Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Wayne Hall, Ken Fuller and Jeffrey Crecelius This week Mark and I had all sorts of fun thinking about whether there are any short Yes epics - or if this idea is even possible. We set ourselves the restriction of only choosing Yes songs less than 6mins in duration so can you guess what we came up with and how we justified our choices? It was sad to hear that Ozzy Osbourne died this week, only a few weeks after performing his last ever concert with his Black Sabbath bandmates. I can't say I was a dedicated fan of Ozzy or Sabbath but my introduction to heavy metal was when a friend of mine took me up to his room in a slightly creepy Victorian mansion and played me the self-titled album by the Birmingham band. How appropriate the setting was. I also learned to play Paranoid on the drums when I was a teenager and my younger son taught my daughter, when she was a toddler, to sing the alphabet to the riff from War Pigs. My elder son was a true fan so he was upset when we heard the news. As you know if you've read the new Tales book or get your information from many other sources like Matthew Paine on Facebook, Rick Wakeman was a huge fan of Ozzy who he met at Morgan Studios while Yes were recording Tales. He ended up playing keys on 2 songs on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath which was being recorded over the road in another Morgan studio at the time. Eventually, Ozzy returned the favour by singing on Rick's "The Return to the Center of the Earth", as pointed out by Paul Graf also on Facebook. Our own Doug Curran interviewed Ozzy for his radio show in 1981 so do make a point of reading his reflections on that on the YMP Facebook discussion group Rest in Peace Ozzy. https://www.quora.com/What-makes-epic-songs-epic https://youtu.be/YGsq3ya1-8Y?si=_4zjczWxt3grbwzH https://youtu.be/UF2P_qgi7YA?si=n9Vbim5fGeLPjfEN https://youtu.be/63nZud3Xu1Y?si=Y0PMEIxL5dxYXNHS https://youtu.be/CBtZ8exhRPQ?si=rt0xacK2W8SeZXl4 https://youtu.be/8-hJFoSgXfM?si=OTCdWuAB7U2zg-1- https://youtu.be/qEUkRRLe6vQ?si=SwOTImHn3DIXFIYe Yes - The Tormato Story & Tales from Topographic Oceans - Yes Album Listening Guide Available now! Joelle Tegwen: Business Analyst to Product Owner—More Than a Title Change Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. The Great Product Owner: The Collaborative Visionary Joelle worked with an exceptional Product Owner at a medical company who was leading their team into a new way of working. This PO understood both the vision piece of the work and the importance of experimentation, recognizing that the team was responsible for figuring out how to solve the problems they were trying to tackle. Working within a Large Scale Scrum framework, they demonstrated patience while collaborating with skilled team members to improve how they worked together. Rather than complaining to the team about performance issues, this PO collaborated directly with the Scrum Master to address challenges. Most importantly, they maintained crystal clear focus on customer value, ensuring every decision and direction connected back to what would truly benefit the end user. The Bad Product Owner: The JIRA Manager Joelle describes the problematic pattern of Business Analysts who receive a title change to Product Owner without understanding the fundamental shift in role and responsibilities. These individuals continue to see themselves as scribes rather than visionaries, treating their primary job as managing JIRA instead of setting a vision for where the product should go. They typically lack understanding of meaningful metrics and rely on gut-feel prioritization rather than data-driven decisions. Most critically, they fail to communicate about problems to solve or establish a clear North Star for the team. Joelle recommends providing these POs with structured formats for Epics and features that start with hypothesis, problem, and measures, helping them think at higher levels than just user story management. Self-reflection Question: Whether you're a Product Owner or work closely with one, how might you help elevate the conversation from task management to vision and problem-solving? [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]
