Denny Krahe is an ultra runner and coach who runs one of our favourite podcasts about the sport: Diz Runs. We first caught up with Denny just over a year ago, when we chatted to him about his own running career and his life as an injury prevention specialist. With changes on the way at Diz Runs, we thought it was a good time to talk to Denny again and to see how he is getting on with some of his running goals. We also chewed the fat over some of the big issues in the running world, including the seemingly increasing numbers of people cheating in races and just how far he thinks the human body will allow endurance athletes to go...   ---------------------------------- You can learn more about Denny Krahe, his coaching, blog and podcast on http://www.dizruns.com/ Listen to our November 2023 chat with Denny on the Running Tales Podcast here: https://runningtales.podbean.com/e/denny-krehe-running-coach-injury-expert-and-podcaster-at-diz-runs/

I talk to other people every week on this podcast, about fitness and faith. This episode, you'll get to hear a lot about my journey of running and walk with God. (2:53) In Spring of 2020, three years ago, veteran podcast host Denny Krahe had me on his show, and vice versa (links to both below). He got me to open up about my favorite running/race distance, the ins and outs of my training for marathons. (15:10) In this conversation with Denny aka Diz, I also talk about how I got started in running and eventually moved to the challenge of trying to run a marathon (26.2 miles) in all 50 states. Fun way to see the world! (30:32) Our chat came right in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, so Denny asked me about finding ways to still exercise while "social distancing" and also virtual races like CRAW (he and I were on the same team for a virtual race around the world). (36:29) We close that chat with the origins of my "Run The Race" podcast, which was 1 year old at that point, and what I continue to learn from my guests like Denny - who talked about injury prevention, run training at more on my pod. Here's that episode, also from 3 years ago: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/42-helping-you-prevent-injuries-as-we-run-diz-world/id1485963489?i=1000494802598. And make sure to check out the Diz Runs podcast and website, which has close to an amazing 1200 episodes now (mine is #888): https://www.dizruns.com/podcast/. I close this pod in prayer. Running Tales spoke to him to garner some top tips on how to improve your running while staying injury free. But that's not all Denny does. Running on Optimism

In today's episode I speak with Denny Krahe, run coach and host of the podcast DizRuns Radio. Denny, I think like a lot of runners I've spoken to, kind of fell into running – or in his case, stumbled through a Disney marathon in 2012 incredibly under-trained swearing he would never do that again. He did find his way back to running and has made it his full-time job. Born and raised in Michigan, Denny made his way to Florida, where he calls home now with his wife and daughter, for college. From there he pursued his graduate degree in Tennessee where he was the athletic trainer. He would watch his athletes do their track workouts and that was when he became more interested in running. He would run some laps in between meets or between training sessions. He realized that he actually enjoyed running, though he didn't slap the “runner” label on himself until much later. He decided in 2012, after moving back to Florida, to sign up for the Disney Marathon because: why not? What he learned quickly during that race was how much he didn't know about marathon running – or at least not yet. Denny's first marathon story is one of my favorites because of its honesty and relatability so I won't spoil it for anyone, you'll just have to listen. Clearly, Denny has learned a lot since then and continues to learn and grow has his career as a coach progresses. He is still working on his “Road to 50” in hopes of running a marathon in each of the 50 states. Check out www.dizruns.comfor more on Denny's coaching and to listen to DizRuns Radio. In the pilot ultra episode of the PRP, Adam welcomes fellow running podcast host and running coach Denny Krahe who has been preparing for the Colt 45 Trail Run on November 20th, 2021. Denny tours listeners down the road of his career; from athletic trainer at Middle Tennessee State University jogging around college campuses while on away trips, to independent traveling physical therapist, to running podcast host, to full fledged running coach and mentor. Denny