Way back in Episode 27, the Camerosity gang went on a three hour tour to a tropical paradise and asked everyone what would be their idea of three "desert island" cameras that they would want to be stranded with if they couldn't have anything else. That discussion proved to be a fun one and something we had wanted to revisit again. It would take us all the way to Episode 88 when we would finally put out the call for another Desert Island episode. Joining Anthony, Paul, Mike and our new regular host Stephen Strangways, are returning callers A.J. Gentile, Andrew and Christopher Wells, Ira Cohen, Will Pinkham, and first time caller Robin Stone. Starting with this episode, we are welcoming Stephen as one of the regular hosts to the show. His presence and knowledge on many previous episodes has impressed us, and after considering regular scheduling conflicts with the four regular hosts, we thought it was time to add a fifth person. Although Theo has missed the last two episodes, he is still very much apart of the show and will return soon. With a fifth host, in the event one of the "original four" have a scheduling issue, we can continue without hesitation. On this episode, we go through a tremendous amount of GAS, covering many unexpected models including multiple Horseman cameras, a Fuji G617, Argus Brick, Nikon F2, Leica CL, Zeiss-Ikon Tenax II, and many, many others. In addition to commercially available cameras, both Andrew and Christopher Wells share with us their own home made 3D printed large format creations. Custom cameras built to use any combination of lenses, shutters, and film backs in a million different combinations are truly one of the more fascinating aspects of this hobby. And if 3D printing your own camera isn't cool enough, Andrew took it a step further and even made his own bellows! In addition to tropical island GAS, we answer the question of why the Nikon F mount is backwards of almost every other interchangeable lens system and the Wells brothers give us a quick update of the state of current Polaroid Originals instant film. Meet Anthony, Paul, and Mike: If you are in the vicinity of Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, March 22nd, come to the Ohio Camera Swap at the Hilton Garden Inn Cincinnati/West Chester and say hi to us. Who knows, maybe even some other Camerosity Podcast regulars will show up as well. While you're there, maybe you can buy something from us! As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are into shooting or collecting cameras, no matter how long you've been doing it, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, the Camerosity Discord server, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. For our next episode, we will be discussing camera failures and home repairs. What are some of the most common problems vintage cameras face and what can you do to get them back up and working? While the Camerosity Podcast fully recommends professional CLAs to keep vintage cameras going as long as possible, we understand that a full service on every vintage camera is impractical, so sometimes you have to take matters in your own hands. If you aren't afraid to go inside a camera and possibly make it worse, the next episode may be for you! We will record Episode 89 on Monday, March 10th at 7pm Central Daylight Time and 8pm Eastern Daylight Time. (Note that Daylight Savings Time starts in North America on Sunday, March 9th, so be sure to check your local time if you plan on joining the show!) Teaching logic to middle schoolers—isn't that asking for trouble? Or perhaps it's just what the doctor ordered: young men and women learning careful, responsible rules of reasonable argument. Still, it takes a bright and brave teacher to guide thirteen-year-olds into the land of logic. Find out how and why it's done, in this friendly guide to Classical Christian Education.
Send us a textRemember Beetlejuice from the 80s? You know, the one we all saw like a hundred times. Now, with the release of the Beetlejuice sequel (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) all these decades later, we're wondering if the original Beetlejuice is as good as we remember. It almost has to be right? Tim Burton's insane story with stop motion & macabre visuals, Micheal Keaton in an iconic performance, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis! To be honest, if this movie isn't half as good as we remember, we are going to be crushed.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?
