What exactly is bookkeeping and why does it matter so much for your business? In this episode, Danielle Hayden, reformed corporate CFO and CEO of Kickstart Accounting, Inc., breaks down the basics of bookkeeping, explains how it supports your growth, and shares the real-life benefits of staying on top of your numbers. Whether you're just starting out or scaling fast, this is foundational knowledge every business owner needs. Key Takeaways: Bookkeeping Is Your Business's Financial Foundation: It's all about recording and organizing every transaction—sales, expenses, and everything in between—so you can make smart, informed decisions. Cash-Basis Accounting Is Usually the Right Fit for Small Businesses: Unlike big corporations, most small business owners don't need complex systems. Recording transactions when cash hits or leaves your bank account keeps things simple and clear. Timely Bookkeeping Saves You Time, Money, and Stress: When your books are current, you can avoid overpaying in taxes, make better business decisions, and skip the last-minute scramble at tax time. Accurate Books Protect You in Audits and Increase Your Business's Value: Clean records mean you're IRS audit-ready, and if you ever need to sell or get a valuation, your bookkeeping can directly impact your bottom line. As the CEO, You're Still Responsible: Even with a bookkeeper, it's your job to communicate business changes and review your reports regularly. That's how you turn numbers into growth. Special Note for S-Corp Owners: You must have accurate financials to file correctly and stay compliant. That means both income statements and balance sheets—don't skip this step! Topics Discussed: (00:29 – 01:33) What is Bookkeeping and Why Does It Matter? In this episode, I'm gonna be discussing the fact that a lot of people are people pleasers, seat fillers, captain save a hoe, and build a bears, and builder dolls when it comes to your family, friends, romancing, relationships, your siblings, and your job. It's a lot of people that every time they get successful they end up taking care of their family. This episode is also about breaking down what each one of these things mean when it comes to people who are people pleasers. People that sit up here and will do anything to make other people happy, while making themselves miserable at the same time. Lowering yourself for people that's not gonna do anything but leave you for a person that didn't help them with nothing. The fact that you have family members as far as your parents that treated you differently than your siblings. That wants you to take care of your siblings like you're the parent. I go over some of these African folk tales about people that had a lot of issues with their parents when it comes to taking care of them and their siblings. These stories are probably gonna blow your mind. So I hope this episode, makes a lot of of you rethink about taking care of your family when you become successful.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/with-self-respect-comes-self-love--5161847/support.

Let's unpack the heart of attention, addiction, autopilot and self-sabotage. This episode is a deep dive into the junk food of thought: addictive mental loops that hijack your attention, and keep you stuck repeating the same boring patterns — again and again and again. We talk about why your thoughts are like badly designed software, why addiction makes your brain less creative, and how to actually take back control. From scrolling email to self-sabotaging loops, it turns out the enemy isn't the internet… it's your untrained mind. Reframe addiction as a self-inflicted cognitive handicap Break the loop with “internal repulsion” instead of willpower Interrupt the mental chatter that blocks creativity You'll never look at your own thoughts the same way again. IntroductionA recurring topic on The Jewish Drinking Show is that of gentile wine. Having initially discussed it on episode #71 of the show on early rabbis on gentile [libation] wine, episode #135 of the show on how the rabbis of the Talmud perceived gentiles as compulsive libaters, and episode #83 of the show on Medieval rabbis on gentile wine, we also discussed it on episode #84 on Rabbi Moshe Isserles' infamous responsum on the Jews drinking gentile wine. For the 178th episode of The Jewish Drinking Show, we read of a duo of responsa on the matter by Rabbi Yair Ḥayim Bacharach, who composed the Ḥavvot Yair, as we are joined by first-time guest, Rabbi Aryeh Klapper.Biography of GuestRabbi Klapper is Dean of the Center for Modern Torah Leadership and Rosh Beit Midrash of the Summer Beit Midrash, entering its 29th year of developing male and female Torah leaders. Your twenties are supposed to be “the best years of your life,” right? But no one tells you how confusing, overwhelming, and straight-up weird they can be. Some real life insights today from pastor Ray Bentley. You were never going to get to the point where you're not going to have bad thoughts or wicked thoughts, or lustful thoughts, or prideful thoughts or covetous thoughts. But Lord, what can I do? He will not condemn you for having the thought. But now take that thought captive and say, Christ.
The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Have you ever asked yourself: "How do I teach my kids accountability when I'm not always perfect myself?" "Does admitting my mistakes actually make me a weaker dad?" "What does it truly take to build unbreakable trust with my children?" If these questions resonate, get ready for a raw and honest conversation that dives deep into one of the most vital lessons dads can teach: extreme ownership. Larry Hagner and his son Ethan Hagner share unfiltered stories from their family's journey—moments of frustration, tough conversations, heartfelt apologies, and the profound vulnerability that comes with admitting when you're wrong. Together, they explore why modeling accountability as a father doesn't diminish your credibility; it fundamentally builds trust and earns lasting respect. Become the best husband and leader you can: www.thedadedge.com/mastermind In this powerful conversation, we dig into: The Counterintuitive Power of Apology: Larry recounts difficult parenting seasons, including struggles with anger and the immense pressure to be a "perfect" dad, and how genuine apologies transformed those moments. A Son's Perspective on Accountability: Ethan offers a candid view on how his father's apologies and moments of ownership directly shaped his own character and understanding of responsibility. Taking Responsibility in Real Life: Ethan shares valuable examples of how he's learned to embrace ownership in his own life, both at home and in the classroom, providing relatable lessons for parents and teens alike. Beyond Perfection: Why the goal of fatherhood isn't about never making mistakes, but about how you respond when you do. Building Unbreakable Trust: The direct link between a father's vulnerability, owning his flaws, and fostering deep, secure trust with his children. This episode delivers authentic wisdom and reassurance, reminding every dad (and future dad) out there that perfection isn't the goal—connection and growth are. Here's what research and observation highlight about parental accountability and child development: Children whose parents model admitting mistakes and apologizing have 40% higher levels of empathy and a stronger sense of personal responsibility. Parental vulnerability and honesty in moments of error significantly increase a child's trust in their parents, leading to 35% more open communication. Adolescents with fathers who consistently practice accountability show a 25% lower likelihood of engaging in risky behaviors. www.thedadedge.com/alliance www.1stphorm.com/dadedge www.thedadedge.com/mastermind
People follow their hungers. Passion. Popularity. Pleasure. Pastor Ray Bentley says God wants us to exercise self-control. All of the normal desires that you have. They are not sinful in and of themselves. And in fact, without those desires, we couldn't function as human beings. It is when we seek to satisfy these desires outside of God's will that we get into trouble.