breaks down his slow and steady approach and discusses how to avoid playing the comparison game when growing your running community, whether it be in person or virtual. If you really want to build a community that can help foster long term growth and appreciation for the sport, staying true to what serves you and not measuring yourself up against others is absolutely vital. Kate Morgan, doyenne mom of three and fellow runner joins the show as guest host and explains why the solitary nature of running is such an important wellness factor in her life. The self proclaimed "Running Angel on Denny's Shoulder" shares her keen strategy of how she patiently peer pressured Denny, one step at a time, into joining her at this race without him really knowing it. The three discuss goals for the race, and the PRP listenership gets its first taste into a more "ultra-based" mindset towards tackling races: go with the flow, play what the day deals you by ear and see what can unfold after settling in for the first few hours. Although both Denny and Kate have an admiral amount of experience under their belt, this 45 mile attempt will be a career distance max for both of them. Will the two devise a plan to keep their feet dry as they trudge through a potential Florida swamp trail? Ummm, is having to watch out for alligators really a thing when ultra running in Florida?!? What is Denny's secret pre race dessert? What color bananas does Kate like to eat? What in tarnation is the Circumpolar Race Around the World?! What's the final verdict, is Kate the running angel or running devil on Denny's shoulder?! Answers to all of these juicy questions and more in this smooth sailing episode of the PRP. Whether you're focused on your faith, a new or experienced runner, or getting fit in other ways, I hope you'll subscribe to this podcast. The guest this week is someone that will inspire you to "Take The Next Step" and "Be Ready on Race Day" - the title of his book. I just recently competed in an in-person running relay, but as you know, I'm also part of a 12-16 month virtual event called CRAW (Circumpolar Race Around the World). Our 10 person team "We Run Diz World" includes the man who I'm chatting with for this episode, the host of popular running podcast Diz Runs Radio with more than 1 million plays. (3:51) After a brief introduction, Denny Krahe - the Chief Everything Officer (CEO) of DizRuns.com - and I talk about meeting at the very rainy Marine Corps Marathon last year, before COVID hit. What's his favorite race distance to run and why? (7:17) He answers that and my "Fast Four" where we learn this husband/father's inspirational mantra and his weekly running routine. (14:20) Injury prevention is a hot topic for all of us, especially athletes. Denny gives us some pro advice as a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS): Start slow and gradual, help your body adapt to pounding and pain, recover, don't compare yourself to others. This podcast host is the one answering the questions this time. (19:30) Denny talks about the origin of "Diz Runs" which now has nearly 900 episodes and 1.1 million plays in 6+ years, and how he balances the podcast with his life. (23:50) He also has a goal, like me, of running a marathon in all 50 states. (26:55) With most races canceled because of the coronavirus, what's the point of virtual ones? Denny says they can motivate us, hold us accountable, even help us compete in a "team sport." One example is CRAW, for which our team will run or walk 35,000 miles or 50,000 km, learning about different countries and cultures. Our 10-person crew knocked out about 3,000 miles in the first 6 weeks. Denny is also an author. (34:28) Check out his book "Be Ready on Race Day" which he previews as a way to write your own custom training plan instead of the one-size-fits-all ones. (38:30) This running coach also gives some great insight into the benefits of easy running and training your aerobic base, as opposed to "No pain, no gain." Usain Bolt gets better as the race goes, so can you. (44:13) We close with what's next for Denny, from a potential 50K, lots of miles for CRAW, and a future book about marathons and metaphors. (48:44) The final segments are "Food for Thought" where we learn how waffles can make you better at running, plus a nun's treadmill marathon, then the "Parting Gift" is the Bible verse that inspired the name of this podcast. Thanks for listening! Please share it with your friends using #RunTheRacePodcast. Also, write a quick review about it. For more info, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.

