When I woke up and checked Facebook this morning, my feed was full of proud parents posting pictures of their beautiful babies. And while that isn't at all unusual, the fact that these parents are celebrating and raising awareness for children who are autistic does. As a mother, I thought I'd take a moment to consider and honor all those people in my life touched by Autism. Let's pause and think about how we can all be different learners. Motivation can be a tricky thing. Even though you know that you should do something, and you have planned it, declared it, and committed to it, it can still be hard to find the drive needed to get it done. Things get in the way: FEAR is often the problem, not knowing how to do something is another obstacle, and even laziness can be a stumbling block to honoring your commitments. Sometimes, a mantra like "No excuses" can be just the kick in the pants you need to get moving. But other times, as I'll share in today's episode, the way to get things done is to grant yourself permission to do the least amount possible. Listen as I share the secret that might just make your big, scary goals possible. We like to joke in the MomBiz.com community that we mompreneurs are "Chief Everything Officers" (our play on the acronym CEO) since we manage our businesses, our households, and our families. But this month we have been discussing the importance of truly owning your role as Chief Executive Officer in your successful small business. What does that actually look like? What roles should you own, and which should you delegate to others? Your time is precious, so join me today when I share the 6 hats a mom entrepreneur must wear as the CEO of her business. I spent last weekend hosting MomBizRetreat 2.0, our new Mastermind version of our popular MomBizRetreat weekend getaway for mompreneurs. Today I'll take a look back over some of the things I learned about these women and about myself. In particular, I'll share some insights about just how hard it is to figure out what we actually want in our lives. It seems simple, but it isn't. It takes a lot of work to get a small business thriving, full of products your customers want to buy, and a pipeline that is full of more customers who are ready to buy more from you. But every mompreneur will run into the same problem at some point: You can't sell anymore because you can't handle the work that results from those sales. There simply isn't enough of you to go around. I have coached many successful mom entrepreneurs on this in both my private coaching and in the MomBizAcademy (www.mombizacademy.com). While they are proud of their success, they are totally scared of what the next level of "success" will do to them--and to their families. They simply can't work more to make more. This is the tipping point that will make or break a successful mom-owned business. Tune in today as I discuss the simple, but not obvious, way to handle this sales challenge in a way that doesn't compromise your family (or lifestyle) priorities. I coach a lot of women entrepreneurs who are building a business based on a big idea they feel provides value to their niche market. They are web designers, virtual assistants, attorneys, life coaches, and designers, to name a few. And while I do coach them to "sell themselves," I've noticed a trend in the industry of personal branding that just doesn't make sense. I'll share with you why you have to sell more than yourself to make a profit, and give some tips on how to do that. One of my clients sent me a panicked email recently when she came across a website that seemed to be exactly what she believes her business is. The website was beautiful, its benefits and solutions for its audience were articulately so well and were easy to understand, and the experience of finding this website when my client is in the middle of updating her own website, messaging and offerings left her feeling .... well, deflated. She felt like all her hard work was good for nothing if someone else was already doing what she's doing, and especially since they seemed to be doing well. Has this ever happened to you? I bet lots of you are saying yes. And for those of you who haven't had the experience of finding out that someone else had your great idea, too, get ready. Because it will happen. Tune in today as I give some advice for what to do when the competition steals your great idea. Join Lara Galloway, The Mom Biz Coach, on Wednesdays at 10 am ET for her 15 minute "audio blog." You've heard me say many times before that your website needs to be a hard-working powerhouse for you. Its two most important jobs are marketing and sales. So let's take a step back and evaluate what we need as mompreneurs to sell more via our websites. Even if you have a brick-and-mortar small business, your website can bring you more customers and more sales if you have the right infrastructure and sales strategy in place. There are few things that help establish credibility as an expert better than writing a book and having it published. When it comes to selling yourself and your brand, a published book is something of a "big business card." After all, being a published author puts you in a distinguished group of people, much like having an advanced degree distinguishes you professionally from those who don't have one. And if you're blogging all the time anyway (and I just know you are ;-), why not pull it together into a book and make tons of money? Today I'll talk about the pros and cons of writing a book, why you should or shouldn't do it, what having a book makes possible for you (and what it doesn't), and whether it makes sense to publish it yourself or find a traditional publisher. It's Spring (or so the calendar says...), and that means change is in the air. Today I want to talk about your marketing methods. Most of us mompreneurs tend to fall into a habit of doing the same thing all the time. Perhaps we've chosen blogging as our major marketing platform. And we think that as long as we're blogging, we are doing the work that must be done to market our business. But if that's all you're doing, you're seriously missing out on a ton of other opportunities that could help catapult your business in front of your audience. So many of us mompreneurs decided that working from home was the answer to our prayers. After all, we need the freedom, flexibility and fulfillment that working in and office for someone else can't provide, right? But there can be a down side to that freedom and flexibility. We can lose sight of what it means to have a start time and an end time to our work hours each day. We can get caught up multi-tasking lots of house projects and work projects, and not really getting much done at all. And without a boss or a manager lording over us all the time, we can lose focus and spend a lot of time being really busy, but not doing work that matters most. Join me today as I share tips to help you make the most of your flexible work-at-home-job without sacrificing the productivity and focus you need to achieve your goals. There's no doubt about it: Women (and especially women with children) who attain high leadership positions in Corporate America are being watched like hawks these days. Sheryl Sandberg and Marissa Mayer are hot topics on most of the blogs I read these days. The choices they make for their businesses are, obviously, charting the path for their success (or failure). But the mompreneurs I'm talking to are more concerned with the choices these women leaders are making for themselves and their families. They're looking to these women to figure out what might be possible for themselves. Today I'll give my take on how these choices affect mompreneurs like us. We're all trying to squeeze more into our days, especially mom entrepreneurs. We strive to get more done in less time. But for many of us, this sounds great, but is hard to accomplish. What does it take to be more productive? And what's actually getting in our way of accomplishing things we know we need to do? I'll talk about the sneaky tricks we play on ourselves that sabotage our efforts to be more productive and run our small businesses (and our households) more efficiently.
