As we continue to espouse the benefits of the Family Care Learning library on online parenting courses and resources, today we sit down for a Kingdom Culture Conversation with Jennie Dalcour, a clinical supervisor for Christian Family Care in Phoenix, Arizona. In the first of a two-part conversation, Jennie speaks to the benefits of EMDR, the growing risks associated with emotionally unavailable parents, and the hope that stems from committing to Christian worldview in the midst of a culture mired with anxiety. The Family Care Learning library is available free-of-charge to Northwest Christian families that have completed the NCS Parent University: Foundations of Biblical Worldview online course that is required of NCS parents as part of the re-enrollment process. For more information on the NCS Parent University's Foundations of a Biblical Worldview course, please follow this link.To investigate the Family Care Learning library, start here.To learn more about Christian Family Care, please click here. Tim Reed has had an impact. With over forty years of personal and professional investment in youth ministry and youth minister's Reed's influence in the state and beyond is considerable. Stuart Delony is unabashedly snarky. In fact, you could call it his trademark. He's unapologetic. He's direct. He uses profanity. And, he is calling out the inconsistencies within Evangelical Christianity and the American church, distinctions between what Jesus called His church to do and what we actually do.He's also a former pastor from within Evangelical Christian culture. That's awkward. But, is he correct? And, if he is correct, is he going about it in the right way?Today's Kingdom Culture Conversation is going to be very interesting!Stuart Delony founded his blog and podcast--Snarky Faith--and it has grown to have a national reach. His tagline is "Radio for the Spiritually Disenfranchised" and he's been prominently featured within the documentary, "In God we Trump"--an expose on the American church and its relationship with President Donald Trump. With trademark snarky-ness as a key element of his communication tact, he can be seen as abrasive but the awkward part of it is, there are times where he may be right.Or, is he? Today, you'll hear from Stuart directly and get the chance to decide. To learn more about Stuart Delony and Snarky Faith, please visit SnarkyFaith.com.To read the specific blog post that we discuss within the episode, "Culture Wars Distract from Jesus' Call", please follow this link. Video games are huge.Approximately 3.26 billion people worldwide play video games. 89.5% of video game sales happen in the digital world. In 2022, gamers in the US spent $55.5 billion on games. But, prior to the advent of Bible X, it's been a domain largely avoided by Christendom. Why?But now, through one of the most successful video game development Kickstarters, Bible X is bringing the Gospel to the digital realm of video games.Today, we talk with Eunice Lenk, a community relations and marketing advocate for Bible X which is located in Norway. In 2024, Bible X is preparing to launch "Gate Zero", a first-player adventure game that takes players into the future (the year 2072AD) in order to take them back to first century Israel. The hype is real. Talk about awkward moments! Scott MacIntyre is formerly an American Idol hero contest - his amazing story of persisting through blindness to compete on one of the world's biggest stages is beyond inspiring! So, he's performing in chapel and as his performance ends, he opens the floor for questions. Could there have been a more awkward first question? The student asks, "What do the blind see when they dream?"The dialog that followed between student and Scott was jaw-dropping. As it turns out, the question wasn't awkward. Rather, it was a springboard for a beautiful conversation... Lifeway Research, the marketing and data arm of Lifeway Publishers, has just published what they have identified as the top trends - both good and bad - in ministry within 2025.The list is very interesting but it becomes even more interesting when we consider it through the eyes of one of the valley's most dominant youth pastors, John Spooner from Pure Heart Church. John, who married Samantha, a NCS alum, is spearheading both Junior High and Senior High at a church that works exceptionally hard to speak to the needs of those experiencing brokenness. For more info on the Lifeway survey and the trends, follow this link.To get more information on the amazing youth ministry at Pure Heart Church, please follow this link. Former New Zealand and Samoa league rep Frank Pritchard thinks the international game would benefit from the next NRL expansion team being a blend of Maori and Pacific Islanders. Mana Pasifika is banking on fan support and playing depth to spearhead its bid to secure an NRL licence for an expanded 20-team comp in 2032. Pritchard says the recent rise of Tonga, Samoa and Fiji in the international pecking order provides a pathway for Polynesians playing league. "Community engagement" might be bit of an understatement.Sean and Theresa lead the charge at St. Vincent de Paul - one of the nation's premiere ministries working to minister to the poor and homeless - in terms of pulling volunteers and donors into the mission. Their job titles each involve the words "community engagement".But, those simple and benign words belie the fact that their joint impact within the issue perplexing most of our nation might be unparalleled. But, how did they wind up on this journey and within these positions?Their stories are stirring...and may very well stir the hearts of any aspiring high school students that are also seeking God's direction...To learn more about the work of St. Vincent de Paul, please follow this link. The City of Joy Christian School in Rwanda is an anomaly. Set in rural Africa, within a country ravaged