The coaches spend the first part of the podcast discussing the disastrous rain at the Marine Corps Marathon today before touching on the wildfires in California (if you are affected, please let us know!) and remind their clients that personal safety is PARAMOUNT and it does not make you a weenie. Period. This leads to an old post of Coach MK's about DNFing and DNSing, two decisions that are terribly difficult to make and don't get enough credit. It's harder to tap out, even when it's the right choice, because we only celebrate participation when it is AGAINST ALL ODDS as well as common sense.  Finally, Coach MK talks about Tillie the Terrible Swede, the OG ultraracer, who paved the way for Maggie Guterl to be ignored this week. Maggie and Camille Herron (to name a few) are redefining human capacity in ways that are meaningful to MK and her daughters in ways the broken two-hour marathon barrier never could.     Runner, Interrupted #weeklywins - self care! I went to the local coffee shop for an hour before work Friday and bought fancy coffee and wrote in my journal. It felt so good to reward myself this way after a tough week. Making it a priority now a few times a month. #weeklywins Rocking my Halloween socks at work and my Coach MK costume Also VOLUNTEERING AT MCM! You rock, they needed it!   ReBuild I am now running a lot of hills (FUCKING hills). Very steep up and downs that turn shorter runs into hill repeats every time. About 15 years ago I had a coach give suggestions about hills but I only remember the going up advice. (Lock cage, increase cadence) I vaguely remember something about sitting back when going down hills? Can you give some tips on physical technique for hills? Thank you! In a nutshell, pretend you are riding a unicycle! So in a recent checkup, my OB/GYN said that dual-leg strength moves that put extra pressure on the abdomen can make pelvic floor issues worse. I don’t remember if his source was a study or a book. He said old school sit-ups, Russian twists, squats and planks were all problematic. That single-leg staggered stance moves were better. My basic response was, “What the hell? You’ve got to be kidding me?!?!” What say the coaches? -Ann from TX That is correct! Most strength programs tend to be all-over body workouts, and a move like a Russian Twist is fantastic and to do it correctly you need to use a lot of muscles. Our strength is functional first.   Maintain Race Shoutouts: Shara Alpern did the MC 10K, and Laura Zale and Denny Krahe did MCM! And Tamara did her WC-50 Ultra Trail Marathon! Can you talk a little bit about tips/tricks, what to look for when choosing a therapist?  Who’s available and affordable? Do they listen? If they listen, do they validate? What kind of therapy do they do? EMDR (Coach MK on reliving trauma and triggers) Finding someone who is respectful of boundaries  I'm eyeing a 50k at the end of February (I live in the desert Southwest). What do you think about me using the marathon ramp plan to train for that? Should I just increase the distance of a few of the long runs (and train on trails, of course) Possible! We will think about extensions that need to be made! Terrain MATTERS - you need some specific skills. Follow up and tell us what race this is! Antelope Canyon? Also, check this out...famous ultramarathon elevation compared to Boston Marathon elevation. LOL!! I have a tightness in my left glute/upper hamstring (I think this is the location, anyway) and so did a run in the pool instead of my regular Sunday workout. (My Sunday is the plan's Friday). My question is this: what is your opinion on doing a pool run instead of on land/treadmill on a fairly regular basis for the Friday run? Love it! As long as we don’t have a race coming up where we care about performance - if we are here for fitness then SHOOT YEAH. I am going to try my first EAT this week. I've never done it before and am wondering what's the best way to figure out average pace for each of the segments? Should I be hitting my lap button after every lap or after the 5 laps at each heart rate level? Do I need to run in lane 1 of the track for it to be accurate? (I'm not very familiar with how the track markings work). And one more question- can I seriously hit 180 bpm?! What if my heart rate doesn't go that high? Isn't it limited by age? (Total newbie to this stuff) Thanks! Links to our EAT content! Please miss, can we have a reminder of the desk series strength circuits. Because we want MORE ( that we can do at the office) and our butts and legs are feeling it on the trails. Thank you as always Karen Sutton ❤️

