"Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" writer Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty, Jimmy Kimmel Live) brings our biggest stack of books yet and talks with Joshua about everything from Anthony Bourdain books to the Teenage Bible. He and Joshua bring the same final novel of Tolstoy, "Resurrection" and joke about the time they bro'd out at the Alamo Theater and watched the emotionally heavy movie "Past Lives". Joshua also gives a sneak peek at his soon to be released poetry book "On the Outside Looking Up" and reads two book recommendations written in from listeners of the show! Hosted on Acast. Director Peyton Reed and writer Jeff Loveness
Recent developments suggest a significant shift in Marvel Studios' storytelling direction, moving away from the Kang storyline, which has been a central element in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) recent phase. According to Vanity Fair reporter Joanna Robinson, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” screenwriter Jeff Loveness is not involved in writing the upcoming “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” This change indicates Marvel's likely move away from the Kang storyline, a narrative thread weaving through both seasons of the Disney+ series “Loki” and the Ant-Man threequel. It also impacts future installments of the Multiverse Saga, including “Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
In which the Mister and I check out ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA (2023) which you can stream on Disney+. From director Peyton Reed, and writing credits to Jeff Loveness, Stan Lee and Larry Lieber. This third film in the Ant-Man storyline follows Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his extended family getting dragged into and separated in the Quantum Realm, which holds many secrets for Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) and introduces the Langs (Kathryn Newton as Cassie) and the Van Dynes (Evangeline Lilly as Hope and Michael Douglas as Hank) to a new ominous threat named Kang (Jonathan Majors). Another film with amazing VFX work, a solid story and great performances make this a treat. The film clocks in at 2 h 4 m and is rated PG-13. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. This week, we consume a dangerous amount of Pym particles in order to shrink our brains down to the appropriate size to talk about 2023's Antman 3. The movie may not have been our cup of computer animated tea, but the conversation, and the drinks, made for a fun time regardless! Directed by Peyton Reed. Written by Jeff Loveness. Starring Paul Rudd, Ebangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

We like three months late to reviewing this but we try to cover most Marvel stuff for the views. SPOILERS not big fans of it. Series Synopsis: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a 2023 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope Pym / Wasp. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and the 31st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was directed by Peyton Reed, written by Jeff Loveness, and stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, alongside Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, David Dastmalchian, Katy O'Brian, William Jackson Harper, Bill Murray, Michelle Pfeiffer, Corey Stoll, and Michael Douglas. In the film, Lang, Van Dyne, and their family are accidentally transported to the Quantum Realm and face off against Kang the Conqueror (Majors).
The conclusion of our Ant-Man: Quantumania episode! Kang doesn't have a constituency. Jeff Loveness doesn't understand conquerors, socialism or story structure. It all ends in a big dumb fistfight. Come back next week for episode #9 — Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer!

Check out all of our fine Stranded Panda Podcasts www.strandedpanda.com Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes According to a now deleted Disney Movie Insiders post, the release date for the Star Wars: Ahsoka Disney Plus series has been revealed to be August 31! This is in line with reports coming out of last month's Star Wars Celebration that the 8-episode limited series would be premiering sometime in late summer. It's not all happy news for the series, unfortunately, as veteran sci-fi actor, Ray Stevenson, who portrays turncoat Jedi Baylon Skoll, passed away this weekend at the age of 58, while shooting a film in Italy. Disney has started removing dozens of series, specials and direct-to-streaming movies from both Disney Plus and Hulu. The move, which was announced during the May 10 Disney earnings call, is part of an effort to cut costs and refocus content curation to maximize profitability. The list is extensive, but a notable standouts is Willow, which finished its season in January, and has not been available for a full 6 months. The Willow series, along with many others on the list, were never released to physical media and are essentially lost to the void. Early backlash from the announced purge has already saved a few titles including the documentary Howard and Marvel series MPower and Marvel's Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever. Fast X crossed the finish line in first place at the box office this weekend with a reported haul of $67 million, domestically. This was enough to overtake reigning champ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in its third weekend. Vin Diesel also confirmed that a spin-off film is currently in development with an all female lead cast. A teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi film The Creator had dropped. Coming to us from Rogue One and the 2014 Godzilla director, Gareth Edwards, the film stars John David Washington and tells the story of a future humanity at