Most of us follow an unintentional career path. People, events, dreams, and serendipity guide us unintentionally. It’s fascinating to reflect how we got to our current situation. Note: Jeff’s sound quality is just okay due to a recording experiment.
It’s time for another listener pick! Today we’re doing the Luc Besson sci-fi-action-comedy from 1997, The Fifth Element, which has been requested multiple times. In this densely packed, overstimulating 127 minutes, we’re shot into the 23rd century where Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich have the fate of the world in their hands. Nobody talks to himself on film like Bruce, and just like in Diehard, his character helps us feel grounded in this strange, scary world where a Supreme Being is the only hope to save humankind every 5,000 years and cruise ships are still considered a luxury vacation. So, in the words of Ruby Rhod, we hope you Super Green your face off with this episode. Did we use that right? [Editor’s Note: Jeff apologizes for saying Ruby ROAD instead of Ruby ROD. Hope you’re not triggered. Grandpa will turn up his ear trumpets next time.]
In this episode, Mark Baratto sits down with Master Framer, Jeff Rodriguez. Jeff is the co-owner of DE LA Gallery, located in Key West, FL and Charleston, SC, AND the co-owner of Art Warehouse, located in Key West. I visited Jeff at his Key West gallery where we talked about his wildly talented partner, photographer/artist Jorge de la Torriente, how they met, and how they turned a dream into a thriving business. This episode was recorded on the 3rd of March, right before the shut down for COVID-19 began. NOTE - Jeff and I recorded an intro on this episode that was recorded on Thursday, April 30th, to talk about the status of both galleries and how he is offering additional sources of income for digital photographers out there. More on DE LA Gallery Website: https://www.delagallery.com Intagram: https://www.instagram.com/delagallery/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DeLaGallery/ WHO WE ARE We’re photographer/artist Jorge de la Torriente and master framer Jeffrey Rodriguez. We started out as friends and now we are family. We specialize in large format coastal, seaside, & landscape fine art photography. We print and frame all of the images in-house, where Jorge's singular artistic vision + Jeffrey’s precision, expert craftsmanship and attention to detail combine to make each piece one of a kind. We specialize in serving new and seasoned collectors looking for one-of-a-kind, museum-quality, and large format fine art photography through our Key West gallery and our online home. WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT We’re not a collective run by artists or a traditional art gallery. As a self-represented artist with my own gallery, you’ll enjoy a tailored buying experience because you are buying directly from the artist. We get to know our collectors individually. Which allows us to provide a highly customized art buying experience, that is designed to meet your specific needs as a collector. We use the latest in printing, framing techniques and technology to produce everything in house. This allows us to produce a museum quality finished piece that very few can reproduce. Our finished pieces are all individually made to order, and we offer lots of flexibility in customizing the art to fit your need. If you’re in town, we invite you to visit us in person. We’re located across from the historic La Concha Hotel on Duval St. Come in, relax and enjoy the calming visions of the Florida Keys and surrounding areas. Let us help you find that special piece that’s meant to be in your collection. If you’re shopping with us online, we invite you to explore our site. In this week's episode of Off Panel, writer Jeff Loveness joins the show to chat about comedy and writing and his BOOM! series Strange Skies Over East Berlin. Loveness discusses his comic origins, how reading comics affected his comedy and storytelling, why he chooses to write comics, how situation changes the way we engage with stories, how comedy prepared him for comics, the origins of Strange Skies Over East Berlin, the impact of his collaborators, the title's amazing covers, learning to write comics, the loss of privacy, balancing comedy and drama, and more. Note: Jeff's audio quality starts a little low, but it picks up a couple minutes in.
At LeadingAgile we believe that the ability to realize the benefits of an Agile approach begins with there core things: stable teams, a well-formed backlog, and the ability to consistently deliver working tested software. In this episode of SoundNotes, LeadingAgile Managing Consultant, Jeff Howey, spends time talking with Dave about what a “well-formed backlog” actually is. Jeff and Dave discuss characteristics of a well-formed backlog, how you know if you’ve got one and why that's so important. Along the way, they also explore the differences between Epics, Features, Themes, and Stories and how those terms might be used to break down all the work that led up to Marvel’s new film “Avengers: End Game”. Note: Jeff recommends listening to the podcast at 1.5 normal speed. This will allow you to get through the podcast quicker, but the pace should still be okay for most listeners. I'm back with an all new show this week! Come with me as I complete a request from quite a few people, among them StrangeTikiGod from the DPN forums, as I go to MuppetVision 3D. Note: Jeff called "dibs" on the Muppet Pre-show, so this week I'm just playing the actual Show, and not the pre-show. Catch that on an upcoming episode of the Meandering Mouse Podcast! After Muppetvision is perhaps the funniest moment in DPN History! Jeff from Houston meets Squirty The Snowman over at Winter Summerland Miniature Golf. The potty-mouthed women that you hear are both the Vacation Fiance and the Meandering Minnie, and SamZotto makes an appearance as well! I totally set Jeff up, and he took it hook line and sinker! In between everything, are segments from New York Street at the Disney-MGM Studios (where I discover that it's a horrible place to record...) and the beach at Disney's Polynesian Resort! Have fun!
