Mark 14:1-11Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 2 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year's wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. 11 They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

In this week's message, Pastor Adam taught about gratitude based off the account of Jesus healing the ten lepers in Luke 17. Only one, a foreigner, came to thank Jesus for his healing, falling down at his feet and worshipping him. That should be our response as we remember all that God has done for us. But more than that, as we come to understand who God is and thank Him most because He alone is worthy. Pastor Adam shares some practical advice on fighting against the enemies of gratitude and fighting alongside the allies of gratitude as we're in this spiritual war for our hearts. -Featuring Adam Sexton
We are firmly in Act III of the Gospel of Mark today as Jesus is anointed for burial by a woman at the home of Simon the Leper. This anointing points to Jesus' Kingship, Messiahship, and pending sacrifice. The woman's total commitment to Him is shown in this “no going back” breaking of this extremely expensive vessel in order to bring Jesus honor to the greatest extreme of which she is capable. There are moments in our lives when we receive the same nudge, including the daily call of Jesus to follow Him with total commitment. This woman's devotion is seen in stark contrast to Judas' betrayal, which ends this “sandwich” episode that begins and ends with men who have no clue (religious leaders, then Judas) with the “meat” of the sandwich being this heroic, insightful, Sprit-led, nameless woman who surpasses them all and thus is set in our memories by none other than Jesus Himself. To investigate this most important of stories further, go here.

“How to touch a leper”Mark 1:40-45Having recently completed our series “None Like Jesus” let's continue to “Behold Him” by embarking on a new study through the Gospel of Mark. Mark's Gospel is the shortest of the four Gospels and it is action-packed from start to finish – as evidenced by the word “immediately” used over 40 times. Mark wrote to believers, probably Roman believers, who were no strangers to persecution. And he wanted to disciple his readers to be strong in their faith by encouraging them to look to their Mighty Messiah, the Son of God, who remained steadfastly faithful even while becoming their Suffering Servant who died for them. Mark's Gospel is a call to all believers to fearlessly “Follow Jesus” because they can trust Him completely.

Jesus has the power to make the unclean clean! In Luke 5:12-16, a leper—outcast, suffering, and without hope—falls before Jesus and says, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” And what does Jesus do? He reaches out, touches the man, and declares, “I am willing. Be cleansed.” Immediately, the disease is gone. This moment isn't just about physical healing—it's about the deeper cleansing that only Jesus can bring. Just as leprosy separated this man from his community, sin separates us from God. But through Jesus, we can be restored, made new, and brought back into fellowship with Him.This is the good news of the Gospel! Jesus didn't come just to heal sickness—He came to heal our souls. His authority isn't just over disease, but over sin and death itself. He calls us to turn from our sin, put our faith in Him, and be made whole. Just as He cleansed the leper, He offers to cleanse you today. Will you come to Him? Will you receive the healing that only He can give?

2/26/25 - St. Damien was a Belgian priest who answered God's call to minister to the lepers of Molokai, Hawaii in the late 19th century. Leaving behind his home and family, St. Damien selflessly devoted himself to caring for those exiled to the isolated leper colony, providing not only medical care, but also spiritual support. He built churches, schools, and homes, offering the love and dignity of Christ to those society had abandoned. Despite contracting leprosy himself and ultimately dying from the disease, St. Damien's unwavering faith and commitment to the marginalized can teach us a lot about the Catholic Church's mission to serve the poorest and most vulnerable.
Jesus cleanses a leper and gives mobility back to a paralyzed man. These miracles point to Jesus' power in restoring and healing the broken and hopeless at a deeper level, a sin level where our greatest need is. Forgiving sins is mankind's greatest need, and Jesus does that for all who believe in Him by faith. Now, those who believe, like the paralyzed man's friends, are sent to be lights in the world, willing to serve and outstretch their arms to others in need.

A lesson from Mark 1:40-42. Series: Stand-Alone Speaker: Caleb McLaughlin
Matthew 8:1–13 Jesus Cleanses a Leper [1] When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. [2] And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” [3] And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. [4] And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” The Faith of a Centurion [5] When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, [6] “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” [7] And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” [8] But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. [9] For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,' and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,' and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,' and he does it.” [10] When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. [11] I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, [12] while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” [13] And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.