war with artificial intelligence that is bent on destroying human life. The film will debut on September 29th. After releasing a teaser that debuted a full year ago with Top Gun: Maverick, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 has dropped its official first trailer. The first part of the two part film series will hit theaters on July 12th. Paramount Films and AppleTV+ have debuted the first trailer for Martin Scosese's Killers of the Flower Moon. The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Di Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lilly Gladstone, and Brenden Fraser will premiere in theaters on October 6th and will be distributed during an unspecified streaming release on AppleTV+ as well. Chiwtel Ejiofor who played Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange has closed a deal to star opposite Tom Hardy in Venom 3. Eddie Murphy is in final talks to play Inspector Clouseau in an upcoming reboot of Pink Panther, described as a live action/CGI hybrid buddy cop film. A new teaser officially announced the revival of beloved sci fi animated series Futurama is set to debut on Hulu on July 24th. MCU Rumors: Industry insiders are reporting that Jeff Loveness, who wrote Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and was in line to write Avengers: Kang Dynasty is no longer writing the film. Insiders are also reporting that Emma Stone was originally offered the role of Sue Storm in the MCU, but turned it down due to salary disputes. Neither of these reports have been confirmed by anyone attached to Marvel Studios. Ridley Scott's upcoming Gladiator sequel continues to round out it's cast. Barry Keoghan, who was attached to the film in the early phases has exited. May Calamawy who starred as Layla in Moon Knight among others has joined the cast. Tati Gabrielle, best known for her work in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and You has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel to the 2021 film Mortal Kombat and will play the character of Jade.

Broccoli Man WEEKLY MARVEL STUDIO NEWS [1:01:24] MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS Disney Boss Confirms an All-New Avengers Team Is Coming to the MCU https://www.cbr.com/new-avengers-movie-team-confirmed/ Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that a new roster for the Avengers is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iger mentioned this change to Earth's Mightiest Heroes while speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, beginning by saying that there's nothing wrong regarding the Marvel brand, but Disney "just [has] to look at what characters and stories [it's] mining" for future projects. "If you look at the trajectory of Marvel in the next five years, there will be a lot of newness," he continued. "We're going to turn back to the Avengers franchise with a whole new set of Avengers, for example." Iger did not name any characters who would be on the new roster. Bob Iger: Disney Will Reduce Costs on Films, TV Shows to Focus on Quality, Not Volume https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/disney-content-marvel-star-wars-bob-iger-1235346999/ Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed the organization's plan to reduce the amount of content it produces in a bid to improve its quality. Per The Hollywood Reporter, during a Morgan Stanley press conference Iger touched upon Disney's focus on cutting down costs and "understanding how much volume we need, reducing how much we make." Iger noted, "I'm really pleased that the support that I'm getting from the content creators of the company is significant and real, and it comes in the form of reducing the expense per content, whether it's a TV series or a film, where costs have just skyrocketed in a huge way and not a supportable way in my opinion. They all agree to that." He continued, "So it's how much we spend on what we make and how much we make." Disney+ Daredevil: Born Again Reveals First Recast Role From the Netflix Series ‘Daredevil: Born Again' Lands ‘Dexter' Director Michael Cuesta (Exclusive) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/daredevil-born-again-lands-director-1235346034/ https://www.cbr.com/daredevil-born-again-vanessa-fisk-recast-sandrine-holt/ In Marvel Studios' Disney+ original series Daredevil: Born Again, Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin from the Netflix original series Marvel's Daredevil. The villain's wife, on the other hand, has been recast for the upcoming reboot. Back in December, it was revealed that Sandrine Holt (Hostages, Better Call Saul) had joined the cast of Born Again as a romantic interest for one of the show's two lead characters. The Hollywood Reporter now reports that Holt will, in fact, be portraying Vanessa Fisk (née Marianna), the wife of D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk. Vanessa was previously portrayed by Ayelet Zurer in Seasons 1 and 3 of Netflix's Daredevil. This marks the first confirmed instance of Born Again recasting one of the Netflix show's roles. Holt's role being revealed coincides with the news that Born Again's pilot episode will be helmed by Michael Cuesta, of Dexter fame. Jon Bernthal Returning as the Punisher for ‘Daredevil: Born Again https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/daredevil-born-again-casts-jon-bernthal-punisher-1235342229/ COMIC BOOK NEWS GENREAL Hasbro to Pause Marvel Legends 3-3/4 Retro Action Figures https://www.superherohype.com/geek-culture/528332-hasbro-to-pause-marvel-legends-3-3-4-retro-action-figures Even as Hasbro expands their offerings of 3-3/4 inch retro Star Wars figures, they're putting the Marvel version on hold. Though fans joyfully greeted the addition of a vehicle with Ghost Rider (above), the Marvel Legends retro figures