In this episode, I joined Emily for a deep and soulful conversation on the mini series she's created – diving into real, raw, and essential truths about healing from an eating disorder. Here's what we explored together:✨ My three most important lessons from recovery (and how they shifted everything).✨ The power of owning that no one is coming to save you – and why that's the ultimate key to freedom.✨ How true healing goes far beyond food and body image… it's about loving and fully accepting your authentic self.✨ Why fighting can only take you so far, and why surrender was my secret weapon.✨ What full recovery feels like (and why it's so worth it).I also shared a personal story about how my healing journey unlocked self-expression, love, and deep peace – and how it still shapes the way I show up in my life today.Emily and I both agreed: Recovery was the hardest thing we've ever done. And it's worth every second.

This week, I sat down once again with the one and only Tabitha Farrar—eating disorder recovery coach, author, and all-round truth-teller—to talk about how to actually rewire negative body image.Tabitha's just released a powerful new book called “Fried Eggs and Thunder Thighs” (yes, you read that right!) and it dives deep into the root of negative body image and how to teach your brain a different story. In this conversation, we explored: • Why negative body image is not your fault—and definitely not your truth • How your actions teach your brain more than your thoughts ever will • What to do when shame shows up • How to respond when someone does comment on your body • Why being “recovered” doesn't automatically mean you'll love your body—and what to do about itWe also talk about her newly rewritten version of Rehabilitate, Rewire, Recover and why she decided to go back and make it even more bold, honest, and helpful. This is a must-listen if you: • Still struggle with body image even after recovering from disordered eating • Want to feel more free and confident in your body, regardless of size • Are tired of being controlled by negative thoughts or shame • Are curious about how emotions like guilt and disgust are actually tools your brain uses—and how to take your power backIn this episode, we get real about: • How to act “as if” you love your body (even when you don't yet) • The difference between your brain and your mind—and why that matters • Why it's not about waiting to feel better before you take action • The fastest way to rewire body image beliefs • What I do when my own brain throws shame my wayResources mentioned:

Why recovering from an eating disorder was harder than giving birth

Hey loves, here's what today's episode is all about…I'm sitting here in my kitchen, little Koa on my boob (boobalicious, as I like to call it), needing a wee and feeling a bit hungry, but I thought—before I disturb her peaceful little nap—I'll record this episode. Because a question came up in my group coaching that I really wanted to talk about.Jan, one of my coaching clients, listened to my birth story episode and said something I mentioned really stood out to her. I had said that recovering from my eating disorder was harder than giving birth naturally, unmedicated, at home. She wanted me to elaborate on why.So today, I'm breaking it all down: why, despite the intensity of labor, recovery was the harder journey for me—and what that means for you if you're still in the thick of it. I'll share the deep identity shifts, the surrender, the trust, the fears, and the choice that comes with recovery in a way that birth simply didn't. Because here's the thing: giving birth was inevitable. Recovery wasn't.If you've ever felt like recovery is an impossible battle, this episode is for you. Because while recovery is hard, it's also temporary. Just like labor. And on the other side? Freedom. What I Talk About in This Episode: Why recovery was harder than giving birth (even though birth was incredibly painful) The key role of surrender and trust in both birth and healing The identity crisis I went through in recovery (and why it was actually a good thing!) Why birth is inevitable, but recovery is a choice—over and over again How letting go of control was the hardest (but most necessary) part of healing The importance of reframing beliefs every single day Why gaining weight was actually gaining life The three core values that guided me through both birth and recoverySome of My Favorite Quotes From This Episode: "Recovery is temporary, just like birth—but instead of hours, it's an extended period of temporary shit and pain." "I knew my body would birth my baby whether I liked it or not. Recovery, though? That was a choice I had to make over and over again." "Restriction is the quick fix. Freedom is the real work." "Beyond fear lies freedom—but you have to walk through the fear to get there." "My body is so much wiser than my mind ever was—whether in birth or in healing." "Surrender isn't weakness. It's the most powerful thing you can do." "I had to let go of the identity that was keeping me safe—but also keeping me stuck." "Gaining weight wasn't losing control. It was gaining my life back." "Recovery demands you rewire your beliefs every single day, not just once." "You can't wait until you feel ready. You take the leap, and your feelings catch up later."Let's Connect: Listen to my Birth Story & Interview with My Doula: https://victoriakleinsman.com/body-image/my-positive-home-birth-story-chat-with-my-doula/ Join My Group Coaching Program: https://victoriakleinsman.com/group-coaching/ Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/victoriakleinsmanofficial/

