Welcome to Jake's Happy Nostalgia Show, the podcast where nostalgia comes alive! This week, we're joined by the legendary songwriting duo Michael and Patty Silversher! Known for crafting some of the most iconic and beloved tunes in children's television, the Silvershers have been the musical minds behind countless favorites from Disney and The Jim Henson Company. From writing the unforgettable theme songs for Adventures of the Gummi Bears and TaleSpin to penning songs for Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, DuckTales, and the Winnie the Pooh franchise, their Disney legacy speaks (or sings!) for itself. Michael also wrote and arranged most of the classic Mickey Mouse Splashdance album. With The Jim Henson Company, they brought their talents to projects like Muppet Classic Theater, Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree, Animal Jam, Sid the Science Kid, Dinosaur Train, and Pajanimals, as well as the heartfelt ballad "Together Forever" from The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. We dive into their creative process, the stories behind your favorite childhood songs, and what it's like to write music that spans generations.

The use of this stimulant (and its generics), known by street names like A-Train, Addy, Amps, Christmas Trees, Co-Pilots, Lid Poppers, Smarties, Study Buddies, and Study Skittles has exploded from 35.5 million prescriptions in 2019 to 45 million in 2022. But these numbers only scratch the surface. A dangerous black market has emerged, flooding streets with counterfeit pills indistinguishable from the real thing. Users, often unaware, risk their lives with every dose. Even legitimate prescriptions carry significant dangers. The DEA warns we're on the brink of our next drug crisis. With 5-6 million Americans using Adderall without proper diagnosis and one in four teens in some schools abusing prescription stimulants, we're watching a new generation spiral into un-prescribed/unneeded use and addiction. Researching this case turned up other very interesting side stories: German prisoners-of-war, Native American attacks, and even the Wizard of Oz.

“the Christmas Tree is a tree of fable,/A phoenix in evergreen”Cecil Day Lewis tackles the leave-taking of Christmas and the emotional upheaval in can work in the hearts of kids from 1 to 92. Happy reading (and don't take down that tree yet!)Lewis, (born April 27, 1904, Ballintubbert, County Leix, Ire.—died May 22, 1972, Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire, Eng.) was one of the leading British poets of the 1930s; he then turned from poetry of left-wing political statement to an individual lyricism expressed in more traditional forms. The son of a clergyman, Day-Lewis was educated at the University of Oxford and taught school until 1935. His Transitional Poem (1929) had already attracted attention, and in the 1930s he was closely associated with W.H. Auden (whose style influenced his own) and other poets who sought a left-wing political solution to the ills of the day. Typical of his views at that time is the verse sequence The Magnetic Mountain (1933) and the critical study A Hope for Poetry(1934).Day-Lewis was Clark lecturer at the University of Cambridge in 1946; his lectures there were published as The Poetic Image (1947). In 1952 he published his verse translation of Virgil's Aeneid, which was commissioned by the BBC. He also translated Virgil's Georgics (1940) and Eclogues (1963). He was professor of poetry at Oxford from 1951 to 1956. The Buried Day (1960), his autobiography, discusses his acceptance and later rejection of communism. Collected Poemsappeared in 1954. Later volumes of verse include The Room and Other Poems (1965) and The Whispering Roots (1970). The Complete Poems of C. Day-Lewis was published in 1992.At his death he was poet laureate, having succeeded John Masefield in 1968. Under the pseudonym of Nicholas Blake he also wrote detective novels, including Minute for Murder (1948) and Whisper in the Gloom (1954).-bio via Britannica Get full access to The Daily Poem Podcast at dailypoempod.substack.com/subscribe

The frequency and vibration of knowledge can move us in many ways. Let's review some yellow paper notes from the war college. Fatalism results when nothing can stop what's coming. Becoming familiar with the ancient books of Greece and China. This is a war like no other. The Chinese laws of Moses. Ever heard of them? The West has always been the focus of world history. Borders change just like solutions. The Athenians are what modern democrats pretend to be. Spartans were the bad ass conservatives. Women were highly regarded as generals. Spartan infrastructure and order were challenged by sanctuary cities. First destroy your enemies from within. Who funded the wars of the Greek empire? The phrase all roads lead to Rome, was manufactured. The Divine Farmer and the beginning of traditional Chinese medicine. Only following a righteous path can lead to life's real success. Where did the Greeks get their bronze? The Augusts, the Emperors and the woman goddess. World wide floods seemed to have been a problem. The Christmas Tree nebula. Heavy gravity thoughts. Oh, and we're going to war. The blurred lines are purposeful. We will be nerding out in 2025. Real knowledge in God is the only path to true freedom. Surrender, and your inner truth will have been chosen from Him.

