Sculptor and installation artist Marianne Lettieri creates intricate, meditative work from salvaged and domestic materials. In this episode, she shares her journey from marketing to art, and how she has centered her practice around intention, discernment, and clarity—rather than urgency or trends. She talks with host Alyson Stanfield about how she defines success, the importance of showing up in the studio (even if it's just to sweep the floor), and why research, ritual, and creative constraint are essential to her process. HIGHLIGHTS 01:50 – Marianne's career shift from PR to full-time artist 03:54 – Why Marianne is drawn to historical artifacts and “slow” art 08:19 – Defining success: critical acclaim vs. financial success 13:14 – Income sources: sales, commissions, and artist estates 17:57 – How she tracks ideas and builds inventory systems 22:02 – How she's using only what she already has 24:56 – Making over 100 collages from studio leftovers 26:54 – A rejection story: the San Francisco dump residency 32:10 – Building community through art and faith 38:45 – How location (Granbury, TX) shapes her art 46:42 – Where to find Marianne + Alyson's closing takeaway
Baby-faced teen Giovanni Macedo is desperate to find belonging in one of LA's most predatory gangs, the Columbia Lil Cycos—so desperate that he agrees to kill an undocumented Mexican street vendor. The vendor, Francisco Clemente, had been refusing to give in to the gang's shakedown demands. But Giovanni botches the hit, accidentally killing a newborn instead. The overlords who rule the Lil Cycos from a Supermax prison 1,000 miles away must be placated and Giovanni is lured across the border where, in turn, the gang botches his killing. And so, incredibly, Giovanni rises from the dead, determined to both seek redemption for his unforgivable crime and take down the gang who drove him to do it.With The Rent Collectors, Jesse Katz has built a teeth clenching and breathless narrative that explicates the difficult and proud lives of undocumented black market workers who are being extorted by the gangs and fined by the city of LA—in other words, exploited by two sets of rent collectors. This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we are still down a Scot, as he is still unwell. But that will not slow him down in contributing to this ep! Before we get into the main segments, we chat about Ben & Frank's latest Plastic Addiction, in the form of Transformers Blokees! Prior to chatting about the Superman Film itself, we focus on the Toy likeness compared to what the actor actually looks like! With a little Jurassic World banter in between. Then, without another moment to spare, we get right into the James Gunn driven film itself! We chat towards our Cinema experiences and start off with a non-spoiler discussion; before we head into a chat about the whole Film itself! Giving it our typical DVG rating out of 19 too. Then changing gears, we introduce a New segment - named: Variant Schmariant! We each pick two variants of a pre-existing character (in toy form) that just doesn't need to exist. We unearth some quite silly versions of characters that had a legitimate Toy Release; that clearly logic was not a concern at all!! Plus we tie a nice bow around the proposed Nick-Names for both Frank & Scot. Enjoy!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Thoughtful artists often hesitate to share their work publicly—not because they're lazy or unclear, but because they don't want to contribute to the “noise” online. In this solo episode, host Alyson Stanfield unpacks that fear and explain why it's often a mask for perfectionism. You'll hear why your content doesn't need to be perfect, polished, or viral—it just needs to be true. She also shares mindset shifts to help you move from performance to presence, broadcasting to connection, and perfection to permission. Whether you're struggling to post, over-editing everything, or just trying to trust your voice again, this episode is here to remind you: you're not the noise. You're the signal. Rudy Samsel has created something special with Guys with Rides - a dealer-free marketplace where classic car enthusiasts can connect without the high fees and uneven playing field that plague traditional auction sites. As he explains to the In Wheel Time crew, his platform was born from frustration with how private sellers are treated at established auctions. What makes this concept compelling is its focus on creating meaningful connections between sellers who often have emotional attachments to their vehicles and buyers who will truly appreciate them. Samsel shares touching stories about helping families find proper homes for inherited classics, including daughters selling their late father's cherished '62 Thunderbird and a rare 1976 Cadillac pickup that found its way to Switzerland through his site. The pricing structure is revolutionary compared to industry standards - just $1 to list and $49 more if sold, with buyer fees capped at 1% of purchase price (maximum $500). This approach particularly benefits sellers of mid-range classics who are disproportionately hurt by percentage-based fees elsewhere. Sellers can choose between traditional auctions with minimum starting bids or fixed-price listings with the option for buyers to make offers.Though he calls himself "the David in an industry of Goliaths" with just a handful of listings at any time (compared to hundreds on larger platforms), this allows for a truly personalized approach. Samsel personally helps sellers showcase their vehicles, sometimes traveling to film restoration work for his YouTube channel. He even provides no-cost assistance to buyers seeking specific vehicles, creating a concierge-like experience missing from larger marketplaces.Ready to experience a more personal way to buy or sell a classic car? Hold on to your ba-ZOOM-bas, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for