What the fuck to actually eat when you stop restricting

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 21, 2025 22:13

Hey Queens! In this episode, I'm talking about a question I get asked all the time: “What the f**k do I actually eat when I stop restricting?” It's inspired by a lovely listener, Hedi, and so many of you who've shared the same struggle. I'm here to reassure you that, yes, it can feel paralyzing when you finally drop all your food rules—but there's freedom on the other side. Eat Whatever the Fk You Want** You've let go of restriction, so the world of food can suddenly feel huge and overwhelming. There's no “wrong” way to reintroduce foods—give yourself permission to honor what you truly want. If you're not sure what you want, try checking in with your inner child or imagine you're no longer afraid of any food—then see what comes up. No Food Is Off-Limits Let go of the idea that certain foods are “bad.” Every food has its place. You don't need to earn your food or feel guilty. Guilt only shows up when you believe you've done something wrong, so unlearn all that diet-culture BS. Follow Your Hunger—Even If You're Not Hungry Start by eating however much your body asks for, without counting portions or calculating macros. If you've been restricting for years, your hunger cues may be all over the place. Eating at regular intervals—even when you're not physically starving—is part of rebuilding trust with your body. Challenge Safe Foods Relying only on “safe” foods keeps you in a restrictive mindset. Pick one food that scares you—like pasta or chocolate—and give it a try. Discomfort is normal; it's also where the magic of freedom happens. Take Inspiration from Free Eaters If you feel lost about “normal” eating, look to someone with a truly non-restrictive, intuitive style. I shared a sample day where breakfast could be toast with peanut butter, a mid-morning donut if desired, a satisfying lunch, an afternoon snack, and a flexible dinner—without overthinking or planning. Enjoy Your Food After years of fear, let yourself rediscover pleasure in eating. Savor the flavors, eat slowly if it feels good, and notice how each bite tastes without shame or guilt. I've been where you are, terrified and convinced “going all in” meant I'd lose control forever. But by trusting my body, I now eat a naturally balanced diet without obsessing—chocolate is just chocolate, not a forbidden treat I can't stop thinking about. It might feel messy and chaotic at first, but it gets easier. Unconditional permission to eat is the path to true food freedom. Eat anything and everything your body craves, and keep reminding yourself: you can't do this wrong. This episode is all about letting go of rules and letting your body guide you. You'll find your equilibrium as you practice. If you enjoyed this and found it helpful, I'd love your support! 4 steps to start overcoming your fear of weight gain

In this podcast episode, Victoria Kleinsman talks about overcoming the fear of weight gain. She shares her personal struggles with this fear and offers practical tips on how we can move past it to live fuller, happier lives. Main discussion points: - Weight gain is often seen as a marker of personal failure in society. This breeds deep fears in many people (Victoria shares that she'd rather have died than gain weight). - The fear manifests in behaviours like chronic dieting, bingeing-purging cycles, obsessive weighing, etc. But these approaches rarely work long-term. - Fear of weight gain is not innate; it's learned. It links to deeper fears of being unloved and rejected. - The fear can become self-fulfilling - stress promotes fat storage. Fear of weight gain causes stress leading to actual weight gain. - Shift focus to self-care habits that gradually diffuse the fear - pursuing passions, spending time with body-positive people, speaking kindly to yourself. - Understand that you can live happily at many weights. Chasing thinness often sacrifices what truly matters - intimacy, meaning, fulfillment. Key quotes: "I would rather have died than gain weight." [00:01:39] "We think we'll be better when we're thinner. It's time to claim back your worthiness, my love." [00:08:30] "Thinness is not an innate human need. Love and acceptance is." But what about health if I'm eating whatever I want?

