Jesus made many exciting statements. One very powerful statement was that we have rivers of living water within us as believers. Dr. Self will discuss what that means and how it can impact your life in this show. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 3:17), but the Holy Spirit flows like a river. Understanding this can change your life and have a powerful impact on those around you. John 7:38 "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" Is it possible? Could we become so fixated on working out, diet, looks, and fitness, that our body image becomes a distraction in our pursuit of Christ? If our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 6:19-20), we need to keep the temple in good repair--but can that be carried to unhealthy extremes?Today, the "What about?" Wednesday team is joined by Holli Barnes, a Northwest Christian alumni who has studied nutrition and performed as an athlete. Her studied perspective is intriguing and there's no doubt, this particular Kingdom Culture Conversation will spark some real conversation in your home! What is this Kingdom Culture Conversation podcast tradition, " 'What About?' It has been asked by someone, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?” Many Christians struggle more with their personal prayer life than with any other area of their lives. Jesus told His disciples, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations” (Mark 11:17). Paul preached, “Our God does not dwell in temples made with hands.” We are the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 3:16). Christ lives within us, and our Heavenly Father’s call on each of our lives is to be a house of prayer.
Prayer #1: New Lenses For Us Lord, I am sorry for not always using your lenses when I look at other people. I am sorry for letting the media dictate to me what is normal and beautiful. Forgive me for using the worldly point of view to determine who is and is not useful in society. I break any agreement that I may have made with that point of view and give back any benefits I may have received because of that agreement. I choose today to pick up your lenses, God — the lenses that let me see all humans with your glory on them. Show me what they look like through your eyes. What do you see that I have missed? I choose to camp out with you, God, in this place of hope, knowing that there is more than my eyes can see. Thank you that every human is fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. Amen. Prayer #2: Declaration Over the Prayer Recipient You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps 139:14). You were designed by God to carry the Holy Spirit (I Cor 6:19). You are a gift to the world and the world is a better place because you are here (1 Cor 12:27). When you come into the room you bring a positive atmosphere with you (Matt 5:14-16). God’s thoughts toward you are as numerous as the grains of sand in the ocean, and they are all good (Ps 139:17-18). He has never left you or forsaken you (Heb 13:5). You are beautiful inside and out, made in God’s image (Gen 1:27). He dances over you with singing because he is excited that you are here (Zeph 3:17). You are made for connection with God and humans right now (Gal 4:6). The whole earth is waiting for you to know your worth so that it can be realized by all (Rom 8:19). Today you know and honor the gifts God has made you to be, and they will be made accessible to the world around you. You have made us all incredibly rich! Thank you!
This talk considers what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit: I Cor. 12:12-13; Ephesians 5:18 We believe in one baptism with many fillings ... continuous encounters of receiving grace-filled empowerment from the Holy Spirit.
