"Hasbro doesn't want to make 3.75-inch figures because there is no profit." "Hasbro is lying about Vintage Series sales numbers. They're really higher than Black Series ones." Fans, frustrated by the lack of new figures released in that line, start "storytelling" to come up with reasons why the number of new Star Wars figures in the classic scale is so small while the 6-inch Black Series line gets so many. For Star Wars collectors 2019 was a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good included the most detailed Star Wars vehicle/playset ever in the form of Jabba's Sail Barge. Plus the Black Series 6-inch line continued strong with great offerings from Clone Wars Armor Obi-Wan Kenobi to The Mandalorian, plus several Rise of Skywalker figures. Mixed in with that was some bad: The limited-articulation 3.75" line that had been a mainstay for years was cancelled. The Vintage Collection filled that niche, but lacked in new figures and in-store availability. The new 5-inch Galaxy of Adventures line didn't click with many collectors. Then in the ugly was the limited availability of Retro Collection figures at Target--especially the multi-colored Darth Vader. And what, no Baby Yoda toys? All of 2019 feels like a slow build-up to the biggest cinematic event of the year: Star Wars Episode IX in December. Over Labor Day weekend a group of Star Wars collectors from across the globe gathered in the Washington DC area for an International Collector's Event--or ICE. Items were sold and traded, collections were put on display, and friends swapped stories. All while traveling through Virginia and Maryland visiting a dozen Star Wars collections!
