The griffin pulls the chariot or cart up to the denuded tree--the "widowed" tree--and the tree regenerates into a color reminiscent of other moments in PURGATORIO. But which one exactly? We're descending into the murk of mystery with new songs that can't be defined, with allegories that are becoming increasingly opaque, and even with classical references that seem somehow out of place in the overall arch of the glorious parade.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we begin to approach the strange and incomprehensible mysteries that lie at the end of the second canticle of COMEDY.To support this work, consider a one-time donation or a small monthly stipend using this PayPal link right here. Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:24] My English translation of PURGATORIO, Canto XXXII, Lines 49 - 69. If you'd like to read along or continue the conversation with me with a comment on this episode, please find its entry on my website, markscarbrough.com.[03:32] A correction perhaps: "Adam" may have been a murmured reassessment of the misogyny in the text.[04:55] The pole, the chariot, and the tree: complicated translation problems.[07:15] The pole as the cross or perhaps the ties of good human governance.[11:49] The changing seasons as the tree regenerates.[13:26] The ambiguous symbolism of purple.[15:41] The unknown new song, a further mystery in the passage.[18:48] A tense and perhaps off-pitch reference to Ovid.[22:27] A knock against representative art before the apocalyptic vision just ahead.[24:18] Rereading the text: PURGATORIO, Canto XXXII, lines 49 - 69.

There is a bunch of tossing and turning in beds across the land. All in an effort to try to get to sleep. And sleep is the one thing that affects all of us, whether you have an anxiety condition or not. It is a two-fer. Your body needs it for repair and your brain needs it for cleaning and maintenance. So it is really important to make sure you have what you needs to set yourself up for a good night's sleep. Especially if you have anxiety and depression type symptoms. This is an overview of what you need to get to sleep and keep it there for as long as you need it. Resources Mentioned: Australian Center of Clinical Inventions, there is a PDF handout on Sleep Hygiene with 15 tips on how to get a good night's sleep. The U.S. non-profit health organization Kaiser Permanente has a page on why sleep is important and suggest that the only things you should do in bed is sleep and sex. The National Sleep Foundation is an advocacy group for sleep health. They do have a section of their website that talks about the relationship between mental health and sleep. I do need to let you know that there is another website call Sleep Foundation.org. This is a commercial site that reviews mattresses and sleep products. However they have a lot of info about sleep but they also are probably doing affiliate deals to support the website. The site does have factual information about sleep and sleep habits. The Cleveland Clinic has a brief information page on weighted blankets. And Harvard Health Publishing also has a page about weighted blankets with the statement that there isn't enough science research to indicate that they are helpful but people are using them for relief. Emergency Resources The Trevor Project: Provides crisis support specifically for LGBTQ+ youth through phone (1-866-488-7386), text (START to 678-678), and online chat. Available 24/7. They also provide peer support and community. Veterans Crisis Line: Call 988 and press 1, text 838255, or chat online. There are phone lines for those serving overseas. Visit the website to find the current status of the Veteran line and international calling options. National Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 for free, confidential support 24/7. This service operates independently of the 988 service. Users can use text, chat or WhatsApp as a means of contact. This week the COWboys just don't care anymore. Along with some fun and lively conversation on the topic, you''ll also hear some great music from Duke Davis (I Ain't Got a Care), Asleep at the Wheel (I Don't Care if the Sun Don't Shine), Bar J Wranglers (Ride with a Smile), and J Parson (In Care of the Ol' Blue Moon). There is also some great cowboy poetry this week from Larry McWhorter (Harley's Secret). We'll have the ever popular Dick's Pick (Movin' On), Cowpoke Poetry, and a whole bunch of goofin' off too!
