There is a new "bait and switch" issue in the cleaning industry that is taking hold of some companies, at times creeping in unexpectedly. In this episode of Straight Talk!, Jim Pemberton, the president of Pembertons in McKeesport, PA, discusses his observations and how critical it is that business owners and managers recognize the signs there companies may be engaging in a different type of bait and switch practice. Pemberton offers suggestions that, if implemented, will benefit both the cleaning company and its clients.

His career includes 18 years as an independent property restoration contractor, consultant to restorative drying during catastrophes and large loss drying coordination, expert witness, Director of Education for North America's largest disaster restoration contracting organization, and now the author of one of the industry's leading technical resource book on the subject of structural restorative drying - Leadership in Restorative Drying. He is currently an IICRC Approved instructor of WRT, ASD and CDS certificate courses. Larsen is also a RIA instructor of the restoration industry's advanced certification credentials: Water Loss Specialist (WLS) and Certified Restorer (CR). He serves as Chairman for RIA approved Instructors, Trainers and Subject Matter Experts, a sub-committee of RIA's Education Committee. Larsen presently serves as Senior Technical Director for the International Dry Standard Organization (IDSO) and Director of Education for the Restoration Leadership Institute (RLI) and lead consultant for the Restoration Expert Panel (REP). "The Summit" is a week long event that includes courses on mold, indoor environmental quality, water damage restoration plus this years main event the IEQ, Mold and Disaster Restoration Conference. The conference featured speakers such as Dr. Jeff Siegel, Dr. Joe Spurgeon, Kevin Kennedy, Carl Grimes, Dr. Patricia Cafaro, Eric Shapiro, Luke Gard, Richard Rue, Nate Adams, Dr. Eva King, Dr. Ralph Moon, Cliff Zlotnik, Pete Consigli, Ed Ranieri, Jim Pemberton, Marc Selvitelli and Dave Drinnard who arranged for a hands on demo of the Echo blaster. We also continued our tradition of doing research projects. This years projects were on how containments affect IEQ parameters and measurement of allergen load before and after specific response actions. This week on IAQ Radio Radio Joe, Pete Consigli, Ed Ranieri and Nate Adams will discuss what was learned and what practitioners, researchers and building owners need to know to keep buildings healthy and sustainable.