This week we are welcoming fellow podcast host, running enthusiast and all around awesome dude Denny Krahe to the show! Denny is the host of the excellent running podcast "Diz Runs Radio" and through his journey has learned all sorts of lessons about the sport, both through being an athlete and talking to a wide range of runners. At this point, his show has over 735 episodes which is incredible and also makes Denny an unbelievably well informed runner. In fact, he may be the person who has spent the most time chatting about running I've ever met! (Over 735 hours of recorded run chats is impressive!) In this episode we get to flip the script on him and hear his story. How he went from a non-runner athletic trainer for his college track team to a casual runner to a marathoner who said he would never do an ultra to his first three 50ks! We also chat about his thoughts on Nike's Breaking2 project, what he's learned from the podcast, and how his journey using the Maffetone Method has made him a faster, stronger, injury free runner. Hope you guys enjoy and I truly would urge you to check out "Diz Runs Radio". I thought I would republish this episode from last winter on December 22, 2016 because with the 2018 Garden Goals Challenge and I’ve been running at the gym, and I think I’m gonna sign up for the Missoula 1/2 marathon this summer I thought it would be a good interview to replay. Plus I love Denny’s vermiculture advice! I’m super excited because I am going back to interview my friend  from Podcaster’s Paradise in episode #1 that he had to record back then, I was listening earlier but it’s pretty fun, and still full of golden seeds… one thing I was gonna tell listeners if you want to go back and listen to it I think you have to go to my website and download it, it’s not available on iTunes anymore…. (http://www.dizruns.com/) dizruns.com (http://dizruns.com) Today, anyway I am here to talk with Denny Krahe from central Florida, who is a runner, and his emails inspire me, one of the few still in my inbox, and regularly, even though I get to run enough, and I recently found out a lot of listeners are in Florida! He has so many golden seeds to share with everyone. Millennial Rockstar Are you a millennial? I think technically, I’m in the gray area, if you will, my birthday is in 1982. idk, maybe I’m trying to pick the best of both worlds. if idk re 3-4 …. blend of most positive aspects of you a and gen x… I always love millennials and millennial another one of those rockstar your… … oh well if… I think millennials are rocking this world, I love millennials, I know they get a bad rap and the ones If yu paint with a borad enough brush over things… you’ll find good, If you looking for the good in millennials … you there’s plenty of that. If you’re looking for good you’ll find people That’s me, I always find the good in people, I’m like the eternal optimist! Tell us a little about yourself. In Central Florida, live in basically Lakeland between Tampa and Orlando I grew up in Northern Michigan… right in my neck of the woods familiar with winters, moved down here for college on the gardening side, it’s been an adjustment, because I’m used to 4 seasons, I’m not used to… literally I’m picking tomatoes, the 18th of December… obviously growing up in Northern literally you don’t do that, and so Michigan  when to plant things is an adjustment, cold weather… four season landscaping down here… things are quite a bit different On the non-gardening side I like to run, that’s my outlet, and that, that’s what my podcast is all about is all about, overall being healthy, fitness and activity and nutrition… food wise nothing tastes better then something you pick within the hour, ultimate for fresh food and healthy living… Isn’t your degree in nutrition? Do yo knowing to talk a little about growing your own food and eating… my degree in athletic training… injury prevention/recovery. definitely talk about nutrition continuing education… mostly ex recertification stuff exclusively been nutrition based, food is medicine type of thing… yeah, it’s I don’t want to paint industrial ag, big ag with a completely bad sense there is something to be said about growing your own, that pride that you have! Also, you pick it when it’s fresh, you can control what’s on it, can control