will go on indefinite hiatus for now. Hasbro's quick to note, however, that they aren't canceled, but “resting.” There's a chance for a return at some point in the future, but not any time soon. Fans of smaller scale figures need not worry, as Marvel's launching a 4-inch line aimed at kids (and their budgets) called Epic Heroes. It's not considered a replacement for retro, which was aimed more at the inner children of older collectors. But if size and more toyetic design are the appeal, they may work to scratch that figure itch. OUTRO AND BONUS AUDIO [1:16:39] We would love to hear back from you! Feige brought up Moon Knight's MCU future during a conversation with Entertainment Weekly about the initial wave of Marvel-produced Disney+ series, which included the six-episode Moon Knight series. "The fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them," Feige said. "Moon Knight, same thing. I think there's a future for that character as we move forward." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has provided an update on Spider-Man 4. During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Feige was asked if there were any updates on Spider-Man 4, following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While his response was short, he did indicate the story is already settled for Peter Parker's next adventure. Feige said, "All I will say is that we have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now." Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige "reveals" which character from The Marvels steals the upcoming film. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Feige discussed what the major takeaways were for Marvel Studios during Phase 4, which introduced several new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a variety of films and television shows. "I hope we learn something on every project," he said. "I was very pleased with everything that we did. Kamala Khan, for instance, is a great new character in the pantheon. I'm very proud of the Ms. Marvel show. I also know — and this is a spoiler — she essentially steals The Marvels, which is coming out [July 28]. It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+." The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali as the famous vampire hunter, will shoot in about two and a half months, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Feige was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the MCU's Phase Five, which begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and ends with an all new Blade in late 2024. When asked if he had any updates on Blade, Feige didn't disclose many details but confirmed that the film is moving along smoothly. "It's going well," Feige said. "Our director Yann [Demange] is down in Atlanta right now. Cameras roll in, like, the next 10 weeks or so." Insider reports previously claimed that Blade wouldn't begin shooting until July, but Feige's projected start date of 10 weeks means the movie will begin shooting this spring. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the ever-expanding scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pointing out that it was necessary to release a wide variety of films and television shows while noting that not everything would necessarily appeal to everyone. "If there's a Marvel Studios method -- like there was a Marvel method in publishing -- it's trying to do both," Feige told Entertainment Weekly when asked about balancing ongoing MCU story threads with capturing new audiences. "I've talked about this for years: If you want to dip in and out and just go to the movies on a Friday night or watch a streaming series, you can do that. And if you want to follow along, there's certainly much more to be discovered. But we don't ever want it to seem exclusive or that you need to have done your homework before watching something. Now, I've also realized that a lot of people like to do the homework. A lot of people find the fun in the homework and the continuity and the connectivity. But it is a balance of always trying to do both." Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new U.S. President. Feige confirmed that Ross will move into the Oval Office in Captain America: New World Order in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "[Ross is] the President of the United States in the film," he said. "And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will play an essential role in the highly-anticipated Thunderbolts movie. Speaking with EW, Feige teased that Bucky Barnes will become the de facto leader of this group of complicated individuals who don't even consider themselves heroes. "What's fun about that [Thunderbolts film], and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes," Feige said. "None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down." According to Kevin Feige, the 'Previously On' recap could be less important for upcoming Marvel TV shows as they might experiment with more traditional episodic structures. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige stated that "[w]e want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained." He pointed to watching episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation to illustrate the pleasures of less overarching TV storytelling: "I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we're going to keep experimenting with that going forward." When it comes to upcoming projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has one, in particular, he's most looking forward to. "...We talked a little bit about Secret Wars. We talked about Kang Dynasty as related to Quantumania," Feige told Entertainment Weekly, referencing the MCU's current storylines and reflecting on future projects. "The only other one in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We sort of talked about mutants and that whole aspect to the Marvel world, but Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There's certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that's something that is really exciting for us." MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS Brie Larson says The Marvels costar Iman Vellani is 'the future' https://ew.com/movies/brie-larson-the-marvels-iman-vellani-is-the-future/ The Marvels' Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel dynamic brings things full circle for Brie Larson, who joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks in part to Kamala Khan's 2014 comic debut. "A huge part of why I wanted to play Captain Marvel was because of Ms. Marvel and what that meant," Larson told Entertainment Weekly in regards to her MCU origins and co-star Iman Vellani's Marvel future. Praising Vellani's performance as the young hero Kamala, she continued, "To see that character realized by such a brilliant human with so much potential is just a really exciting thing." Larson described Vellani -- who made her acting debut in last year's Ms. Marvel Disney+ show -- as "the perfect Ms. Marvel and the most incredible person and castmate. I'm so excited for her success and I'm so excited to see what she will do with her life because she can do anything she wants. She's one of my favorite people on this earth." Deadpool 3, Blade Get Basic Synopses and the Same Filming Start Date https://www.cbr.com/deadpool-3-blade-synopsis-film-date/ Marvel Studios' upcoming films Deadpool 3 and Blade are both currently scheduled to begin production on the same day, according to a new report. Per Production List, the two Marvel Cinematic Universe titles will both commence principal photography on May 1, with Deadpool 3 shooting in Vancouver, Canada, and Blade set to film in both Atlanta and New Orleans. Brief synopses were also released for the upcoming superhero installments, with Deadpool 3's simply teasing "Another chapter in the raunchy, violent, and of course, hilarious Deadpool series." However, the synopsis for Blade is a bit meatier and reads as follows: "He is known to be a vampire hunter— half-mortal, half-immortal— who tries to rid the world of vampires as a way of avenging his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him." While light on plot details, the synopsis does confirm that the MCU version of the character will retain his comic book origin. "Marvel takes something away from movies including Black Panther, including Avengers," an insider close to the film told Deadline about Quantumania, which dropped nearly 70% at the domestic box office in its second weekend in theaters. "I can say we're incredibly proud of the film, Jonathan Majors does a fantastic job as Kang. It's the movie we wanted to make. Box office is what it is. But it's not going to stop people from going back to the theaters." After ‘Ant-Man 3's' Second Weekend Box Office Collapse, Should Marvel Get Concerned? https://variety.com/2023/film/box-office/ant-man-quantumania-box-office-drop-concern-marvel-1235536265/ Marvel's latest MCU release, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, had a big box office drop over its second weekend, but Hollywood analysts suggest it's not time for Marvel to panic. The third installment in the Ant-Man franchise amassed $105 million in its opening weekend and followed up the next weekend with only $32 million in profit. Despite having the first $100 million debut of 2023, Variety reports that the 69% drop is Marvel's biggest second-week crash to date. Despite this, Marvel insiders have stated they are unconcerned with the significant box office loss, and Hollywood analysts seem to agree. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and the 31st film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the film, Lang and Van Dyne are transported to the Quantum Realm along with their family and face Kang the Conqueror (Majors). Plans for a third Ant-Man film were confirmed in November 2019, with Reed and Rudd returning. Loveness was hired by April 2020, with development on the film beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film's title and new cast members were announced in December 2020. Filming in Turkey began in early February 2021, while additional filming occurred in San Francisco in mid-June, ahead of principal photography starting at the end of July at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and ending in November. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premiered in Los Angeles on February 6, 2023, and was released in the United States on February 17, 2023, as the first film in Phase Five of the MCU. It received mixed reviews from critics, with the screenplay and storyline receiving criticism, while the performances (especially those of Rudd, Majors, and Pfeiffer) and visuals were praised. The film has grossed over $284 million worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2023. Kang the Conqueror: Only Myself Left to Conquer The time traveler known as Kang the Conqueror has led many lives across many eras. He has been a pharaoh, a villain, a warlord of the spaceways — and even, on rare occasions, a hero. Across all timelines, one fact seemed absolute: Time means nothing to Kang. But the truth about the Conqueror is much more complex! Kang is caught in an endless cycle of creation and destruction, dictated by time and previously unseen by any but the Conqueror himself. A cycle that, once revealed, could finally explain the enigma that is Kang. And a cycle that begins and ends with an old and broken Kang sending his younger self down a dark path… COLLECTING: Kang The Conqueror (2021) 1-5 These sort of reviews usually go on our Patreon page so join up!