In this episode of The Body Love Binge podcast, I dive into a question I get asked all the time: How do you pursue health while allowing yourself to eat whatever you want during your eating disorder recovery journey? I believe that health should never be used as a reason to judge or shame yourself—or anyone else, for that matter. Instead, I argue that mental and emotional health, as well as self-care, should be prioritized over rigid definitions of "healthy eating." Main Discussion Points: Health is so often defined by physical metrics alone, but it's important to recognize that true health also includes mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Shame and guilt about food choices don't lead to health—they lead to disordered eating cycles. What really helps is self-acceptance and compassion. Choosing foods that bring you comfort can actually be an act of self-care for your mental health. Forcing yourself into rigid "healthy" eating often backfires. Allowing yourself all foods creates space for you to make genuinely healthy choices when you feel ready. It's about quality of life—not just extending it at the cost of your happiness. Health looks different for everyone. Make choices that feel right for your body and your unique needs. Key Quotes: "Shame and guilt do not make you healthier. They make you miserable." [00:05:52] "You deserve a life where your worth is not measured by the number on the scale or the type of food that you eat." [00:11:53] "Allowance creates space for choice. You cannot rush to this stage." [00:09:55] I hope this episode brings you the reassurance you need as you continue your journey toward true health and freedom! This podcast episode features life coach Victoria Kleinsman interviewing her former coaching client Iruka. They discuss Iruka's decades-long struggles with disordered eating, body image issues, restrictive dieting, and compulsive exercise. Listeners can expect to gain insight into Iruka's journey to recovery, including what finally enabled her to break free of restrictive dieting for good. Main Discussion Points - Iruka first started dieting around age 9-10 when she had negative thoughts about her body after wearing an ill-fitting PE uniform - She suffered from years of restrictive eating, "good food/bad food" outlooks, calorie counting, over-exercise and recurring cycles of bingeing - A realisation that even her attempts at moderate eating plans kept failing her was an "aha moment" that doing more of the same wouldn't cut it - Working with Victoria taught her that stopping restriction is key to ending binge urges and finding balance with all foods - Exercise was previously compulsive and led to injury; now she works out for mental/physical health without tracking or calories goals Quotes "It's not about any bullshit, quite frankly, which is all short termist and temporary, and external...This is about, you know, what feels good inside." [00:39:16-00:39:36] "I truly didn't believe that it was possible to be at this point where I'm at now." [00:28:21-00:28:29] "The cost at the beginning of recovery, this was my experience anyway...that cost isn't as it doesn't feel as big now as it did when you made that decision of, like, right. I'm gonna go forward with Victoria, and then these things might happen as a consequence of that." [00:47:07-00:47:25] Bios Iruka is a 44 year-old general practitioner (doctor) and mother of two. Victoria Kleinsman is a certified eating psychology coach who helps women heal their relationship with food and body using a non-diet, Health At Every Size® aligned approach. How do I know my extreme hunger isn't binge eating?

In this podcast episode, I discuss the differences between extreme hunger and binge eating in eating disorder recovery. I provide an in-depth explanation of the underlying drivers of both to help you understand why they happen and how to overcome them. Expect to gain clarity and reassurance around extreme hunger and binge eating through my candid wisdom and personal recovery story. Main Discussion Points: - Extreme hunger is a biological and psychological response to restriction and past starvation, while binge eating tends to be a reaction to current restriction - Binge eating cannot happen if you keep allowing extreme hunger without attempting to restrict or compensate - Emotional eating is using food to cope with emotions, not the same as binge eating - Physical deprivation (dieting), mental deprivation (fear or guilt around food), and emotional deprivation (not letting yourself enjoy food) lead to binge eating - The only way out is to eat freely without restriction forever Key Quotes: "Binge eating is simply a healthy response to any type of restriction." (00:10:53) "The quickest way to the other side in freedom is allowing all foods." (00:16:08) "The only way to full recovery and mental freedom is to eat unrestrictedly for the rest of your life."
