Professional indemnity insurance is a fickle market. Conveyancing firms are once again navigating a market that remains challenging, nuanced, and increasingly shaped by risk culture rather than raw numbers.Renewal season is the backdrop to this latest Today's Conveyancer Podcast discussion with Miller Insurance account managers Marianne McWilliams and Phil Limb who lift the lid on what insurers are really looking for and why firms need to rethink how they present themselves.Appetite for conveyancing work has improved say McWilliams and Limb, but insurers are scrutinising firms more closely than ever, particularly around expertise, file supervision and risk management.Limb reiterates the point many insurers have made in recent years; dabbling is dangerous. Firms undertaking only a handful of transactions must demonstrate robust systems, specialist case management and clear referral points. “If you are doing a low amount of conveyancing, it's about proving the expertise… and that you've got referral points at certain critical points” .Technology is now central to that story. Specialist case management systems, automated checkpoints and emerging AI tools can all strengthen a firm's risk profile but only when used intelligently. McWilliams cautions that AI requires rigorous due diligence and human oversight: “if you ask the wrong prompt… you're not going to get the right answer” .Insurers are also watching emerging risks closely, from crypto‑related funds to cyber incidents. The takeaway is clear: firms must articulate their risk culture, not just their compliance. Insurers want clarity, candour and evidence of control. Conveyancers who can demonstrate that story will be the ones securing the best outcomes when it comes round to renewal. The Today's Conveyancer podcast can be found on your preferred podcast provider and also at www.todaysconveyancer.co.uk. Today on the podcast, I am chatting to my friend and voicenote partner in crime Nikki McWilliams. I always find it interesting when people run multiple different brands, and I love to hear how they manage it, how they do it all, and how it all fits together. Nikki not only has a solid personal brand, but she also runs two distinct online shops: one selling her famous biscuit-inspired homewares and another dedicated to stationery. In this episode, we delve into how she keeps it all clear in her head, how she juggles the workload, and how she maintains consistency across different businesses. We also discuss the massive shift in social media marketing—from the polished "flat lay" era to the rise of "scrappy" reels—and why having multiple "squirrel pots" of income is the key to feeling secure as a self-employed creative.   Key Takeaways: The "Squirrel Pot" Strategy: Nikki treats her different businesses and income streams as "squirrel pots." Having multiple streams provides security because when one area (like luxury cushions) ebbs, another (like affordable stationery) might flow Distinct Branding for Distinct Audiences: While both brands sit under her name, Nikki uses different visual vibes and colour palettes to separate them—one is luxury and gift-focused, while the other leans into nostalgia and necessity . Scrappy Content Wins: We discuss the mindset shift required to move away from perfectly polished content. Surprisingly, the posts that take the least time to create (like filming in pyjamas on a phone) often perform the best The Art of the Creative Pitch: Nikki shares a brilliant story about how she won a PR trip on a cruise by pitching with a physical, hand-made passport instead of just a standard email. Agility is a Superpower: As a small business owner, you don't have to stick to a plan if it isn't working. Nikki explains why she is currently leaning more into stickers and stationery because that is what is selling right now.   Episode Highlights: 01:00 – The origins of the Biscuit Shop (2010) and the rise of the Nikki Supply Store (2017) via the bullet journaling trend 07:00 – How Nikki balances a personal brand with two product-based businesses 15:00 – Why self-employment can actually feel more secure than a traditional job in the current economy 18:00 – How to pitch to brands and get paid properly for content creation 25:00 – The struggle of pivoting from high-production content to "scrappy" authentic video 37:00 – Nikki's future goals: YouTube monetization and designing a sticker book   About The Guest: Nikki McWilliams is a designer and small business owner based in Scotland. She is the founder of Nikki McWilliams, known for her iconic biscuit-themed cushions, and Nikki's Supply Store, a go-to shop for bullet journaling and stationery supplies. Banks dramatically underestimate how their customers share financial data, and most of it happens through insecure screen scraping that creates fraud vulnerabilities and slows performance. Shane McWilliams, Head of Retail Digital Banking at FIS, breaks down the three critical challenges separating thriving institutions from those being left behind: serving small and medium businesses as a central financial hub, enabling secure data sharing through APIs, and moving beyond product-centric thinking to build sticky customer relationships. McWilliams reveals that when he asks bank executives to guess what percentage of their customers are sharing data with third parties, "they're not even close" to reality. He explains how modern SMBs expect their banks to integrate everything from cash flow monitoring to accounting systems, why personalization needs to go beyond UX optimization, and how banks that orient around customer needs rather than products will win in today's competitive environment.

However, he also warns of potential headwinds, including stretched valuations, market concentration, and the risk of overinvestment in A.I. McWilliams suggests investors should maintain a balanced approach, considering lower-risk, higher-quality stocks and potentially adding treasuries to their portfolios as a hedge against potential volatility.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. In this episode, I'm joined by Janice McWilliams, licensed therapist, spiritual director, and author of Restore My Soul: Reimagining Self-Care for a Sustainable Life. Janice offers a deeply grounded and compassionate approach to self-care — one modeled after the life of Jesus. Together, we talk about what it means to care for your inner world in real time, moment by moment. True self-care, as Janice describes, isn't about stepping away from our lives. It's about learning to show up to our lives with more awareness and kindness. We explore how to: Cultivate awareness and compassion toward your thoughts Live well your emotions Develop rhythms that restore your soul Live a fulfilling life Thought-provoking quotes: “When we think of Psalm 23, we often picture rest after exhaustion, but I believe Jesus wants us to live before we collapse. He invites us to green pastures not just to recover, but to remain restored.” - Janice McWilliams “It takes us about 45 to 90 seconds to experience an emotion from beginning to end if we're not trying to stop it or repress it. So many people are afraid that if they start feeling something, they'll have to hide away for a week. But really, it's the avoidance that drains us.” - Janice McWilliams “I want all of us to become so familiar with the voice of the Good Shepherd that we can distinguish it from every other voice in our minds. The Good Shepherd's voice carries faith, hope, love, and peace—it doesn't speak through worry, rumination, or despair. Those patterns might sound urgent or logical, but they aren't the language of Jesus. His voice leads us toward gentleness and life, never toward self-condemnation or fear.” - Janice McWilliams Check out Janice's book Restore My Soul Explore Janice's free resources Get Faith & Feeling's weekly resource email Watch this episode on YouTube Grab a copy of my book Stop Saying I'm Fine Connect with me on my website Find me on Instagram @__taylorjoy__ Key words: Janice McWilliams, exhaustion, burnout, emotions, faith, vulnerability, emotional regulation, mental health, emotional health, personal growth, rest, spiritual formation, community, mindfulness, self-compassion, curiosity, emotional safety, self care, soul care, spiritual direction, therapy

In this episode, Angelo talks with Dr. Nancy McWilliams about her new book "Psychoanalytic Supervision" (2022). Drawing from over 40 years of leading supervision groups, Dr. McWilliams shares her revolutionary approach to tracking therapeutic progress through ten "psychological vital signs"—a hopeful reframe that asks not just "Are they less depressed?" but "Are they more alive? More capable of love, work, and play?" Their rich conversation explores what makes group supervision uniquely powerful, how parallel process operates across multiple therapeutic relationships, and the art of creating safety where supervisees can present their most challenging cases. They also discuss the development of an "internal supervisor" and what it means to shift from symptom-focused thinking to tracking deeper capacities for human flourishing. Finally, Dr. McWilliams reflects on nearly five decades practicing psychotherapy and shares what gives her the most hope about the future of therapeutic work.