Welcome to another engaging episode of the Inflamed in the Brain podcast with your host and expert dietitian, Krissy. In today's episode, Krissy delves deep into the realm of meat, particularly red meat, and explores why grass-fed beef is not only delicious but also a nutritional powerhouse. With her unique insights and personal experiences, Krissy aims to debunk myths and shed light on the importance of incorporating red meat into a balanced diet.Main Points:Dispelling Misconceptions about Red Meat and Heart Health: Krissy kicks off the episode by addressing common misconceptions surrounding red meat consumption and its purported link to heart disease. Through recent research findings, she highlights the nuanced relationship between saturated fat intake, LDL cholesterol levels, and heart disease risk. Krissy emphasizes the significance of distinguishing between different subtypes of LDL particles and their impact on cardiovascular health, providing clarity on the topic. The Anti-Inflammatory Benefits of Grass-Fed Beef: Moving on to the focal point of the episode, Krissy explores the numerous health benefits of grass-fed beef, particularly its higher content of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs). She elaborates on how grass-fed cattle's natural grazing habits contribute to elevated levels of omega-3s and CLAs in their meat, making it an ideal choice for individuals seeking to reduce inflammation and support overall well-being.Glutathione and Antioxidant Richness: Krissy delves into the superior antioxidant profile of grass-fed beef, emphasizing the importance of glutathione in combating oxidative stress and promoting cellular health. She explains how grass-fed cattle's diet influences the synthesis of glutathione within their bodies, leading to higher levels of this potent antioxidant in their meat compared to grain-fed counterparts.Mitigating Antibiotic Exposure: Highlighting another advantage of grass-fed beef, Krissy discusses the lower levels of antibiotics found in grass-fed meat compared to grain-fed alternatives. She elucidates the risks associated with antibiotic usage in livestock production and how opting for grass-fed beef can mitigate exposure to antibiotics and reduce the risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. As the episode draws to a close, Krissy reaffirms the nutritional superiority of grass-fed beef and addresses potential concerns about its availability and cost. She encourages listeners to view grass-fed beef as a worthwhile investment in their health and offers practical tips for incorporating it into their budget. Krissy also shares her personal recommendation, ButcherBox, as a convenient and reliable source of high-quality grass-fed meat, complete with exclusive discounts for listeners.LINKS MENTIONED:FREE RESOURCE: Top 17 Anti-Inflammatory Kitchen Swaps SAVE 50 BUCKS ON GRASS-FED BEEF WITH BUTCHERBOX HEREHungry For More? He personified ol' time hockey between the years 1934 – 1948, winning 3 cups and then coached from 1955 – 1968, winning another 8!!We also talk Heritage Classic fashions, Pride Tape reversals and the punting of Pinto, for 41 games at least. All that, plus the Jet's, the GLH and some great tunes!
Josh and Kurt talk about contributor license agreements (CLAs). CLAs used to be seen as a necessary evil, but they're almost certainly bad now. We're seeing CLAs being abused, it's clear now anything controlled by a CLA won't be open source forever. Kelsey Hightower joined Bryan and Adam to revisit a topic Bryan had spoken about a decade ago: corporate open source anti-patterns. Kelsey brought his typical sagacity to a complex and fraught topic. We've been hosting a live show weekly on Mondays at 5p for about an hour, and recording them all; here is the recording from August 28th, 2023.In addition to Bryan Cantrill and Adam Leventhal, we were joined by Kelsey Hightower. Here is the (lightly edited) live chat from the show: xxxxbubbler: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm8P4oCIY3g here is Bryan's talk from 1 decade ago, for reference rolipo.li: web3 is going great rolipo.li: https://web3isgoinggreat.com/ ahl0003: Last time Kelsey joined us for predictions blainehansen: "Governance orgies" happen when the governance mechanisms aren't well-designed ha. The United States was once hailed as a pinnacle example for democracy, but its credibility has slowly eroded since the turn of the century. Since the Trump presidency, that credibility has declined exponentially due to blatant attacks on democracy, financial crises, and increasingly growing political polarization among its citizens. How have domestic issues affected its global credibility, partnerships, and the way budding democracies perceive this deeply divided country and its issues? To further explore how other countries view the U.S. and its domestic challenges, join us with Dr. Célia Belin, a senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations and head of its Paris office since January 2023; Aude Darnal, Research Associate in the Stimson Center's Reimagining U.S. Grand Strategy Program; and Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a historian and commentator on fascism, authoritarian leaders, and propaganda.Follow us at:Network2020.orgTwitter: @Network2020LinkedIn: Network 20/20Facebook: @network2020Instagram: @network_2020Photo credit: Ingram Pinn"Sunrise Expedition" by Joseph McDadeTitle: Lightless DawnMusic: Kevin MacLeodLicense: CC BY 3.0 (http://goo.gl/BlcHZR)"Scott Buckley - Horizons" is under a Creative Commons (CC BY 3.0) license.https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... / musicbyscottb Music promoted by BreakingCopyright: •

Hey! Have you heard that the UConn Huskies men's basketball team are YOUR 2023 NCAA national champions? OF COURSE YOU HAVE. In this episode, recorded hours after the final game, Julie and Tom talk about it in a very sleep-deprived way that will either capture the lingering excitement of the moment or make you wonder if the fumes from the soundproof paneling have started to finally get to us. Then, professionalism kicks in once again, and we have a fascinating chat with Nidhi Nair '23 (CLAS), UConn's first-ever Schwarzman Scholar and someone with a keen grasp of economics in both the macro and micro arenas. In this wide-ranging discussion, we talk about how she started an effort to boost financial literacy among her fellow students, the United Nations COP26 conference in Glasgow which she attended as a student fellow, her future plans to study in China, and much more. We then travel back to the magical summer of 1966 to learn about the best spots on campus to listen to recordings and check out pamphlets. Take a listen!

