Jazz singer Samara Joy is just 24 years old. She has more than 1.3mn social media followers and three Grammys. Most notably, she won 2023's best new artist award, only the second jazz musician ever to join that coveted club. Today, Lilah speaks with Samara about her path: discovering jazz, her thought process as she performs, and how she finds new takes on compositions by greats such as Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus. Stephanie Jeannot has been seething with music ever since she was a little girl. When sound comes tumbling out her mouth, you feel the energy of a woman in control of the mood, nuance and lyric. She has been compared to Ledisi, Jill Scott, Ella Fitzgerald, Alicia Keys and Sarah Vaughan but has her own style in her own right. Jeannot became an international artist when completing a 10-city music tour in Russia in 2016 when she had the opportunity to sing at the Wilson Jazz Festival in Kransodar, at the Kazan Philharmonic Hall, and at the 2017 Jazz at the Lake Festival in Minsk and at the 2017 Arkhangelsk Jazz Festival.