Of COURSE they knew about the fraud! And we can prove it! PLUS, former congressman and psychologist, Dr. Tim Murphy, talks to Shaun about the epidemic of dumping mental health patients into the correctional system instead of treating their mental illness in institutions, proving that neglect has been the most expensive option of all. And Troy Anderson, author of the new book Designated Disrupter: Trump and Other Unlikely Agents of Revival, discusses how elite greed has been robbing us blind and how Trump has been confronting corruption and speaking the truth leading to a global reawakening.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This sleep hypnosis is built around the feeling of steady forward movement without effort. Set aboard a warm train traveling through the Swiss Alps in winter, the session supports emotional resilience, inner strength, and grounded peace. Rather than stopping or fixing, rest comes from being gently carried onward... supported by structure, rhythm, and quiet continuity. As the body senses reliable motion and safety, the nervous system softens, the mind releases control, and sleep is free to arrive naturally. Ideal for nights when you want rest that feels calm, strong, and deeply supported.
Sleep isn't optional, and it's not a luxury for “when life slows down.”In this episode of The Thick Thighs Save Lives Podcast, we sit down with neuroscientist and sleep researcher Dr. Chelsie Rohrscheib to unpack what actually happens in your brain and body when sleep gets pushed to the bottom of the priority list.We talk about why chronic exhaustion shows up as anxiety, brain fog, stalled weight loss, mood swings, and burnout, and why so many women are misdiagnosed or completely dismissed when the real issue is sleep quality. This conversation goes far beyond “get more rest.” We break down:How quickly sleep deprivation affects cognition and emotional regulationWhy REM and deep sleep are essential (and why your wearable isn't gospel)The myth of “functioning fine” on 4 hours of sleepHow exercise timing, cortisol, and nutrition directly impact sleepWhy crash dieting and poor sleep sabotage metabolismThe alarming link between sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, cancer risk, and dementiaWhy sleep apnea is wildly underdiagnosed in women and childrenWhat to do if you're afraid of CPAPs (and why delaying treatment is far riskier)Perimenopause, night sweats, insomnia, and what actually helpsIf you've ever told yourself: “This is just how I am now”, or…”I'll sleep when things calm down”, this episode will change how you think about sleep forever.Dr. Chelsie Rohrscheib's Links: Wesper.co and email: chelsie@wesper.co(00:00:00) Introducing Dr. Chelsie Rohrscheib(00:03:13) Why we spend a third of our life asleep and signs to look for(00:07:58) How fast sleep deprivation affects the brain(00:13:30) Genetics and the 4 hr sleep club myth (00:21:10) Wearables and deep sleep vs REM: what actually matters(00:29:12) Exercise timing, cortisol, and insomnia(00:34:45) Nutrition, blood sugar crashes, and waking up starving(00:40:48) Diet culture, sleep loss, and stalled metabolism(00:47:33) Sleep apnea: what's happening in your brain(00:57:29) Tips, tricks and treatment options beyond CPAPs(01:05:22) Rapid-fire sleep myths and advice(01:13:00) Where to find Dr. RohrscheibWant to leave the TTSL Podcast a voicemail? One of the many things that Willie Nelson and his trusty Martin nylon-string, Trigger, have in common is their truly unmistakable voices. And Willie's laid back, behind-the-beat phrasing applies to both. To break it all down, we called on Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel. The two have been friends for a long time, and in 2009 they released the swinging Willie and the Wheel together. Benson tells us about what it's like to work with Willie, what it's like to play Trigger, and when he finally got to put his signature on the latter. THE HORROR ON THE GROUND IN TOKYO Colleague James M. Scott. The raid began just after midnight, catching families asleep. The napalm bombs were designed to puncture roofs and spray fire inside homes, turning the wooden city into kindling. The resulting firestorm created a tidal wave of flame that moved across the city, blocked escape routes, and melted the glass of concrete buildings, killing those sheltering inside. Survivors, including a young girl named Shizuko Nishio, fled through an apocalyptic landscape. Photographer Koyo Ishikawa documented the event, describing the fire as a "surf wave" approaching from the ocean. NUMBER 6 1945 OKINAWA