You know what they say, 'An apple a day, keeps the doctor away...' so for those of you with broken Contaxes, you better get rid of all your apples as the doctor is here! Okay, so maybe he hasn't quite gotten his PhD yet, but in this, the 41st episode of the Camerosity Podcast, we are happy to introduce you to Brandon Monroe, an aviation mechanics student who just so happens to really love the Zeiss-Ikon Contax rangefinders so much that he wanted to learn how to repair them himself. Brandon reached out to other well known technicians who repair Contaxes like Henry Scherer and Mark Hansen and learned what he could from them. For everything else, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. Tearing down several broken Contax rangefinders, and at least one that had been previously CLAd to see what was done, Brandon has recently become successful at full CLAs of both pre and postwar Contax IIs and IIIs. Brandon has repaired several cameras for Paul and a few others, and according to Paul, the cameras are like new. Listen in as Brandon tells his story of how he got started and why he fell in love with Contax rangefinders. He discusses differences between the pre and postwar shutters, what the shutters are made of, how the rangefinders work and how they're adjusted, who makes our favorite Contax lens adapters, using Contax lenses on Nikon rangefinders, plus a huge number of other things. Mike can't help himself and goes into the history of the camera somewhat, explaining how the Contax I came to be, and what differences are between it and the later cameras. Joining us on this episode are returning guests Aidan Dean, Alex Dietrich, and first time callers Steve Wilcox and from all the way in Belgium, Eric Kaas Sluis, a self professed Contax addict who has one of the largest collections of working Contaxes and lenses in the world. In addition to repair of the Contax, we talk about what makes them special, who made the original Zeiss-Ikon Contax in 1926 (Hint: His name rhymes with 'Bagel'), postwar Jena Contaxes, and why you should consider a Kiev if you cannot afford a Contax. Amazingly, the guys somehow manage to stay on topic for most of the show, but a small amount of time is spent on a few other cameras that we just can't stop talking about. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you. We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras. Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. If you want to join us for our next episode, we will record Episode 42 on Monday, February 6th and we will talk American cameras like Argus, Clarus, Perfex, and many other brands you may or may not have heard of! Be sure to stay tuned for the official announcement! In this episode, Dr. Kathy Murphy joins the podcast to talk about dogs' brains and how they process information during adolescence. Adolescence can be a difficult stage for both dogs and their humans but having better knowledge on what an adolescent dog is going through can make this stage little more bearable. Dr Kathy Murphy (BVetMed, DPhil, CVA, CLAS, MRCVS) is a veterinary surgeon and neuroscientist. She graduated from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons UK in 1999, initially working in mixed clinical practice before studying for two post graduate clinical qualifications with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia, and Laboratory Animal Science.Dr Murphy founded, and is now Director of, Barking Brains Ltd (a neuroscience outreach platform for the animal behavior and training community), which focuses on translating neuroscientific information into practical and useful information for people interested in animal behavior. In order to maximize the impact of her diverse interests and skill set, Dr Murphy teamed up with Behavior Vets LLC in 2022 when she took up the position of Chief Scientific Officer. She is now able to focus on her newfound passion for science communication and providing evidence based, up to date, accessible, scientific information to clinicians, animal professionals and their clients, about subjects related to pain, behavior, neurobiology and the many interrelated factors.Barking Brains | FacebookBehavior Vets | FacebookDog behavior training by specialists - NYC Behavior Vets (behaviorvetsnyc.com)Support the show