by genocide, and serving students with little or no resources, you would not expect what is, in fact, happening. Students are thriving, learning, and growing. Scores on national tests are not just exceeding the average, they are running in the top 5% of all Rwandan students. So what is happening? Why is Rwanda's Secretary of Education visiting the campus and investigating their outstanding outcomes? As you will hear in today's Kingdom Culture Conversation with Dawna Underwood and Teri Beckner, the answer is simple. I'm nearly certain that today's Kingdom Culture Conversation is the first conversation we have published that includes the word "sexiness".Uh-oh? Woops? Did we miss an edit? No. In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, Pure Heart's Dondi Rodriguez has an epic mic drop moment in which he powerfully and memorably illustrates a Christian's call to reach their neighbor. He also makes two or three powerful points regarding Psalm 23. Again, mic dropping moments. So, where does the "sexiness" come in?You're going to have to listen to find out... Well, it happened. The second season of Northwest Christian's student-led, podcast-based audio drama "I Witness" went viral. Featured by Apple podcasts as part of the lead-off podcast promotional page for podcasts in the "Arts" genre, I Witness spanned the globe and became one of the top 50 Arts podcasts on Apple podcasts. The heart and mind behind I Witness is Chris Zimmerman, also the founder of Red Five Media. Northwest Christian School's "Build Here, Build There" campus improvement campaign is unlike most any other capital campaign. To call Nick Reynoso's testimony "powerful" would be an understatement to be sure. But today, we have the amazing opportunity to hear how a soldier in the U.S. Army experienced the power of the Gospel, saw it transform his life, and then dove head first into ministry - literally ministry in the trenches. As a chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve, Nick has the opportunity to meet soldiers where they are at and to convey that same power that he experienced to them...To learn more about Nick Reynosa and his ministry, please follow this link. Homecoming. Was. Epic.Maybe too epic? After a spirited Spirit Week chock full of hijinks and shenanigans, the Northwest Christian community wheeled into the day of Homecoming and blew the doors off. It started at 7:00am with Big Boys on Campus, our monthly men's prayer breakfast, continued with a parade, an assembly, a carnival, an alumni dinner, and ultimately a sound beating of St. Mary's High School's football team. But, for all that happened that day, the morning's prayer breakfast speaker may have been the singular moment in which the power and purpose of Northwest Christian was most ably presented. Jared Nightingale, class of 2008, spoke and gave potent testimony to the enduring legacy of Christian education within his life. In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, we hear as Jared walks us through his testimony, his marriage, his growing family, and his career. In so doing, we're reminded not just of the potency of Christian education but what it means and what it looks like to thrive within the Biblical design for living that the Lord has ordained. This dude is in it to win it.Marko Susnjara is leading the youth ministry at Phoenix Bible Church, located on the central corridor right in the middle of Phoenix. And, his ministry has traction. This is not a ministry with a country club mindset. It's a ministry where the students are real and they are working through the real issues that our meat-grinder culture is putting them through. It's a ministry where the full power of the Gospel is on display every week.In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, you're going to get the view from the front lines of real youth ministry from a dynamic young man with courage, perspective, experience beyond his years, and wisdom. Jay Rudolph is a renaissance man. What is a "renaissance man"? Websters states, in its inimitable and characteristic fashion, "a person with many talents or areas of knowledge."And, yes, that definition certainly applies to Jay. A nationally syndicated radio host whose program, "The Plumbline", originates in Iowa but airs nationally, Jay knows apologetics, politics, theology, science, business...and, yes, goats. So, while this particular Kingdom Culture Conversation starts in one of the oddest directions in the three year history of the podcast, it meanders into an area of culture and theology you won't soon forget! It's like that moment at the end of Iron Man 1 when Tony Stark says, "I am Iron Man." The Redeemed Zoomer has gone viral! We originally published today's episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations - an interview with the mysterious alter ego known as "Redeemed Zoomer" - on May 30, 2024 because so many Northwest Christian were into RZ's YouTube channel. But, between then and now, the Redeemed Zoomer has gone viral! His identity is known but, more to the point, his heart for students and youth culture is all the more apparent! So, today, we're rebroadcasting that original interview so that our listeners can hear again that the Lord can literally use ANYTHING - including the video game sensation Minecraft - to reach people and grow the Kingdom. The original show notes follow...He has a secret identity, an alter ego of sorts. And, he's rather like a theological super hero. No kidding.Known only as the "Redeemed Zoomer", he's working to redeem mainline protestant churches from the inside, using Youtube and Minecraft as his primary tools. For the time being, he's not revealing his identity but instead is known only as his screen name, his Youtube handle. But with one of his videos having garnered over 7 million views, it's clear that his message is resonating with a very large and diverse audience around the world. Using Minecraft play as the visual that draws younger viewers in, as he plays the game, he explains Biblical worldview, Kingdom culture. and Biblical orthodoxy. In the process, he's inviting a younger generation of Christ followers not to leave the traditional, mainline denominations but to lay hold of the authority of God's word and begin working to redeem them.By the way, he's only twenty-years-old. Wow. This is going to be a very interesting episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations! To experience the Redeemed Zoomer's Youtube channel, click here. 1 in 22 Nigerian women will pass away during childbirth.1 in 12 Nigerian babies pass away during birth. 