Day 46 - Purpose Going Backward Jonah 1:1-17 Sometimes, our setbacks aren't the enemy's doing or even God's discipline, but rather the consequences of our own choices. Yet, Jonah's story also reveals God's relentless grace—“Jonah teaches us that when God has a calling for you, even when you hang up, He'll call you back.” The whale wasn't punishment; it was God's way of saving Jonah from himself. “When God is in it, He will make up for the time you lost.” Purpose doesn't expire just because you took a detour—God can still bring you back. Taking Responsibility for Self-Sabotage “What do you do when you are responsible for your wilderness?” Have you ever faced a situation where you had to admit, “This one is on me”? How did you recover? Lessons from Delayed Purpose What does purpose going backward mean to you? Have you ever experienced a moment where a setback turned out to be a setup for something greater?

Let's stop pretending this is just a problem for soldiers and politicians. The “human shields excuse” isn't just some abstract wartime tactic—it's the same twisted reasoning people use every day to justify hurting others, dodging accountability, or compromising their integrity. It's what lets you blow up a relationship and blame the other person for making you do it. It's how you rationalize crossing a line—then sleep at night because technically, it wasn't your fault. In war, this excuse gets innocent people killed. In your life, it's killing your peace of mind, your self-respect, your trust in yourself. This might sound extreme. But if your success feels empty, if your relationships keep breaking down, if you're stuck in burnout with no idea why—you're probably making this excuse. Quietly. Repeatedly. And convincing yourself it's justified. This episode exposes this lie for what it is, and more importantly—how to stop living it. You'll discover the true cost of the “human shields excuse,” the subtle ways this shows up in your relationships and personal lives, and how to stop committing this fatal error, so you don't live the rest of your life wondering why your success feels so hollow. Listen now. Show Highlights Include: Why having a logical justification for blaming another person is a subtle trap that increases your suffering (and how to eliminate mental anguish without blaming others) (3:17) How offloading responsibility from your shoulders is the same excuse war criminals use to justify killing women and kids (15:31) The tragic result of spinning “good guy” stories in your head until you erode your self-trust and confidence completely (16:20) Why short-term wins that hijack your moral compass cost you far more in the long-term - financially and emotionally (19:53) A simple mindset shift that makes you look forward to taking responsibility (especially when it's hard) (23:32) David Tian's list of recommended readings can be found here: https://davidtianphd.com/recommended-readings/ For more about David Tian, go here: https://www.davidtianphd.com/about/ Want more success in leadership, deeper connections, or a greater sense of fulfillment? In this episode of the Especially for Athletes podcast, Dustin and Shad break down a powerful interview with NBA legend Charles Barkley that covers anger, blame, and the moment Barkley decided to stop playing with bitterness and start playing for the right reasons. Barkley shares a raw and honest story about how unresolved anger and the desire to “prove people wrong” nearly defined his career—and how one moment of reflection helped him shift his mindset. Dustin and Shad reflect on what it means to “play with an edge” versus “playing on the edge,” and how athletes, parents, and coaches alike can learn from Barkley’s hard-earned wisdom. Key Takeaways: Be 100% Responsible – “She didn’t flunk you. You flunked you.” Barkley’s turning point came when he finally took ownership of his choices. Playing With an Edge vs. On the Edge – Passion and intensity are great. But if they’re fueled by hate, it’s only a matter of time before you fall. Pre-decide Your Lines – Athletes and parents alike need to know their personal limits before competition starts to avoid moments they’ll regret. Competing Without Contempt – Proving others wrong might be motivating—but don’t let bitterness steal your joy or define your character. The Power of Maturity – Barkley’s journey reminds us that true greatness isn’t just about skill—it’s about growth, humility, and self-awareness. Whether you’re an athlete, coach, or parent, this episode is a reminder to stay grounded, play with purpose, and keep your Eyes Up and Do the Work—for the right reasons. Purpose is a factor of life that every man knows will improve his quality of life. Unfortunately, we seem to be in an era when purpose is increasingly abysmal in the lives of too many men. Men in all walks and stages of life are floundering around aimlessly, wondering why they're anxious, depressed, and alone. My guest today, Garrett Unclebach, former Navy SEAL, is a man who is intimately familiar with why and how purpose drives men to step up, take charge of their lives, and succeed. We unpack why a man must look beyond himself, how surrendering in certain circumstances could lead you to an incredible place you've never considered, the power of equanimity and how to cultivate it, why being faithful when you have nothing leads to a life of prosperity and abundance, and how to judge what you should be doing and who you should be doing it with. It's time to take responsibility for your actions and place in life. Yes your circumstances are very real and should be validated as a lot of them I believe are outside your control.
