im Wahnsinn, ermordet?Man weiß es nicht. An dieser Stelle wurde er mit seinem Leibarzt, dem Psychiatrie-Professor Bernhard Aloys von Gudden in der Nacht des 18. Juni 1886 tot aus dem Starnberger See geborgen. In nächster Nähe steht Schloss Berg, wo Ludwig viele Jahre die Sommermonate verbrachte. Der ganze Starnberger See und die Schlösser in der Gegend sind von König Ludwig geprägt bzw. gebaut worden. Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee und natürlich Neuschwanstein, um nur die wichtigsten zu nennen. Das Leben Ludwigs ist von seiner Liebe zu seiner Cousine Elisabeth, genannt Sissi – was Genaues weiß man nicht – und seiner Schwärmerei für den Komponisten Richard Wagner – das wiess man genau – geprägt.Faszinierend ist es, am Seeufer zu flanieren und dem hervorragenden Audioguide zu lauschen, in denen Zeitzeugen zu Wort kommen. Eine der schillerndsten Figuren der Weltgeschichte ist im Wahnsinn geendet – und hat der Welt zumindest wunderschöne Bauwerke das faszinierende Werk des Musikers Richard Wagners hinterlassen. Denn während sich Augsburg trotz Niederlage an Wagner berauscht, wurde in Leverkusen gleich die ganz große Oper gegeben. Der fliegende Holländer, mit sehr kritischem Tenor. Frei nach dem alten Motto aus Manchester: Man soll ten Hag nicht vor dem Abend loben. Oder so ähnlich. Simon Rolfes, dieses sichtlich gezeichnete Schlussstrichmännchen, hat jedenfalls noch schnell versucht, das alles ins Positive umzudeuten, uns diese rheinische Reißleine als Starthilfekabel für den nächsten Neuanfang zu verkaufen. Eine fantastische Finte. Und wer sich nun fragt, ob wir darauf wirklich reingefallen oder zur Abwechslung doch mal kritisch geblieben sind und wer darüber hinaus auch wissen möchte, was eigentlich in Hamburg los war und wo Maik das Derby gucken musste, dem legen wir ans Herz, es doch bitte wie die Bayern bei Jackson zu machen und bis zum Ende dran zu bleiben. Pourtant, son architecture féerique puise directement son inspiration dans des châteaux bien réels, notamment le château de Neuschwanstein, en Allemagne.Neuschwanstein : le château du roi fouSitué en Bavière, le château de Neuschwanstein est l'œuvre du roi Louis II de Bavière, souvent surnommé le "roi fou". Passionné par les contes et la musique de Wagner, il voulait construire un château qui ressemble à un décor d'opéra. Construit au XIXᵉ siècle, il ne servait pas à des fins défensives mais était conçu comme une œuvre d'art habitée. Avec ses tours élancées, ses fresques féeriques et son décor médiéval idéalisé, il est devenu la principale source d'inspiration du château de la Belle au bois dormant à Disneyland.Louis II ne verra jamais son rêve achevé : il meurt dans des circonstances mystérieuses en 1886, retrouvé noyé dans un lac. Luis II de Baviera 1845-1866) apodado el Loco, fue uno de los monarcas más carismáticos de la Europa del siglo XIX. Adelantado en muchas ideas que hoy denominaríamos ecologistas, inventor, y también excéntrico, uno de sus castillos, el de Neuschwanstein, inspiró a Walt Disney para crear el castillo de Cenicienta hoy logo de la marca Disney. A few months after emperor Henry VII had died in the Tuscan village of Buonconvento and before a successor had been elected, a young man, Ludwig, second son of the duke of Upper Bavaria made his name defeating a much larger Habsburg force. This success could not have come at a more opportune time as it propelled him into contention for the title of King of the Romas and ultimately, emperor. His rule, constantly contested but lasting 33 years would become a major turning point in German, if not European history as it triggered the modern notion of the separation of church and state. I know that I cannot always maintain a completely unbiased position in this podcast, but I rarely succumb to my personal bugbears. But this time I will have to expose you to one of my biggest, and that is the weird romanticization of Ludwig II of Bavaria, the mentally ill recluse who built the three kitsch palaces of Neuschwanstein, Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof in the deluded hope of resurrecting an absolutist regime in a kingdom he had sold to Prussia. Don't get me wrong. The three palaces are worth visiting, if not for their somewhat morbid charm, but what irritates me is that this politically and artistically inconsequential monarch overshadows the more interesting, more complex and more consequential Bavarian rulers, chief amongst them his namesake, Ludwig IV the Bavarian.
