The plot of Cecilia revolves around the heroine, Cecilia Beverley, whose inheritance from her uncle comes with the stipulation that she find a husband who will accept her name. This proves impossible, and she gives up her fortune to marry for love.Jane Austen referred to Cecilia and other novels in her novel, Northanger Abbey: “'And what are you reading, Miss — ?' 'Oh! It is only a novel!' replies the young lady, while she lays down her book with affected indifference, or momentary shame. 'It is only Cecilia, or Camilla, or Belinda'; or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best–chosen language. The title of Austen's Pride and Prejudice may have been inspired by a passage at the end of Cecilia: “remember: if to pride and prejudice you owe your miseries, so wonderfully is good and evil balanced, that to pride and prejudice you will also owe their termination.” (Adapted from Wikipedia.) This is a collaborative reading.Episode IX to XVI will be published on Jan 20th.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The on-the-spot pitching of what could have been 2019's "Hellboy" is genuinely awesome and surprising.  "The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are trying a new hybrid game/pitch this week in honor of the astounding "Hellboy" reboot, so the guys will pitch a new version of a Hellboy movie using random plot elements decided by dice rolls every so often. It's amazing that it's not only cohesive, and awesome, but easily better than the film in theaters.  Available on iTunes and Spotify Episode 235 includes: -Star Wars is back with a TV show, a new trailer for Episode IX, a new title, and more... of the old. -"Missing Link" is the least Laika film yet but still charming. -Nate declares "Dragged Across Concrete" is one of the best films of 2019. -Ben is flabbergasted by the "Hellboy" reboot. -This Week's Pitch -- Switch the Pitch (Hellboy)! -The guys roll a dice to select new plot additions (New Character/Flashback/Plot Twist/Action Scene/Death Scene/Sex Scene) and pitch, on the spot, a new "Hellboy" and it is awesome. This lasts a half hour! -This Week's Game -- So Shalit Be! -The guys conclude with another rousing edition of impersonating film critic/social deviant Gene Shalit and coming up with increasingly absurd blurbs for films."

Acomi and Turk182 decide the best way to celebrate May 4th is by watching a movie that will make you hate May 4th and question the Star Wars universe. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Episode IX. What is there to say about a sequel or trilogy that didn't need to exist? Characters with inordinate potential that is never fully realized, or quickly forgotten. Development that is copy-paste or dropped. Cameos of characters from prior movies used as a gimmick to get the viewer interested, or give credence that this is a good film. Events that are never explained, and should just be accepted. Join Acomi and Turk as they try valiantly to hold their kelvin degree boiling bile in check and not rage at the screen. So incomprehensible it makes the Humanoid look like a true sequel. Let's Watch! Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. The original (and arguably, the best) "conclusion" to the Skywalker saga (lookin' at you, Episode IX!), 1983's near-perfect Star Wars episode VI (that's "6" to anyone unfamiliar with Roman numerals in this day and age) was a pretty satisfying wrap-up to the cliffhanger ending of The Empire Strikes Back.  After a 3 year wait, we finally got to see the fate of our heroes and were introduced to some new, dreaded characters to boo at (Jabba, The Emperor, Ewoks). While somewhat lacking in imagination (another Death Star?  Really?), and peddling in soft-core space porn (Slave Leia), Jedi ultimately delivered the goods and remains an essential part of our favorite space adventure franchise.  With or without "Yub Nub".  Join me, and I will complete your training.  This podcast is a blast.  Or maybe...it's a trap!

When a group of zippers hijack the Network 23 signal one too many times, Bryce is charged with finding the miscreants so severe penalties can be brought against them. But already knowing the truth, he redirects the location trace to Blank Reg's RV. He assumes the televised judicial system will soon drop the charges as it is clear Reg lacks the ability to zip the network, but a more obscure law makes Reg look guiltier than sin. Will Max and Edison Carter convince Bryce to come clean or will Reg end up reduced to discrete atoms? Justin falls in love with the "twenty minutes into the future" tagline. Erik gets into the nitty-gritty of how Max came to be in reality and in the fiction of the series. Justin defends the cast of Super Mario Bros. He also picks fights with several public figures. Erik revels in the presence of W. Morgan Sheppard. The pair debate the "too much" elements of Twin Peaks's second season. Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Episode IX get re-litigated -- well, a little bit, anyway. The "Max Headroom Incident" gets discussed and the ghost of F. Lee Bailey haunts the Tread Perilously virtual studio.

he Disney-produced Star Wars sequels had a great start with the smash box-office success of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens in 2015, then the wildly divisive follow-up The Last Jedi - written and directed by Rian Johnson - a couple year later. However, it all crashed and burned with universally maligned The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, directed again by TFA's J.J. Abrams. But did it have to be that way? As many fans know, filmmaker Colin Trevorrow was hired to co-write and direct STAR WARS EPISODE 9 at the same time the Abrams and Johnson were hired to direct their respective films. However, obviously things didn't go to plan. So what did Trevorrow's Episode IX look like? Would it have been an improvement on Abrams' failure? Welcome to Streaming Star Wars, featuring myself Pete Fletzer and my cohost Nick Mielke from fellow ATGcast show, Podcast of the Whills. On Friday nights, Nick and I take to our YouTube channel to bring you a lively conversation about all things Star Wars and, while there is a series running on Disney Plus, we will be making that the focus of the show. But this week, we had the amazing opportunity to talk to an Emmy-award winning comedy writer who has worked on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert - Greg Iwinski. Greg also played a huge role in bringing Colbert's memorable monologue and interview at Celebration Chicago for the Episode IX panel. Let's get into that "Train Heist" cue with Dr. Frank Lehman! In this episode, we discuss the sheer density of the Solo score, modulation as an effective tool to generate intensity (Frank counted 21 key changes in 5 minutes), Powell's dramatic usage of driving percussion, and the orchestration details that feel like "Williams's unique fingerprints but with a Powell filter."
