We're sharing a preview of a new audiobook, Douglas Adams: The Ends of the Earth, which celebrates the wit and wisdom of the legendary science fiction author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Douglas Adams was someone who thought deeply about the biggest problems in the world, from the internet, to artificial intelligence, to space exploration, politics, and conservation—he was a sharp critic and a profoundly disruptive thinker of the way we do things. Written and narrated by Arvind Ethan David, Adams' former protégé, this one-of-a-kind audiobook includes rare archival material from the Adams Estate, interviews with Adams' personal friends like Griff Rhys Jones and David Baddiel, and reenactments of his work to form an immersive journey through the mind of one of the most visionary writers of our time. Get Douglas Adams: The Ends of the Earth now at Audible, Spotify, pushkin.fm/audiobooks, or wherever audiobooks are sold. Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices
When Arvind Ethan David was a student, he decided to adapt the Douglas Adams novel Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency into a play. Arvind didn't imagine that Adams would show up to see the play (which he did), nor that Arvind would grow up to become a caretaker of Adams' legacy. Arvind just released an audiobook called Douglas Adams: The Ends of The Earth, produced by Pushkin Industries. It features unheard archival audio of Douglas Adams and interviews with friends and colleagues of the late author who ponder what Adams was trying to tell us, and whether the great humorist always meant what he said. I talk with Arvind about the origin of the audiobook, and we hear an excerpt on why Adams publicly rejected the label of being a science fiction author -- even though he had created a sci-fi cultural phenomenon with The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. A new, enhanced availability calendar allows guests to view all available reservations for a location. Guests can also search a date range to see all available reservations at all locations, and guests can sort based on preference, like specific time frames, and nearby locations. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/disney-app-updates-make-booking-dining-reservations-easier/ As of July 1st, a popular attraction will no longer offer Lightning Lane. Pirates of the Caribbean is dropping support for the line reservation system, which should improve standby wait times, and the sprawl caused by the longer, slower moving standby line throughout New Orleans Square. – https://www.micechat.com/418015-disneyland-news-pirates-unplugged-leotas-legacy-bubble-bonanza/ Weeklyteers who want to attend this year's Oogie Boogie Bash still have a chance! Many of the party dates are still available as of the recording of this podcast. Weeklyteers in our Discord chat reported the process to get tickets this year was much easier than in the past. – https://www.micechat.com/418015-disneyland-news-pirates-unplugged-leotas-legacy-bubble-bonanza/ Last week, we spoke about Kim Irvine retiring from Disney. During her retirement party it was revealed that Kim and her mother, Leota Toombs, would be getting a window on Main Street. Getting a window on Main Street is one of the highest honors at Disneyland. The most recent new window on Main Street was for the Make-A-Wish foundation back in 2023. – https://www.micechat.com/418015-disneyland-news-pirates-unplugged-leotas-legacy-bubble-bonanza/ A couple of attractions have returned this week. Pixie Hollow, which has been behind construction walls for a long time has finally reopened with pixie meet and greets. The area is largely unchanged from the previous version, just freshened up. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room also reopened this week, with the courtyard opening before the attraction. The tiki gods have all been refreshed, with Tangaroa being completely replaced with higher limbs. Inside, the attraction feels brighter, with new LED lightning, but some of the elements of the attraction are still not animated. – https://www.micechat.com/418015-disneyland-news-pirates-unplugged-leotas-legacy-bubble-bonanza/ A new collaboration is coming to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. Disney has partnered with Coca-Cola to offer 30 specialty cans and bottles of Coke products for purchase, with 3 being only available at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Star Wars fans can collect their favorite icons, with shows and scenes from the movies, and TV. Fans can then scan cans, bottles, or street advertisements to unlock immersive AR experiences. You can also record a message of hope, inspiration, or encouragement, like a transmission that can be shared as a hologram-style video with your community. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/new-coca-cola-collaboration-celebrates-star-wars-fans/ If you would like your very own tiki bird at home, the Garner Holt Foundation has an option for you. They have launched a Kickstarter campaign to provide animatronic songbird mini kits so Disney fans can make them at home. You can customize the bird, and program it to talk or sing. – https://www.micechat.com/417829-garner-holt-diy-animatronic-bird-kit/ Disney merchandise from Japan and China is unlike anything we have in the domestic parks. DisneyStore.com now has some of the merchandise from those locations online to purchase. Urupocha-chan plush from Japan, and plush releases from China and Japan are available now.

There's no way around this: all time banger of an episode, maybe Miguel's finest appearance yet. I'm pretty sure I cut all the bad parts so if this makes you mad at any of us that's due to a problem with your heart. The twisted throuple discusses wine using the lens of Coruscant, the urban planet at the center of the Galaxy. Weirdly enough, this actually works really well. The LA Galaxy traveled to Colorado on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, to face the Rapids, and received a two-hour weather delay and ultimately, another loss, as an uninspired display led to the Galaxy losing to their hosts 2-0. We'll look at what went wrong against the Rapids, if outside factors like the delay are an excuse, and what the belief level of the players is following another loss. We'll also look ahead to the Galaxy's weekend trip to San Jose for the 104th edition of the Cali Clasico, a match that on paper, looks like it may be out of reach for LA. Can the Galaxy lift themselves out of the fog of loss and bring back three points from their Northern rivals on Saturday?

