Breaking2, a documentary by Nike, chronicles the quest of three athletes to run a sub-2 hour marathon. Dr. Drew Brannon and Dr. Cory Shaffer discuss three important lessons from Breaking2 - why "software" becomes increasingly important as advantages from "hardware" level off, how the theory of marginal gains was applied (and how it can apply to your own life), and why defining your own success can produce joy in the face of "failure." Ep39: Alex Hutchinson - Pushing The Limits of Human Performance.Alex Hutchinson is one of the world's most highly respected authorities on the subject of endurance sports. With a PhD in Physics from Cambridge and a Master’s in Journalism from Columbia, his articles in Runner’s World, Outside Magazine, The Globe & Mail, are internationally acclaimed. His 2011 book 'Which Comes First, Cardio or Weights?' is quite simply a 'must have' for anyone who does exercise. It was and still is THE bible of myth-busting misconceptions still found in the exercise industry. In this episode of Runchatlive, we focus mainly on his 2018 book 'Endure: Mind, Body and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance', a New York Times best seller. The thrilling account of his involvement at Nike's Breaking2 project in 2017 is in itself enough of a reason to read it, and it has so much more. Using endless real life examples of elite endurance athletes, Hutchinson explains why our individual limits may be determined as much by our head and heart, as by our muscles. We also talk to Alex about being one of the speakers at Tom Goom's ‘Running Rehab, from Pain to Performance’ conference this April in London, along with Ian Griffiths, Claire Minshull and Chris Napier. With this line-up of speakers, the conference is destined to be a huge success and of huge value. If you have a second, do please consider leaving us a rating on Apple Podcasts / iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/runchatlive/id1446286174NEXT EPISODE:March 5th Thursday 8pm UK Time :* * * TOM GOOM 'The Running Physio' * * * Join us LIVE! ----------------------------------RCL CONFERENCE RECORDINGS & RUNCHATLIVE T-SHIRTSVideo recordings of all the presentations from the RCL International Running Conference 2019 can be purchased at www.runchatlive.com. This week we are welcoming fellow podcast host, running enthusiast and all around awesome dude Denny Krahe to the show! Denny is the host of the excellent running podcast "Diz Runs Radio" and through his journey has learned all sorts of lessons about the sport, both through being an athlete and talking to a wide range of runners. At this point, his show has over 735 episodes which is incredible and also makes Denny an unbelievably well informed runner. In fact, he may be the person who has spent the most time chatting about running I've ever met! (Over 735 hours of recorded run chats is impressive!) In this episode we get to flip the script on him and hear his story. How he went from a non-runner athletic trainer for his college track team to a casual runner to a marathoner who said he would never do an ultra to his first three 50ks! We also chat about his thoughts on Nike's Breaking2 project, what he's learned from the podcast, and how his journey using the Maffetone Method has made him a faster, stronger, injury free runner. Hope you guys enjoy and I truly would urge you to check out "Diz Runs Radio". No matter what kind of runner you are, Denny interviews such a wide variety of people that you will be able to find a subject that suits you.