There's a lot to talk about this week in the world of physical media. Peter Sobczynski joins Erik Childress to talk about a Stanley Kubrick epic finally getting the release it deserves. Oliver Stone revisits a final cut for his own epic and there is also some epic destruction from the ‘70s. Denzel Washington looks for a serial killer, though not the one traipsing through the woods like he was Terrence Malick. They've got film noir with Glenn Ford, horror meeting blaxploitation and Peter offering his thoughts on Ryan Coogler's huge 2025 success. Finally the pair discuss Mike Nichols' now quaint adaptation of politics leading up to the Clinton years and Amy Heckerling's teen film from the ‘90s still entertaining generations decades later.2:30 - Criterion (The Big Heat (4K), Barry Lyndon (4K))21:23 – Shout Factory (Primary Colors (4K), Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut (4K), Abigail (4K))50:08 - Kino (Sugar Hill)55:37 - RJLE (In a Violent Nature (4K))1:04:59 - WB (The Little Things (4K))1:12:44 - Universal (Earthquake (4K))1:31:32 - Paramount (Clueless (4K))1:44:51 - New Theatrical & TV Titles On Blu-ray (Warfare (4K), Death of a Unicorn, The Amateur (4K), The Legend of Ochi, , Shadow Force, The Rule of Jenny Pen, Hell of a Summer, Until Dawn (4K), Sinners (4K), Fallout: Season One (4K), Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993-1997), See (The Complete Series))1:53:30 – New Blu-ray AnnouncementsCheck eligibilityCLICK ON THE FILMS TO RENT OR PURCHASE AND HELP OUT THE MOVIE MADNESS PODCASTBe sure to check outChicago Screening Schedule - All the films coming to theaters and streamingPhysical Media Schedule - Click & Buy upcoming titles for your library.(Direct purchases help the Movie Madness podcast with a few pennies.)Erik's Linktree - Where you can follow Erik and his work anywhere and everywhere. The Movie Madness Podcast has been recognized by Million Podcasts as one of the Top 100 Best Movie Review Podcasts as well as in the Top 60 Film Festival Podcasts and Top 100 Cinephile Podcasts. Ramayanam and Mahabharatam are the two great Epics of our country. they teach us the lessons of life and act as a guide to refer whenever we have a dilemma about what is right and what is wrong. As a humble effort I am starting a journey of narrating Mahabharatam as much as possible in a simple narrative style. the idea is to introduce young minds to our great culture and epics so that they get a chance to explore more and delve into these epics. I am not an expert to know the literary essence of this Epic. but as a person who has been listening to the stories of Mahabharatam from our elders and from books I am confident to share with you what I enjoyed as a child and also an elder person. let us embark on this mega project and travel together exploring the vista these stories show. hariom. this is Rajee patti telling you Mahabharatam.

With her deep and fearless portrayals of German and European history, Jenny Erpenbeck is a unique voice in world literature. Her authorship is widely considered to be among the most important of our time, leaving critics to discuss when, and not if she receives the Nobel prize for literature. This year, her latest novel Kairos was awarded the International Booker prize. In Kairos, we follow an increasingly dysfunctional couple, mirroring the dying nation state of the DDR, where the novel is set. It is a novel about love and passion, but equally about the relationship between power and the arts.In her writing, Erpenbeck combines an acute awareness of history with succinct prose and a daring sense of form and composition. Through short stories, essays, plays and a host of critically acclaimed novels, she explores themes such as identity and memory and shows us the human costs of totalitarian regimes. How does the past continue to shape our present and future? Now, Erpenbeck is joined by author and editor Mattis Øybø at the House of Literature for a conversation on a dark and burning European history. Erik Rostad joins us once again for his third annual appearance on the Scott Townsend Show, bringing fresh insights from his impressive reading project. Since 2017, Erik has been on a mission to read 52 books a year, but his journey has grown to encompass nearly 200 authors, exploring timeless works that have shaped literature and thought. He shares his passion for epic texts like those by Homer, Egyptian writings, and the Epic of Gilgamesh, and how these classics are interwoven with Greek tragedies and philosophical musings. Get ready to be inspired by Eric's plans to explore the works of Plato and Aristotle to unearth the deep cultural connections and timeless impact of these foundational texts. We take a fascinating look at how multiple readings of books or movies can uncover new layers of meaning and enjoyment. Eris shares the story of someone who delved into "Theo of Golden" by Alan Levi five times, each for a different purpose, and how watching "Up" 31 times revealed fresh details and emotions. Our discussion touches on the communal reading practices of the past, where sharing books aloud enriched the experience, and how such practices can enhance our connection to literature today. Erik also shares his personal strategies for retaining information, like underlining and making notes, which help him revisit and remember key insights from his reading adventures. Our conversation rounds off with a focus on the cultural significance of foundational texts like the Iliad, encouraging readers to engage with these works through reading groups and podcasts.