Part 5 of The Collectors, a limited series in which The Horror Avengers reveal their deepest, darkest secret love affairs with their various collections — especially their personal movie collections! In this fifth installment, Count Mackula interviews The Southern Gentleman, GregaMortis — the Head “Creepture” of Land of the Creeps. In an intimate and wide-ranging interview, Mackula chats with GregaMortis to journey through the decades of his collecting passion, starting with his childhood days of toyline preferences and fondly remembered visits to the legendary Kmart in Elkins, West Virginia. Greg shares stories of his earliest collecting obsessions, providing a glimpse into the roots of a lifelong pursuit that would be both challenged and reborn. Listeners will hear the dramatic and heartfelt account of Greg's personal “Burning” — a pivotal event in the mid-1990s when, under pressure from his former religious community, he was compelled to destroy much of his cherished media collection. But like any great collector with a resilient spirit, GregaMortis rose from those ashes, beginning around 2001, to rebuild a vault of cinema and memorabilia that now spans VHS tapes, laser discs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and modern 4Ks! Victory! GregaMortis has been keeping Horror alive ever since! You also get to hear about Greg's enthusiasm for collecting vintage TV Guides from the 1970s and '80s. He explains his philosophy on upgrading films across evolving formats — and what he gains (or loses) in the process. And of course, no collection is without its tragedies. Greg recounts “The Great Fall” — the unfortunate toppling of his homemade movie shelves. Episode 151 offers more than just a peek into a movie-lover's media treasures; it's a tribute to the emotional ties we form with the things we love, the resilience it takes to reclaim joy, and the communal bond that collectors like Greg and Mack share across generations with listeners like you! Don't miss this badass edition of “The Collectors Series” with the unforgettable GregaMortis! Listen, you'll love it! Also, in case you missed them, here are the first three installments of this series: Ep. 088: The Collectors – Part 1 and Ep. 094: The Collectors – Part 2 and Ep. 098: The Collectors – Part 3 and Ep. 102: The Collectors – Part 4. Hasbro's hoping their frosty new HasLab, the G.I. Joe Snow Cat, doesn't put their crowdfunding hot streak on ice. A retired police captain turned artist, Jennifer Steck realized she didn't have to wait for opportunities to come to her—she could create them. Seeing a gap in what was available for artists to sell their work, Jennifer founded Artburst Studios, an online gallery that's part pop-up show and part community hub for artists. She had zero experience running a gallery, but that didn't stop her. Armed with curiosity, a clear vision, and plenty of determination, Jennifer (at the time of this recording) has helped over 80 artists sell more than $174,000 of art in just a few years. In this episode, she shares how a simple idea (and a lot of spreadsheets!) grew into a platform connecting artists with buyers and each other. In this conversation, host Alyson Stanfield talks with Jennifer about: Her “aha” moment as a new artist that inspired an artist-centered online gallery. The key qualities Jennifer looks for (like clarity, consistency, and an active practice) when reviewing an artist's online presence—and what might make her pass. Why community and collaboration are baked into the Artburst model, and how they benefit every artist involved. Strategies for overcoming artists' reluctance to promote their work and engage their audiences. How fear, perfectionism, and overthinking can sabotage art sales—and ways to avoid these common pitfalls. ⌛️ HIGHLIGHTS 00:35 Meet Jennifer Steck – From police captain to artist entrepreneur. 06:00 The “aha” moment – How a Facebook art auction sparked the idea for Artburst Studios. 10:30 Running a virtual art show – Artburst's short pop-up exhibitions and the importance of artists actively promoting their work. 13:45 Emphasizing community – Encouraging artists to support one another and provide great experiences for their buyers. 16:00 Choosing the right artists – What Jennifer looks for online (and the red flags that make her say “no thanks”). 22:10 Personal touch in sales – How Artburst handles sales and gets artists directly connected with their buyers. 26:30 Why artists resist marketing – Understanding the stigma around self-promotion and how Jennifer helps artists move past it. 35:00 Conquering common mindset blocks – Tackling fear of exposure, perfectionism, and “analysis paralysis” that can hold artists back. 40:00 Looking ahead – Jennifer's plans to launch the Artburst Boutique for smaller, more frequent art shows. 44:00 Final encouragement – An open invitation for artists to get involved, and why showing up (like attending shows) is so important before seeking opportunities.
"My Wife is Going to Kill Me" Podcast – Four adult toy collectors navigate the chaos their hobby brings to their lives. They cover toy collecting, movies, comics, and all things pop culture—delivering it all with their signature humor (which can get a little adult at times).
Today's episode is all about play—not just with our kids, but in our own lives too. We're diving into the idea that each of us has a play personality—a way we're naturally wired to have fun, unwind, and come alive. And just like you might not parent or process like your spouse, you might not play like them either. Or like your kids. So today we're walking through 8 play archetypes and reflecting on how knowing your own (or your kid's) can bring more joy, less pressure, and better connection in everyday life. If you love what we do and want more behind-the-scenes fun, bonus episodes, and exclusive content, join the walk in love. Podcast Membership today!