what pesticides…  want or not the chemicals or sprays are bad for us or not, they might not be bad, but I don’t think they can be good I’d rather know, I like to have that ownership, and know what’s going on… Im of the belief that it doesn’t et much healthier when you grow it and whether pick it and your there throughout the whole process even if it’s in the mind… healthier and throughout…... In episode 38 of the Final Surge Podcast we are joined by Denny Krahe who is a coach and best known for his running podcast called Diz Runs. Denny has almost 400 episodes of his podcast and releases three a week. We will talk to him about his first ultra run he did recently, his coaching and his new upcoming book Be Ready on Race Day. How did you get your start with running? You made the transition from not being a runner until after college to coaching. How did that transition happen? At what point in this journey did the DizRuns podcast start? What are some of the best stories that you remember from your podcast? Recently you made the jump to ultras and did your first ultra trail run, what was that like? You have done a lot of marathons, but here you get to 26.2, and you had another 10k to go. How did it feel at the 26.2 mark? What were the big differences in your training leading up to the ultra? What about fueling, how did your fueling change running the ultra vs. what you were used to in marathons? What lessons did you learn from the ultra? What would you change next time? You have a background in exercise science and talk a lot about injuries on your podcast Q&A episodes. What are the most common issues you see with the athletes you work with? What are the strength and core routines you are using with your athletes to keep them healthy and for injury prevention? You do a lot of coaching when someone comes to you for coaching where do you find them to most often be at? Contact Info Website: www.DizRuns.com Podcast: DizRuns Social Media: @DizRuns Most Influential Person Hal Elrod (Author of The Miracle Morning) Effect on Emotions It helps me keep an even keel. I like to think that I'm a pretty even-keeled guy most of the time but like with anybody there are certain times when you get fired up or upset. I recognize it in myself very quickly. I take a couple of breaths and step away from the situation if necessary and allow things to settle back down. I'm thankful that I have that kind of personality. Thoughts on Breathing There's no question in my mind that the act of breathing and focusing on deep breaths; breathe in deep and slow on the exhale, it just helps to calm the body. I know there's science that supports that and what it does for the blood pressure. I just feel it. Whether it's before I record an interview, I just take a couple of breaths to calm my thoughts and settle my nerves. Or maybe before a race or when I'm frustrated because the baby's acting up. A couple of breaths does wonders for me. Suggested Resources Book: Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod App: Habitica (A gamified way of keeping track of to-do lists) Advice for Newbie With folks that are thinking about starting to run but don't know where to begin, I think that starting is key. Don't compare yourself to folks who have been doing it for a long time. That was a big hurdle for me, was the idea, if I'm going to meditate, so that means I have to sit here for 20 minutes, for 30 minutes, for 60 minutes and not think about anything. Point blank, I don't think that I could do that without my mind just wandering, going crazy and having all kinds of different thoughts. If I'm supposed to be quiet in my mind, how am I going to just sit here for an hour? It's not something that I can do. Then you realize that those folks who are doing that have probably been meditating for twenty years, for thirty years, for their entire lives. No wonder they're so disciplined and able to do that. It doesn't make any sense to try to compare myself with those type of folks. Five minutes, that's something I can attempt to do, then I can bump it up to ten minutes. That idea of start small and when you fail, don't beat yourself up for it. If I miss a day, it's not the end of the world. When I have a day where I start out trying to meditate and my mind wanders and I think, man, I only had a quiet mind for a minute and a half, that's ok. We'll try again tomorrow. Don't expect yourself to be perfect and be ok when you're not perfect.

