Today we continue our discussion on the 4th Trimester, postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum anxiety and we actually get into the factual discussions for each of these conditions and what separates them from just "the baby blues." As usual, we get distracted by ourselves and promote Garet's baby to the Owner of Poop Acre Manor - a title that we're pretty sure she's earned at this point because damn that kid can let it fly when she wants to! Perry Bradford was the epitome of a hustling musician in the 1910's and 20's - largely responsible for bringing the first black singer (Mamie Smith) into the studio to record blues, he also had a series of recordings under his own name, featuring his own compositions and singing. Featured are Louis Armstrong, Louis Metcalf, Bubber Miley, Gus Aiken, Bud Aiken, Jimmy Harrison, Don Redman, Buster Bailey, Bob Fuller, Garvin Bushell, Willie "The Lion" Smith and James P. Johnson among others. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-clark49/support
The Harlem Hamfats recorded for Decca from 1936-40 or so, making several hundred sides under their own name as well as backing up singers and other entertainers. Consisting of the New Orleans trumpeter Herb Morand, Chicago clarinetist Odell Rand, pianist Horace Malcolm, brothers Charlie and Joe McCoy on guitar and vocals (and Charlie on mandolin), John Lindsay on bass and Pearlis Williams on drums, the group combined swing, dixieland and blues in an energetic way that kept their records on jukeboxes for a decade after they stopped recording. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/john-clark49/support

Street of Dreams. The near eradication of Soul Musics dominance was nearly achieved as recording artists and their outdated melodies found contracts, Record distributions and an audience for their crafts dwindled as many sought the High octane sounds which many rode along to fuelled by an Un-natural high! Un abrazo JAZZ RECUERDO ANIVERSARIO.- Dexter Gordon-1963 Our Man in Paris.

Chicago based. Major acts on the label in the 1950s included blues singers Jimmy Reed, Memphis Slim, and John Lee Hooker, and rhythm and blues vocal groups the Spaniels, the Dells, and the El Dorados. The 1960s saw the label become a major soul label with Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler, Dee Clark, and Betty Everett having hit singles on both the pop and R&B charts. Vee-Jay was also the first label to nationally issue a record by the Pips (through a master purchase from the tiny Huntom label of Atlanta), who became Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1962 when they moved to Fury Records. I play the original Vee-Jay Gladys Knight Every Beat of My Heart.
