Over the long run of the Dragnet radio series, Sgt. Joe Friday (Jack Webb) was paired with four different partners. Each of these cops brought a different energy to the show and had a similar but different dynamic with Friday. We'll hear all four of them in this week's episode. First, Barton Yarborough is Sgt. Ben Romero in "The Big Ben" (originally aired on NBC on March 15, 1951). Then, Barney Phillips plays Sgt. Ed Jacobs in "The Big Almost No-Show" (originally aired on NBC on January 31, 1952). Future Adam-12 star Martin Milner is Officer Bill Lockwood in "The Big Bunco" (originally aired on NBC on April 17, 1952). And Ben Alexander plays Officer Frank Smith - Friday's longest-tenured partner on radio, television, and the big screen - in "The Big False Make" (originally aired on NBC on May 17, 1953).

Episode 36 aired on NBC Radio June 3, 1954. James Stewart stars with Barney Phillips. Bernard Philip Ofner (October 20, 1913 – August 17, 1982), was an American film, television, and radio actor. His most prominent roles include that of Sgt. Ed Jacobs on the 1950s Dragnet television series, appearances in the 1960s on The Twilight Zone, in which he played a Venusian living under cover on Earth in "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?", and a supporting role as actor Fletcher Huff in the short-lived 1970s CBS series, The Betty White Show.
For generations, Englishmen grew food on public land. They sustained their families with these gardens, and with fish and animals they hunted and killed. Then almost overnight, in a new and becoming industrial age, the commons were closed. Katey Castellano says this disconnected people from rural land, forcing them into the city for industrial wages. Plus: There was a time where bowling in the street was considered a top felony. These and more serious crimes were the bread and butter of Victorian newspapers. Ed Jacobs says newspapers have long been a battleground between the elite and the poor. Later in the show: Children's books are much more than pretty pictures and fantasy lands. Deanna Stover says stories like Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland are all about teaching children how to see the world. And: We romanticize London fog about as much as we romanticize chemtrails. But Margaret Konkol says it's all pollution, and it's hard to see our human impact.