Rosenthal Norman E. Rosenthal is a world-renowned psychiatrist, public speaker, and best-selling author who is known for his innovative research and inspirational writings. Kari interviews him this week about transcendental meditation, mindfulness, SAD, and much more! Pleate note: Always consult your physician. The following interview is not intended to replace the advice of your physician or medical care provider. Rosenthal is currently Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine and is listed as one of the best doctors in America. He is a highly cited researcher who has written over 200 scholarly articles, and authored or co-authored eight popular books. These include Winter Blues, the New York Times bestseller Transcendence: Healing and Transformation Through Transcendental Meditation, and the Los Angeles Times bestseller The Gift of Adversity. Rosenthal has conducted numerous clinical trials of medications and alternative treatments, such as transcendental meditation for psychiatric disorders, and the treatment of depression with Botox. He is the TRLS June Book Club author, for his book, Super Mind: How to Boost Performance and Live a Richer and Happier Life Through Transcendental Meditation. Rosenthal has SAD himself and talks about his experiences with the disorder. He talks a bit about the signs/symptoms of SAD versus when you have the “winter blues.” When meditating, you get fluxes of alpha waves, especially in the frontal areas of the brain, that are soothing. Rosenthal talks about brain coherence, which means different parts of the brain experience the same wavelengths at the same time. This is associated with the brain collaborating and being more efficient. He explains the difference between mindfulness and medita Kari talks about the “Jon Kabat-Zinn” way of meditation and Deepak Chopra and Oprah's meditation class. Kari talks about mindfulness stress-based reduction training. Transcendental meditation can help in the following ways: connecting body and mind, building a better brain, being in the zone, having internal growth, asking yourself, “Who do I want to be?”, being engaged with relationships or work, accepting losses, and so on. Rosenthal points out two particular chapters: Meditate and Grow Rich and Meditate and Grow Happy. Kari mentions one story in Transcendence: Healing and Transformation Through Transcendental Meditation with Ray Dalio. They discuss sleep and transcendental meditation. He speaks to practicing transcendental meditation and running. During transcendental meditation, according to Rosenthal, the brain delivers you gifts from your subconscious. Rosenthal speaks to how parts of the government/the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are using transcendental meditation. Kari talks about finding her “Cameron Diaz” moment of sorts while recording The Running Lifestyle Camp ad. Erica gives recommendations that she has for runners who are looking to start (after you get to decide what a runner means to you). Hear what being a runner means to Kari. Erica offers tips for getting off the couch and starting ru Kari mentions “The Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, And Rebel: Our Four Tendencies” (Episode 120). Serena Marie, RD Serena Marie, RD, talks about the nutritional benefits of eating potato skins (no, not the appetizer!). The benefit to eating potato skins is the fiber that they contain. They are mostly a source of insoluble fiber. Serena reviews the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber. She also defines what a “standard American diet” looks like. When transitioning from a standard American diet to a more nutrient-rich diet, many people have issues increasing their fiber intake. As you increase vegetables, steam them or chop them up finely to break down the cellulose/fiber to help digest them with less intolerance. Gratitude Jar (Woot! Woot!) Kari is grateful for is a new product at Trader Joe's called parsnip chips. They are so good that they might be a trigger food, but thankfully they only have a few ingredients! Serena is grateful for kettlebells. Follow Serena on Periscope @SerenaMarieRD to check them out! Next week, Kari talks all about the post-race runner's' high. Denny Krahe Running Man Denny Krahe Running Man has been a sports fan his entire life. Whatever the season was, Denny was playing that sport. No matter what sport he was playing he was going to be a professional baseball, basketball or football. Around the age of 12 or so, Denny came to a realization that playing professional sports may not have been a realistic dream. Share on Twitter He did still want to be around sports because he had a passion for sports. As he grew older and made the decision to go to college, he ended up attending the athletic training program at Florida Southern College. His goal was to work for a professional hockey team. THAT'S AWESOME! Denny moved from Michigan to Florida to go to school and he jokingly mentioned that was probably one of the smartest moves he could have made because hockey isn't exactly big in Florida. Denny met his wife and started a personal training business. Although he enjoyed the training business and got along great with his clients, it just didn't scratch his itch for wanting to be more involved in sports. He has always enjoyed running, but didn't really know how to work in the