In this holiday episode we celebrate the season with humor, heartfelt memories, and a touch of glamour. Pol' reflects on his December 27th birthday overshadowed by Christmas and growing up celebrating Armenian Christmas on January 6th. He shares nostalgic tales of leaving cookies and vodka for Santa and navigating cultural shifts after moving to the U.S. Patrik recounts his German-inspired traditions, including his mother's elaborate holiday decorations, like ornaments suspended from the ceiling, and upside down Christmas tress while Pol' reveals his memorable Bulgari-themed Christmas tree.  The *Runway Rundown* segment adds festive flair as they critique celebrity holiday fashion: Beyoncé and Blue Ivy stun in matching gold, though Blue Ivy's mature look sparks debate. Grace VanderWaal earns praise for her chic transformation. Heidi Klum's pearl-white gown misses the mark, drawing playful jabs. Jordyn Woods dazzles in sequins and fur, while Chloë Sevigny's lace dress gets labeled a fashion fail. The conversation weaves personal anecdotes with humor, exploring traditions like Armenian feasts, German holiday treats, and the creative ways families adapt customs across generations. The episode ends with gratitude to listeners, a teaser for Pol's celebrity coffee readings, and heartfelt holiday wishes.  Full of laughs, warmth, and festive spirit, this episode is a delightful celebration of the season.  Subscribe to our audio: linktr.ee/undressedpod Follow Pol Atteu:  Instagram: @polatteu  Tiktok: @polatteu  Twitter: @polatteu  www.polatteu.com Follow Patrik Simpson:  Instagram: @patriksimpson  Tiktok: @patriksimpsonbh www.patriksimpson.com Follow SnowWhite90210: Instagram: @snowwhite90210 Twitter: @SnowWhite9010 www.snowwhite90210.com Watch Season 4 of Gown and Out In Beverly Hills on Prime Video.  www.gownandoutinbeverlyhills.com #UndressedPodcast  Armenian Coffee Reading: https://polatteu.com/armenian-coffee-cup-read Learn more about your ad choices. Merry Christmas, Honestly listeners! We hope you've been enjoying the parties, the spirit of charity, the lights, the tree at Rockefeller Center, the schmaltzy movies, and of course, the infectious Christmas music everywhere you turn. But did you know that the Americans who wrote nearly all of the Christmas classics were . . . Jewish? Indeed, many of the writers of your favorite Christmas jingles were the children of parents who had fled Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe during the great wave of immigration between 1880 and 1920. Sammy Cahn, the son of Galician Jewish immigrants, wrote the words to “Let it Snow!” and was known as Frank Sinatra's personal lyricist. There is also Mel Torme, the singer-songwriter responsible for composing the timeless “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.” His father fled Belarus for America in the early 20th century. Frank Loesser, a titan of Broadway and Hollywood musicals, wrote the slightly naughty “Baby, It's Cold Outside.” He was born into a middle-class Jewish family, his father having left Germany in the 1890s to avoid serving in the Kaiser's military. Johnny Marks, the man who gave us “Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer,” “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” and “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree”—yes, he was also one of the chosens. Then there's the greatest American composer of them all, Irving Berlin. His “White Christmas” is one of the biggest-selling singles in the history of American music. Berlin's earliest memory was of watching his family's home burn to the ground in a pogrom as his family fled Siberia for Belarus before emigrating to NYC in 1893. Today, Free Press columnist Eli Lake explores why and how it was that American Jews helped create the sound of American Christmas. We hope you enjoy this delightful and surprising jaunt through musical history. Happy holidays! *** This show is proudly sponsored by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). Tonight, we'll read a short story by Charles Dickens called “A Christmas Tree”, from 1850. Snoozecast first aired this story back in the year 2020. It was only ten years prior to this story's publication that in 1840 the German concept of a Christmas tree was introduced to England. Before then, nobody in England had placed a Christmas tree in their home.Just as Dicken's “A Christmas Carol” isn't actually a song, “A Christmas Tree” is barely a story and the tree is merely a launching off point for a series of dreamy impressions from the author's mind.  — read by 'M' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! 1946 - Brockton, Massachusetts. On the morning of December 28, 1946, the Brockton, Massachusetts police arrived at a crime scene that would soon captivate the region. The press called it the Christmas Tree Murder-the brutal killing of 35-year-old Rene Cote. Rene had no shortage of enemies. Among them was a so-called friend now sitting in jail, charged with his murder. Yet, investigators felt they were missing key pieces of the story. Rene's wife, Bertha Surprise Cote, whose beauty had captured the attention of the public, kept changing her account of what happened that night. Was she protecting a man she secretly loved from the death penalty? Or was she hiding something far more sinister? This is part two of the “Christmas Tree” murder of Rene Cote, a case that led to one of the most sensational trials in Massachusetts history. How good are you at predicting how things will turn out in your life? How often have you said, “If only I get this thing, I'll be happy...” or “If I lose my job, it will be a disaster…” . Generally, these kinds of predictions are wrong. Things often turn out much differently than we think they will. This episode begins by looking at why that happens. https://drhappy.com.au/2010/11/14/happiness-is-balancing-the-past-the-present-and-the-future/ Did you know that Nat King Cole's “The Christmas Song” was written on a hot summer day? Or that Brenda Lee was only 13 when she recorded “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree”? These are just a few of the things you will discover as you listen to my guest Annie Zaleski. She is an editor and music journalist who is author of the book This Is Christmas, Song by Song: The Stories Behind 100 Holiday Hits (https://amzn.to/3ZomPBn) Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels requires us to develop new sources of energy. While solar, wind, lithium batteries and other energy sources are often described as “clean” energy, they are not as clean as you might think. These alternative energies require metals and those metals must be mined and/or recycled – both of which which cause serious damage to the environment that you don't often hear talked about. Joining me to explain why this should be a concern to every one is Vince Beiser. He is an award-winning journalist who has written for Wired, Harper's, The Atlantic, and the New York Times and he is author of the book, Power Metal: The Race for the Resources That Will Shape the Future (https://amzn.to/3Vqw42v). People used to blink more than they do now. You see, when you watch screens like your computer monitor, TV or cellphone, you tend not to blink as much. And there are consequences to that.