55 out of 1,000 Nigerian babies will die in the first week of life. An additional 100 will pass in their first year of life. Then, another 100 die before reaching five-years of age. And, apparently, we're good with it.Today's American "headlines" have reporters tripping over themselves to find out the latest stupidity pertaining to Taylor Swift. Not a single mention of an African nation where babies are dying at a rate comparable only to an active war zone. Why is it happening? Because while we're paying zero attention, American corporations are predatorily advancing profiteering: two-weeks of baby formula costs more than a month of the average Nigerian's annual salary. And, ignorance and animistic darkness compel Nigerians along a path leading towards destruction. Without a declaration of war against it or a single shot fired within it, the nation of Nigeria is suffering a defeat that will ultimately destroy it.So, here's the deal. Mandolyn Crotts needs your money. One of far, far too few folks that have woken up to the entirely preventable genocide unfolding in Nigeria, she is desperately working to turn the tide. And, she needs cash. Your cash. Quick. In today's unbelievable Kingdom Culture Conversation, you'll meet Mandolyn, hear her story, and recognize that right now--here and today--we can do something simple and soon to support an effort that has the potential to stop an ongoing holocaust. To learn about about Carry Them Ministries, the ministry of Mandolyn Crotts and four brave Nigerian women, follow this link.To watch the documentary that exposes the tragedy and opens the door to possible triumph, click here. Most important, give money today right here. There are too few churches like CityView. You cannot rub shoulders with a CityViewer without getting a clear sense of their sense of calling and their commitment to ministry. This is clearly a church on mission. It's like everyone in the community is driving hard, working with a profound sense of purpose, to reflect Christ and to carry the Gospel into the community. But, the most shocking part of it all? The leadership is young and they are working overtime--literally and figuratively--to invest in young men and women, raising up a generation of Christ followers who are wholeheartedly and earnestly engaging in making a difference.Today, G and Geoff attempt to crack their pastoral code and try to understand how Jeremiah's leadership can attract young people, encourage them to follow Christ, and then lead them towards sacrificial investment in engaging the hurting world around them.To learn more about CityView Church, follow this link.To learn about Pastor Jeremiah Semmler, click here. And, if you are not honestly and truly invested in a church community that is making a difference in your home and inspiring you to engage your community, it is time. Youthful enthusiasm. Passion for Christ and students. Inexperience. A recipe for disaster?Maybe. Maybe not. Today, in a memorable Kingdom Culture Conversation, the inimitable Jayse Meyer joins Geoff and G as they recount their youthful forays into youth ministry: the wins, the losses, and the lessons learned.Jayse serves as the youth pastor at Desert Breeze Community Church and, if you're not already plugged into a youth ministry and anywhere near Phoenix, AZ, you need to connect with Desert Breeze! It would certainly be convenient if there were, but there is no recipe for successful spiritual formation in the life of a young person. To borrow a piece of parable from Jesus, as parents and educators we scatter the seed and pray that the heart's soil is such that, by the grace and mercy of the Holy Spirit, it yields fruit. That's why, if recipe is the correct analogy (it's not, by the way), prayer is the secret sauce. But, nevertheless, when it all comes together, it is certainly glorious.Today, we have the opportunity to revel in a bit of that: three remarkable Northwest Christian Seniors share their stories from the summer of 2024. In each case, they gave more of themselves to mission and spiritual formation than, at one point, they may have known that they had. And, the fruit of that, as heard today in their reflections of the summer past and their dreams of God's plans ahead, is very, very exciting to observe. On Friday, August 16th, Phoenix Bible lead pastor Tim Birdwell kicked off the monthly Big Boys on Campus prayer breakfast by breaking down the Northwest Christian annual spiritual emphasis theme verse, John 8:12: "Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"The BBOC devotion itself was, as per Tim's inimitable and inspiring norm, amazing. But, there were people in the room that morning that new, for Tim and his family, following Christ's plan and persisting in a path illuminated by light, has not been easy. So, following BBOC, G and Geoff sit with Tim, as well as George Brown (Phoenix Bible's Director of College and Connections and Geoff's son/NCS alumni, Class of 2016) and work through the special significance of John 8:12 for Tim.For more information regarding Phoenix Bible Church, please follow this link.To learn more about Tim Birdwell, please click here.To get to know George Brown, follow this link.
