The Trump administration's efforts to downsize the federal government continue, with both personnel and programs being cut at the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Social Security Administration. Meanwhile, the fight over cuts to the Medicaid program for those with low incomes heats up, as Republicans worry that more of their voters than ever before are Medicaid beneficiaries. Alice Miranda Ollstein of Politico, Shefali Luthra of The 19th, and Anna Edney of Bloomberg News join KFF Health News' Julie Rovner to discuss these stories and more. Also this week, Rovner interviews Jeff Grant, who recently retired from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services after 41 years in government service. Plus, for “extra credit,” the panelists suggest health policy stories they read this week they think you should read, too: Julie Rovner: NBC News' “‘You Lose All Hope': Federal Workers Gripped by Mental Health Distress Amid Trump Cuts,” by Natasha Korecki. My friend Jack Brewster and I decided to do our annual Best TV episode early this year to beat the rush of the holidays. In some ways it felt like an off year in TV, but in others maybe I just didn't have AppleTV+. I would like to offer an early apology for my whacked out list. Haha I decided to rank shows by what I thought about the most and not necessarily their quality. I'm not a professional critic. Thankfully Jack was there to keep the standards high. It was fun conversation and maybe we talked about some of your favorites as well. Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!
Hey everyone! I dusted off the trusty old podcast to share a LONG conversation with my Mossy Stones bandmate Joshua Irwin about the making of our recent 2nd album Crafted Out of Paperclips. We put it together despite a good deal of obstacles, including Josh becoming a father for the third time a couple weeks after the album came out. One could say the album itself was... *crafted out of paperclips* (pause for applause). If you would like to listen to the songs we talk about here (in possibly boring detail) they are available NOW on your streaming service of choice. Just search for "Mossy Stones". You know how to do that! Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!

It's hard to imagine former executives, investment fraudsters, and insider traders gathering for weekly support meetings. When I first heard about a support group for white-collar criminals, I was skeptical. It sounded like an SNL sketch: former hedge fund managers, insider traders, and embezzlers sitting in a circle, sharing their woes. However, Jeff Grant, the founder of the White Collar Support Group, doesn't see it that way. After serving time for his crimes, Grant emerged with a mission—to help others like him rebuild their lives, one meeting at a time. “I was lost,” he admits. After his release from prison, Grant realized there was no blueprint for people like him to re-enter society. That's why he founded the White Collar Support Group, a space for those prosecuted for financial crimes to navigate life after prison. Learn more about your ad choices. Let's Think About "How The Devil Ain't The Only Liar!" The Bible has been interpreted repeatedly, causing misunderstandings and leading to the preaching of a doctrine that was never meant to be preached in a way that causes others to misunderstand God's true glory. We discuss his book "How the devil ain't the only liar." Pastor Jeff breaks down many misconceptions, such as holidays, baptism, and being saved repeatedly. So many other great points will keep you thinking and hopefully provide you with peace, as it did me.

