Mirror therapy has been used with amputees for many years. This scene from a 2009 episode of Dr House demonstrates the effects of mirror therapy for amputees. In this episode of TWiH. Dr. Clas Linnman, assistant professor at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital discusses his patent-pending auditory mirror therapy device for tinnitus patents. He had a whale of a career, didn't he. Like many of my guests, Paul Linnman got his foot in the door of Portland television with hard work on the ground floor. In Paul's case, he was a student at PSU, sports editor at the campus newspaper, while editing film at KATU at night. It was there, in the turbulent 60s, that he realized the power of journalism and the truth in storytelling. And man does he have stories-- the best in this podcast has nothing to do with a whale and explosive overkill. It's driving piano virtuoso, Van Cliburn, to and from a concert in Eugene- with City Commissioner Mildred Schwab. And then there is the good news/bad news when you get replaced by Oprah. Paul has done it all in Portland TV, print, and radio. And I learned we have at least this in common-- we were both cussed out by a newspaper columnist, and not the same one.

A., Reich, D. S., El Fakhri, G., Herscovitch, P., Normandin, M., Brugarolas, P. Abstract: Demyelination causes slowed or failed neuronal conduction and is a driver of disability in multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases. Currently, the gold standard for imaging demyelination is MRI, but despite its high spatial resolution and sensitivity to demyelinated lesions, it remains challenging to obtain specific and quantitative measures of demyelination. To understand the contribution of demyelination in different diseases and to assess the efficacy of myelin-repair therapies, it is critical to develop new in vivo imaging tools sensitive to changes induced by demyelination. Upon demyelination, axonal K+ channels, normally located underneath the myelin sheath, become exposed and increase in expression, causing impaired conduction. Here, we investigate the properties of the K+ channel PET tracer [18F]3F4AP in primates and its sensitivity to a focal brain injury that occurred three years prior to imaging. [18F]3F4AP exhibited favorable properties for brain imaging including high brain penetration, high metabolic stability, high plasma availability, high reproducibility, high specificity, and fast kinetics. [18F]3F4AP showed preferential binding in areas of low myelin content as well as in the previously injured area. Sensitivity of [18F]3F4AP for the focal brain injury was higher than [18F]FDG, [11C]PiB and [11C]PBR28, and compared favorably to currently used MRI methods. Copy rights belong to original authors.

In which we learn that dead whales are not welcome to settle in for a long winter’s nap on Oregon beaches, at least as far as the State Highway Division in concerned. Featuring an interview with Paul Linman. Cause it’s our Kick Ass Oregon History Christmas Special!!! Mr. Linnman has, of course, LITERALLY writen the book on the subject – and it’s a great volume. You should buy The Exploding Whale right here. And here is a youtube clip of Mr. Linnman’s segment. As he states in our interview – you’ve seen it a TON, and he has never received any compensation for it – so do him a favor for years of enjoyment, and buy his damn book! And here is a poem by some Welsh fellow that kinda bastardized the Oregon version (IMHO) A Child’s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas And from The Oregonian, 11-22-1970, page, 74,
