Coming from the heart, it can be hard to tell another person to “stand down” but it is truly a selfless and loving thing to let others know what sort of space you need for yourself. From parents, friends, lovers, children, to sisters, brothers, and the clerk at the store, everyone should know what type of way to behave around you. Emotional, physical, financial, setting up your own position in the world will set a good example for others to respect, and emulate. Think of it like this: Would you want your boss and all of the people at work in bed with you and your partner? Then get off the email at night! Seriously, boundaries are a good, healthy, balanced way to set up guideposts for your life. Here's some suggestions on how to do it with grace.
