Heart of God by Collette Pekar
As I'm getting Facebook Live Chapel servies going again I wanted to get everyone caught up w/ Mark. So here is an overview of Mark chapter one. Next week we will start fresh w/ Mark chapter 2.
Mark 1:40-45Why do we come to God or to Jesus? For wisdom, for fellowship, for relationship? Or is it just to see a magic show?
Our “Are you Studying” series is a “verse-by-verse” study of the Biblical text and we conclude the first chapter of Mark and Jesus’ compassion upon a leper—a great lesson for all of us to embrace and follow.
An IGH textual study…Are you studying?
John asks what words we might use to describe Jesus, and what images of God that offers us. And then to ask- Where have we experienced those qualities of that in our lives?- What is the invitation as we enter Lent? He then explores Mark 1:40-45, getting behind the healing, and seeing it as a further example of what “Now is the time! Here comes God’s kingdom! Let that blow your mind and change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!” might mean. How does all this help us be open to invitation in Lent to?The notes for this sermon can be found here
Given at St. Anselm's Abbey by Fr. Samuel Springuel on February 14, 2021.
Expository Sermon by Pastor and Preacher, Samuel Farag. Preached on June 25, 2020, at Richardson East Baptist Church in Richardson, TX.
During the Covid-19 pandemic a sense of being "untouchable" quickly permeated much of global culture, which brings up an important question. How does Jesus engage with the "untouchable"? In Mark 1:40-45 a man comes to him with a potentially contagious disease, and Jesus counter-culturally, physically touches him! A guy rejected by society, that the law demands be separated from society, is touched and instantly made clean. Beyond Covid-19, who are the "untouchables" in our culture? How does Jesus call us to engage with the outcasts? How is Jesus engaging with us?
John explores what words we might use to describe what Jesus does when he heals the leper, and what those words teach us about the nature and character of God. (using David Lose’s posting on Working Preacher from 2012) He then invites people to explore what this story says to their understanding of God
