For Star Wars collectors 2019 was a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good included the most detailed Star Wars vehicle/playset ever in the form of Jabba's Sail Barge. Plus the Black Series 6-inch line continued strong with great offerings from Clone Wars Armor Obi-Wan Kenobi to The Mandalorian, plus several Rise of Skywalker figures. Mixed in with that was some bad: The limited-articulation 3.75" line that had been a mainstay for years was cancelled. The Vintage Collection filled that niche, but lacked in new figures and in-store availability. The new 5-inch Galaxy of Adventures line didn't click with many collectors. Then in the ugly was the limited availability of Retro Collection figures at Target--especially the multi-colored Darth Vader. And what, no Baby Yoda toys? In this new Star Wars Action News podcast the team comes together to reflect on what the last year brought--and what they hope the new year can deliver!

It's been 4 years since the TOPPS Star Wars Card Trader app was unleashed upon the world. Since it's the reason we're here as a podcast, we give it its due. Rhett literally phones in the episode, accidentally doubling as our "from the WWII front lines" correspondent. We discuss cards that have been under represented in the app:- "Capes of Calrissian": when will we get this set?- Lack of baby Ewok cards: only seen in classic art that we could find.- Abandonment of Lott Dod base cards- Poggle rainbow check-in (spoiler: not going well)Other Star Wars things we're liking:- The two-foot Super Star Destroyer expansion for the Star Wars: Armada miniatures game- Hasbro's massive Jabba's Sail Barge- Michael shares how he was moved to tears by the new novel, Queen's Shadow. We conjecture the collective noun for a group of handmaiden ("tale").We also discover there are a lot of characters in the Star Wars universe that have double-g in their names.
Lately, it’s all about Jabba’s Sail Barge! Through HasLab, Hasbro has released what may very well be the largest, most detailed, most sought-after, and perhaps even the greatest toy in the history of the modern Star Wars toy line. In this episode, I debut the first in the ongoing, occasional series called “The Best Toys Ever”. Each of these episodes revolves around one incredible toy that left a mark on toy history. Chris from BanthaSkull.com joins me to discuss Jabba’s Sail Barge and share our thoughts on this ambitious item. I also share an email from listener Paul, who got to see the set of the Dune Sea and Jabba’s Sail Barge at Buttercup Valley in 1982, where he even got to chat with Mark Hamill! Here's a real mixed bag of an episode, with an overarching theme of "Conventions"... Cujo is bursting with tales to tell of his time at the Long Beach Comic Expo where he had, amongst other things, a run-in with Aubrey Sitterson! What went down? Only one way to find out! Also, Rob tables a discussion of cute vinyl Joes and Cobra's with creepy green eyes; Steve considers supporting HasLab in their attempts to crowdfund Jabba's Sail Barge (if for no other reason than to make Boba Fett die like a bitch); there is talk of the Python Patrol versus Slaughter's Marauders Convention set... and finally: are there any truly seaworthy boats in the A Real American Hero toyline? GI Joburg playtest a few firm favourites while shooting a YouTube video and the results may shock and amaze! And after all that madness, if you still love us and want to see us at JoeCon this year, check out our Joe Fund Me on GoFundMe! We're gonna make it! This is awesome!!! https://www.gofundme.com/gijoburg-joecon2018
We review some of the big STAR WARS reveals at the 2018 NY Toy Fair that have fans buzzing. Collecting expert Dan Curto joins us to break down all the news, including new merchandise from SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY and the ambitious Jabba's Sail Barge from Hasbro's new crowd-sourcing initiative, Haslab. We also talk critically about Star Wars collectibles on the retail level, what works, and what doesn't. That familiar scream you hear on TV and in movies, The Wilhelm Scream, was an originally inside joke from 1977's STAR WARS that has since spread like wildfire. Now comes word that it has been "retired" by Skywalker Sound, thus we will not be hearing it in STAR WARS again. We investigate this news and look back at the history of The WIlhelm Scream via vintage RFR highlights featuring STAR WARS sound masters Matthew Wood and Ben Burtt. Plus, J.J. gives an Episode IX update, we look forward to the home video release of THE LAST JEDI, Lando Calrissian pickup lines from Billy Mac and more!
