STANDARS SEMANAL.-917.The Very Thought Of You.-VINILOS MITICOS DEL JAZZ.-.Ben Webster - (1953) - King Of The Tenors.-JAZZACTUALIDAD.-.Latino Blanco Quintet - Mark Nightingale-BOREALIS Título: King of the tenors Músico: Webster, Ben Acompañantes: Benny Carter Fecha de Grabación: 1953 Lugar de Grabación: New York Sello Discográfico: Verve Nº de temas: 8 Formato: LP Instrumento: Saxofón tenor Estilo: Swing Nº de Serie: 837431 Año de Edición: 1994 Duración: 39:58 Calificación: 5* /2 Comentario: Un disco majestuoso que recoge todas las virtudes de este magnifico saxofonista. You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To”.

EPISODE 66 - “WHEN CLASSIC FILM'S SUPPORTING ACTORS STEAL THE SHOW” - 12/16/2024 There is nothing quite like watching a film when suddenly a supporting character comes in and walks away with the film. (Think THELMA RITTER, S.Z. SAKALL, or GALE SONDERGAARD in almost every one of their films!) This week we are focusing on some of our favorite supporting charters who come in and snatch that scene right about from under the big stars. From JOANNA BARNES' Gloria Upson declaring, “It was just ghastly!” in “Auntie Mame” to the impassioned monologue about love that BEAH RICHARDS delivers to SPENCER TRACY in “Guess Who's Coming To Dinner,” we take a fun look at these powerful performances that we're still talking about today. #284: Happy 4th of July! It's the last day of our holiday Cheap Fast Eats marathon. Whether you're hosting the BBQ for your family and friends - OR you're just kicking it solo - if you're anything like us, the summer is all about FOOD. So kick back and enjoy some fireworks, or protect your dog from the big spooky boom booms, and do it while noshing on some of the best food L.A. has to offer. Original episode description below:Gab. Brian. Food. You know the drill — Cheap Fast Eats is back! This time, LAist food editor Gab Chabrán is taking HTLA host Brian De Los Santos to some of the best spots west of Sepulveda Blvd in the 818. A century ago Wheat and Lemon were the undisputed kings of LA's San Fernando Valley, a spill of land that existed almost exclusively to be farmed. But in the 1950's, as a post-war Los Angeles was flirting ever so closely with car-culture, the first strip malls of suburbia were born. Today we know these strip malls as the humble homes of the best food the Valley has to offer. Join us to hear about Gab's favorites - and check out his full guide on LAist.com. The Dukes had a bad rap among jazz fans by 1961 . . their previous records had been stereotypical "dixieland" novelties with occasional good playing. These 1961/2 sessions feature the Assuntos (Frank, Fred and Jac) along with Jerry Fuller, Gene Schroeder, Jim Atlas, Charlie Lodice and either Jim Hall or Herb Ellis on guitar. Great mainstream dixieland with a vocal feature for Frank Assunto and a broad repertoire spanning dixieland, marches, contemporary Broadway tunes and a folk number or two. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-clark49/support

Odd pairing - Assunto founded and led the Dukes of Dixieland which was at the height of its popularity in 1962. These recordings were done for Columbia at the same time as sessions by Herb Ellis and His All-Stars. Ellis was touring with the Dukes (with also included Fred Assunto on trombone, Jac Assunto on trombone and banjo, Gene Schroeder on piano, Bob Casey on bass, Charlie Lodice on drums and on two tunes, Edmond Hall guesting on clarinet) and recorded a mainstream session under his own name featuring Buddy Tate, Ray Bryant and Gus Johnson. Roy Eldridge was also supposed to be there, but when he was delayed and missed the first two sessions, Frank Assunto stepped in, providing some of the best work of his career. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-clark49/support