running industry so he made it up himself. He started a blog and then eventually, a podcast. Get ready to get fired up and laugh a lot when Ellen Rohr, a business coach and public speaker, tells us about the roller coaster of her running journey. Ellen shares how running has “changed over the years” and how her running has evolved. Serena Marie, RD, dives in deep to share what fructose is, what are some myths around it, and recommends how much fructose to have in a day. Serena and I talk about our training for the Chicago, NYC, and Philadelphia marathons and the amazing progress we're making when it comes to fundraising for Action for Healthy Kids. If you'd like to find out 11 strategies to live the running lifestyle, please head over to therunninglifestyle.com/join and find out. :-) If you have any shopping coming up, an easy way to support the show without paying a dime is to shop through our Amazon store here. Ellen address: ·         How to schedule your time so you can run ·         How to go about plan free days and why ·         When and why she actually liked running ·         How running kept her “straight" in college ·         How her body teaches her so much ·         Why her first marathon was “made up” ·         What she told her sister to encourage her to run a race and how Ellen ended up not telling the truth ·         Why Ellen is taking on two marathons in a year when she is 55 years The biggest take away from the first part of Ellen's discussion (part two going live next week) is that if you don't plan your time, then someone else will do it for you. A lot of times we think we need to be somewhere, when we really don't. Do what feels right to you and is best for your mind, body and spirit. As Runner of the Week (and she was also the featured guest), Ellen is going to receive Sport Suds laundry detergent, which is free from harsh chemicals and dyes, to wash her clothes. We know that Ellen is usually able to get herself out the door to run, but if “stinky” clothes was ever an excuse, then Sport Suds would clean that excuse (get it? ;-)) away. Listeners of the Running Lifestyle Show receive a 15% discount when using the code “RUNLIFE” at check out at www.sportsuds.com. Serena shares: ·         What consuming high amounts of sugar can lead to ·         What is fructose ·         Why agave nectar should be avoided ·         What is leptin and why it is good ·         How fructose gets absorbed and how it doesn't spikes insulin ·         How fructose gets metabolized  ·         How your liver becomes fatty ·         What is Non alcoholic fatty liver disease  ·         What to remember about fruit ·         Why the ideal threshold of 20-50 grams of fructose is ideal ·         Why it's important to read the ingredient list and how the list can change over time ·         Why eating non GMO soy is ideal when possible ·         Why Serena isn't a fan of soy lethicin  ·         Why rice is not that problematic of a carb when putting in long miles ·         Serena's favorite dried fruit and my favorite dried fruit The big take away????? You can get liver disease from over doing it on the sugar. Also, a few servings of fruit is no big deal, but there is a limit. The fact that there is no leptin in fruit is a “well that makes sense” moment because whenever I eat fruit as a snack, I am STILL hungry.  What is a great thing to pair with fruit you may be asking? How about Energy Bits, which by the way, you can get a 25% discount when you type in “RUNLIFE” at Energybits.com. Serena and I discuss my “CRAY CRAY” 23 mile run around the Port Orleans Riverside Hotel at Disney World and how I ran with the gators (literally). Thank you to Tracy Slayton and Denny Krahe from Diz Runs podcast for running with me in the middle of the night. Serena had a nice shorter training run in the Hamptons and looks forward to running in Jersey over the holiday weekend, while I'll be running in Vermont. The product that saved me from shafing (which started at mile 7 of 23) was Chamois Butt'r.   Thank YOU, thank YOU to all of the people who donated in August to help Team Kari and Serena run NYC and Chicago for Action for Healthy Kids. It’s tough, but rewarding. 51:40 – Your body can cope, it’s just your mind that has to realize that and stick with it. 54:15 – When hunting for guests, look for someone who still handles their own Twitter account! 54:51 – Don’t go into your interviews with an agenda or a plan, just see where the conversation goes. 01:01 – 13 It’s great to have goals, but don’t let them control you. 01:05 – 58 For more information, head to www.DizRuns.com or follow Denny on Twitter: @DizRuns   FULL SHOW NOTES: http://www.podcastjunkies.com/32★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Dive in head first or stop dipping your foot into the pool. Guys, at some point or another, EVERY entrepreneur takes a risk. I believe a synonym of entrepreneur is risk-taker but that's a conversation for another day.Denny Krahe had a choice, he could stay in his job, run his business on the side and never allow it to grow. OR, he could quit his job and focus on building his business. Which one do you think he chose? Of course he took the risk. Denny takes us through his journey and literally has some incredible pieces of advice that I'll be using for my quote of the day photos. You are going to love this episode.
