Rudolf Scholten und Wolfgang Maderthaner: GESCHICHTSSCHREIBUNG ZWISCHEN MYTHEN UND LEGENDEN – FOLGE 8 Des Stifters Erbe: Von Leichentüchern, Finanzkapitalisten und innerdynastischen Machtkämpfen In dieser – achten - Folge ihrer Gespräche über Mythen und Legenden in der Geschichte Österreichs führen uns Rudolf Scholten und Wolfgang Maderthaner ins 14. Jahrhundert. Sie widmen sich dem Habsburger-Herrscher Rudolf IV., genannt der Stifter, und seinen Erben. Rudolf IV. herrscht ab 1358 über die Herzogtümer Österreich (heute Nieder- und Oberösterreich), Kärnten und Steiermark, später auch über Tirol und die Krain (heute Teil Sloweniens). Er festigt die Stellung Wiens als Residenzstadt der Habsburger, baut den Stephansdom aus und gründet die Universität Wien. Verheiratet mit Katharina von Luxemburg, Tochter des deutschen Kaisers Karls IV., schließt er mit seinem Schwiegervater einen Erbvertrag, der die gegenseitige Erbfolge von Habsburgern und Luxemburgern im Fall des Aussterbens einer der beiden Dynastien vorsieht. Mit dem „Privilegium Maius“, der geschicktesten Urkundenfälschung des Mittelalters, sichert er den Habsburgern Sonderrechte und stellt sie als Erzherzöge den Kurfürsten im Heiligen Römischen Reich gleich.Als ehrgeizig und weitblickend erweist sich Rudolf auch in seiner Wirtschaftspolitik: Er richtete seinen Blick nach Italien, wo sich mit Lucca und Mailand neue Handels- und Finanzzentren entwickeln, die Ausgangspunkte einer neuen Wirtschaftsordnung werden. Seinen jüngeren Bruder Leopold verheiratet er mit einer Tochter des wohlhabenden Mailänder Fürstengeschlechts Visconti. 1365 stirbt Rudolf im Alter von nur 25 Jahren in Mailand. Seine Brüder Albrecht und Leopold und deren Nachkommen teilen sich – keineswegs einvernehmlich - die Herrschaft über die habsburgischen Länder.Innerfamiliäre Konflikte und kriegerische Auseinandersetzungen mit Rivalen und Aufständischen prägen die nächsten Jahrzehnte. Erst spät im 15. Jahrhundert wird es Maximilian I. gelingen, die Macht im Habsburgerreich auf sich zu vereinen. Nous sommes le 31 août 1914, au lendemain de la bataille de Tannenberg. Cette bataille au cours de laquelle la VIIIe armée allemande, commandée par Paul von Hindenburg, écrase les troupes russes. Hindenburg écrit à l'empereur Guillaume II : « J'annonce à votre Majesté que depuis hier, les Russes sont tous soumis et que l'étau s'est refermé autour de la plus grande partie de l'armée russe : le XIIIe, le XVe et le XVIIIe Corps d'armée sont détruits. Les pièces d'artillerie sont rassemblées dans les forêts. Le butin de guerre n'a pas encore été comptabilisé mais il est extraordinairement important. Aux alentours, le Ier et le VIe Corps ont également souffert terriblement… » L'année suivant cette lettre, une gigantesque statue de bois représentant le vainqueur est inaugurée à Berlin en présence d'une foule immense. La statue mesure douze mètres de haut et pèse vingt-six tonnes. Hindenburg devient un mythe. En avril 1925, Le maréchal accède aux plus hautes marches du pouvoir en remportant l'élection à la présidence du Reich. Il est réélu en 1932. En janvier 1933, il confie le rôle de chancelier à Adolf Hitler. Intrigant, opportuniste, usurpateur, multipliant les erreurs jusqu'à mener l'Allemagne aux portes de la plus tragique page de son histoire : qui était Hindenburg ?