Grant and I served out our entire enlistment together, from boot camp in summer of 1993 to honorable discharge from active duty in 1997. We discuss our exploits at length in this episode. Grant would later rejoin the USMC reserves, serving in the air wing and a stinger missile unit, deploying to Iraq. Today, Jeff is a family man living down in Florida. He works for Amazon and remains active in a number of veteran organizations where he puts to use his JJDIDTIEBUCKLE to continue to make a difference. Another great conversation with a 1/6 hard dick. Loved it!
It takes about 3 hours to drive from Greenwich, Connecticut to the Federal Correctional Institution, Allenwood Low in Pennsylvania. Jeffery D. Grant knows this because he took that drive on an Easter Sunday in 2006. A lawyer whose life has taken a wrong turn on the road to addiction, Jeff Grant left the upscale life he had cultivated in Connecticut to enter what would be his new home for the duration of his 18-month Federal criminal sentence. The story of his rise, fall, and redemption is recounted in an article by Evan Osnos in The New Yorker. Jeff Grant has also been featured in Forbes, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Greenwich Magazine, and Business Insider. Jeff was released from custody in 2007 and was able to recover from addiction, obtain a divinity degree, start a law firm, and start a number of non-profit support groups focused on reentry to society in support of defendants and their families. Innovation comes in many areas and compliance professionals need to not only be ready for it but also embrace it. Today, I visited Jeff Grant, a compassionate leader and the founder of a white collar support group, a platform dedicated to assisting individuals prosecuted for white collar crimes and their families. Jeff's perspective on the importance of such support groups is shaped by his extensive experience going through the full white collar criminal experience, including jail, disbarment, release, and recovery. He has organized over 400 meetings, creating a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and challenges. Jeff views these groups as a vital resource, filling a significant gap in the criminal justice system by providing knowledge, empathy, and compassion to those who have been isolated and stigmatized. His advocacy for the rights and leniency of individuals prosecuted for white collar crimes is driven by his desire to bring their complex human tragedies to light and promote noncustodial sentences for low-level and nonviolent crimes. Through his work, Jeff continues to expand the impact of these support groups, viewing them as a lifeline for those navigating the challenges of white collar crimes. Today's interview is Jeff Grant. Over the years, we've spoken to Jeff on this podcast a few times, first back in 2014, then in 2019, and now in 2023. And each time we check in, Jeff seems to be doing something new and awesome. From running a record label and making music with his band Full Sun, to opening a group of coffee shops, hopscotch coffee, in Bloomington, Indiana where he has lived for the past decade, to now, becoming a parent, starting to make and show his visual art, opening a new restaurant, as well as playing in a new band, The Barbed Wires... Jeff is one of those folks that keeps evolving and finding new ways to bring cool things into the world. So these check ins are a blast for me, to get to learn what he is up to. I hope you find it interesting as well.
What could be the keys to a blissful marriage? Well, thankfully, I had Pastor Jeff on my show, and we had the pleasure of discussing this significant topic and sharing stories of our faith and our overall love for our Lord. Please tune in and hear this great conversation.
Over Thanksgiving break my niece Kenzie came back on the podcast for the 3rd time (see also: episodes 23 & 83). This was an unplanned and unfocused conversation but we hit many important topics including high school, TikTok, ASMR, Magic 8 Balls, Gilmore Girls, and so much more. And keep your ears peeled for a surprise guest no one will see coming! Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!
Congratulations! Christmas has come early. Clear your schedule, dump your significant other, and listen to my friend Jack and I once again slowly and methodically go through our top 10 TV shows of the year. How many will end up on both of our lists? Is there any hope for Suits? Who would win in a fight between Succession and The Bear? And most importantly: how do these guys have this much time to talk about TV shows? Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, & Google Play Music. My friend Jack and I got together to record this year's Top 10 TV Shows episode (coming later this week) and thought it'd be fun to quickly run through some movies we also enjoyed before recording that one. I recently started a new songwriting project/band with my friend Joshua Irwin (Mossy Stones) and we just put out our first 10-song album, Luzita (NOW STREAMING EVERYWHERE). In this episode we dove DEEP into the writing and recording of the album during my recent week-long visit to where he lives in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The original plan was to record an EP of hymns Josh and his son Grady had been performing, but then we played around with writing a song, which turned into 2 songs, then 6, then 8, then 10. You know how it goes. If you've ever wanted to hear about how a song was written and then listen to the writers as they tediously continue talking about the same song for an additional 20 minutes beyond that, THIS IS FOR YOU. Over 20 million people are suffering right now from substance abuse, often in silence. This secrecy around addiction creates shame which then increases the addiction, which then increases the shame. This vicious cycle can only be broken if we first break the stigma of addiction and the silence and shame that perpetuates it. This week's guest on the Cracking Open podcast is Reverend Jeff Grant, and he's here to do just that. After a basketball injury, Jeff was prescribed opioids for the pain and thus began his slippery slope into substance dependency. His growing addiction led Jeff down a path filled with secrecy and lies that ultimately caused the loss of his law firm, a suicide attempt, a felony fraud conviction, and a federal prison sentence. This cracking open moment radically awakened Jeff's life and soul. After being released from prison, Jeff earned his Master of Divinity, served at an inner-city church in Bridgeport, Connecticut as Associate Minister and Director of Prison Ministries, and then co-founded Progressive Prison Ministries, Inc. – the world's first ministry dedicated to serving people navigating the white-collar criminal justice system. Jeff's law license has since been reinstated, and he once again founded a private law practice in New York City where he is committed to using his legal expertise and life experience to benefit others. He also recently celebrated his 21st year of sobriety.Join us in this week's episode as we discuss what he has learned along the way about relationships, work ethic, service, God, addiction, prison, and sobriety. This is a deep dive into how to love, tell your truth, and live a meaningful spiritual life in service to others.Love,MollyLearn about Jeff Grant's work with GrantLaw, PLLC & Progressive Prison Ministries Connect with Jeff on LinkedInLearn more about Molly Carroll hereConnect with Molly on Instagram and FacebookFeeling Stuck? It's Your Time To Get UNSTUCK3-Month Small Group Coaching ProgramStarting October 5, 2023Book a FREE discovery call with Molly today!

I just put out my newest book, The Leg End, and thought it might be fun to read the first section of the story to give people a taste of what to expect. I don't think I've ever done anything quite like this on the podcast before. The book is available on Amazon. You may have to search "the leg end jeff grant". It will correct you, thinking you meant "legend" and you'll have to click the thing that says "no, I meant leg end". I've posted links in other places on the internet but I don't think I can do that in this description, sadly. Episode 22: Reclaiming Purpose: A Transformative Journey Through Addiction, Rehab and Prison In a powerful and inspiring episode, Jeff Grant, co-founder of both Progressive Prison Ministries Inc. and GrantLaw, PLLC, joins host Matt Adams, Co-Chair of Fox Rothschild's White-Collar Criminal Defense & Regulatory Compliance Practice Group, to share his story of redemption. About 25 years ago, Jeff experienced a downward spiral stemming from a prescription opioid addiction that twisted his lucrative legal career into criminal behavior. Despite a successful stint in rehab, he was disbarred and incarcerated for lying on a post-9/11 SBA loan. This riveting discussion shines a light into the darkness of Jeff's experiences and explains how, by taking responsibility for his actions, Jeff now devotes his life to helping people prosecuted for white-collar crimes and their families. Note: This episode contains discussion of substance abuse and attempted suicide.
Staff writer, Evan Osnos, for the New Yorker Magazine described my guest Jeff Grant this way, "Jeff Grant is the real deal; he's candid and generous with his wisdom. I can't imagine there is a lawyer in the country more qualified to consider the complex issues facing people prosecuted for white collar crimes and their families." Incredible quote and could not be more true. Jeff was a high flying successful New York real estate attorney. He became addicted to prescription opioids after a tear in in his Achilles tendon playing basketball. HIs life when into a dark spiral from dipping into his clients escrow accounts to creating loan fraud with a government SBA loan. He lost his law license and eventually received a 14 month sentence in Federal Prison. What he did with his life after getting out of prison is nothing short of remarkable and inspiring. He became an ordained minister earning a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, majoring in Social Ethics. After graduating from divinity school , Jeff was called to serve at an inner city church in Bridgeport, CT as associate minister and Director of Prison Ministries.