In this episode of SpaceTime, we uncover significant advancements in our understanding of the universe and ongoing developments in space exploration.Astronomers Find the Universe's Missing MatterA groundbreaking study reveals that the universe's elusive normal matter is concealed within hot intergalactic gas filaments. This discovery, detailed in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics, identifies a massive filament of gas, ten times the mass of the Milky Way, connecting four galaxy clusters. Utilizing the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton and JAXA's Suzaku X-ray space telescopes, researchers have successfully characterized this filament, providing crucial insights into the cosmic web's structure and supporting existing models of the universe.Concerns Grow Over Leaks Aboard the International Space StationFresh concerns regarding leaks aboard the International Space Station have led to delays in the SpaceX Axiom Spaceflight 4 mission. NASA is closely monitoring cabin pressure in the Russian segment of the station, where ongoing structural issues have been identified. Despite recent repairs, the situation remains a top safety priority as astronauts prepare for their upcoming mission.European Space Agency's Mars Rover ProgressThe European Space Agency's ExoMars rover, Rosalind Franklin, is back on track to land on Mars in 2028, seven years later than originally planned. Today on the 5: For our shared movie selection this week, Lando (somewhat) selected Visitors From The Arkana Galaxy, a 1981 Czech-Croatian science-fiction comedy. We didn't know what to expect, and I think it's fair to say neither of us had seen anything quite like this film before. It's a movie that is consistently riveting even as it goes further and further off the rails.
Highlights:- ISPACE's Lunar Landers Challenges: In this episode, we delve into the challenges faced by ISPACE as their second lunar lander mission, Resilience, reportedly crashed due to a malfunctioning laser rangefinder. Australia is known for its unusual animal life, from koalas to kangaroos. But once upon a time, the Australian landscape had even weirder fauna, like Palorchestes azael, a marsupial with immense claws and a small trunk. There was Protemnodon mamkurra, a massive, slow-moving, kangaroo-like creature. And Zygomaturus trilobus, a wombat the size of a hippo. They're all extinct now, and researchers are trying to figure out why. Host Flora Lichtman talks with researcher Carli Peters about ZooMS, a technique that allows researchers to use collagen from ancient bone fragments to identify species, offering clues to those ancient extinction events. Peters recently described using the technique in the journal Frontiers in Mammal Science. And, a recent study in the journal Nature Astronomy hints that our own Milky Way galaxy may not be doomed to collide with Andromeda after all. Till Sawala, an astrophysicist at the University of Helsinki, joins Flora to talk about the finding.Guests: Dr. Carli Peters is a postdoctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and the Evolution of Human Behavior at the University of Algarve in Faro, Portugal.Dr. Till Sawala is an astrophysicist at the University of Helsinki.Transcripts for each episode are available within 1-3 days at sciencefriday.com. SpaceTime with Stuart Gary | Astronomy, Space & Science News
In this episode of SpaceTime, we explore some of the most recent and intriguing developments in space exploration and cosmic phenomena.Starship's Latest Test Flight Ends in ExplosionSpaceX faces another setback as its 10th Starship test flight ended in a massive explosion at the Massey test stand in Boca Chica, Texas. The incident occurred just minutes before a planned static fire test of the upper stage. We discuss the details of the explosion, including early indications of a cryogenic methane leak and the implications for SpaceX's ambitious goals of interplanetary transport.A Cosmic Anomaly and Its Frightening Implications for EarthA newly discovered cosmic anomaly challenges our understanding of galaxy evolution. A distant spiral galaxy, housing a supermassive black hole billions of times the mass of the Sun, is emitting colossal radio jets stretching over 6 million light years. This finding raises alarming questions about the potential future of our own Milky Way and the dangers posed by similar jets originating from Sagittarius A, our galaxy's supermassive black hole. We delve into the study's findings and their implications for life on Earth.New Insights into Neutron StarsA groundbreaking study has provided new insights into the birth masses of neutron stars, revealing that they typically form with a mass around 1.3 times that of our Sun. Using advanced modeling techniques, researchers analyzed a sample of neutron stars in binary systems to understand their formation history better. This research opens up new avenues for interpreting gravitational wave detections and understanding the lifecycle of massive stars.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Societyhttps://academic.oup.com/mnrasNature Astronomyhttps://www.nature.com/natureastronomy/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-space-astronomy--2458531/support.00:00 This is Space Time Series 28, Episode 75 for broadcast on 23 June 202501:00 Starship's latest test flight ends in explosion12:15 A cosmic anomaly and its frightening implications for Earth22:30 New insights into neutron stars30:00 Science report: Cannabis use linked to increased cardiovascular disease risk

That might make you ask why we're having a show. And that's a good question. For now, we'll just say the internet didn't want to work, Teams wouldn't connect, and the SD Card got full about 20 minutes into the show. Still, we move on! What one thing has you most disappointed in the 2025 season? What players have made you question your faith in the beautiful game, and what loss has pulled your hair out? On today's show, we'll talk about why the Lakers being sold has a link to the Galaxy and why the Galaxy could be next. Plus, which jerseys are selling the best across the league? We've got 60 minutes of Galaxy talk when all anyone wants to discuss is how no one is going to Gold Cup matches. Let's talk! -- Corner of the Galaxy is kicking off Season 17, just a few shows past number 1,200! And we can't wait to show you everything we've got in store for 2025! This is just a reminder that we go live twice a week — Monday and Thursday at 8 PM on YouTube—and that you can find us conveniently anywhere you get your podcasts (Apple, Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, GooglePlay, etc.).
