An estimated 7 million (11.4%) U.S. children aged 3–17 years have been diagnosed with ADHD, according to a national survey of parents using data from 2022. This represents an increase of 1 million compared to 2016. Ritalin is a brand name for the prescription medication methylphenidate, a central nervous system stimulant used primarily to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It works by affecting chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control, helping to improve focus, attention, and reduce impulsive behaviors and hyperactivity.
