Zo is in the 23rd Century (don't ask how he got there; it's not important). The important thing is that he was on a luxury cruise ship the Fhloston Paradise having the time of his life, surrounded by delicacies of every kind and rubbing elbows with some of the most powerful, popular and celebrated beings in the galaxy when, suddenly, the ship was boarded by Mangalore pirates and gunfire was everywhere. Being terrified, Zo found a table in a ballroom that he could hide behind and hope that someone would come along and defend him and the rest of the helpless passengers or that the criminal aliens would just grab what they wanted and go away. While he was hiding a man in a torn and bloodied tuxedo followed by a very skittish galaxy wide famous DJ, Ruby Rhod ,walked passed him. They seemed to know what they were doing. Hopefully, this would be all over soon. Just Shoot It: A Podcast about Filmmaking, Screenwriting and Directing
Director Emily Elizabeth Thomas joins Matt and Oren to talk about her journey from commercial success to directing vertical series and feature films.Meanwhile, Oren's been updating his website and shares some valuable insights on what to include in your reel, what to leave out, and why it matters. And that leads into Matt sharing some insightful data on how many views a reel gets per day.Back to Emily—she's all about making everything feel like a movie, even a vertical series. She shares how she fought for that vision and explains how shooting open gate helped convince producers they could save money doing it her way. And maybe even make more with some luck.At her core, Emily is a craft-driven filmmaker with a passion for detail. She talks about her love for set design and working with artisanal couturiers to find the perfect accessories, like a custom western hat from Austin or hours spent digging through costumes at Warner Brothers. The episode wraps with practical tips on surgically using tools like jibs, Steadicams, and Technocrane (yeah the gear producers often assume is out of budget) to maximize production value and scope on a tight budget. You can find Emily here:https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8502506/https://www.electriccowgirl.xyz/IG: @emilyelizabeththomas/---Matt's Endorsement: Letterboxd's interview with the stars of "I Like Movies" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE1kANkYGSw and the movie itself https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14913282/ Oren's Endorsement: The book "Linchpin" by Seth Godin https://seths.store/linchpin/. When is a dream just a dream? Could recurring visions of a futuristic Tokyo—one with neon-lit skyways, android garrisons, and flooded shopping malls—be something more? This week, we look at the extraordinary story of a woman who's been visiting the same future city since early childhood. Through years of out-of-body experiences and strange astral journeys, her vision of this place became increasingly vivid, consistent, and shockingly detailed. But everything changed when a friend revealed she'd been dreaming of the same exact world. Is this a shared hallucination, a soul memory, or a glimpse into a parallel incarnation? And what does it mean when a shaman tells you… your soul is missing? Then for our Plus+ Members, we unravel a bizarre tale of astrology parties gone wrong, tarot reader curses, and a chilling explanation rooted in the ancient concept of ether. We explore how curses might propagate through a spiritual substance, and how paranormal phenomena could be supercharged by emotional trauma, magnetic fields… or bad wine and a few too many crystal balls. This week Jim dips into Flesh for Frankenstein, Darren watches Death of a Unicorn while Lee enthuses over his newly night purchased Commodore 64... What follows is some nostalga bait and then some intense peer pressure for Darren as we try to make him spend money on a zx spectrum. After that with Asking for Trouble, we get into the thorny issue of time travelling and killing hitler a question that isn't quite as easily answered as you might think, before we all collectively realise that Lee hasn't really got over The Fifth Element. Then finally its on to this weeks film, a pretentious pile of arse that needs you to do the work for the writers? Or a deep challenging psychological surreal study into the nature of a broken mans desire for freedom? Or an arachnophobes nightmare? Whatever it is, we're going to review, it as we watch Denis Villeneuve's Enemy Media Discussed this week Flesh for Frankenstein - Amazon Prime Blood of Dracula - Amazon Prime Star Wars original 1977 theatrical cut - BFI film on film festival The Lincoln Lawyer - Netflix Daredevil Born Again - Disney+ Death of a Unicorn - Theatrical Release Climax - Film4 Enemy - iTVX
This week we leap with Bruce Willis to a cult classic favourite of many - 1997 French sci-fi action film The Fifth Element. This film is coming up to being 30 years old. Is it still as great as many remember it being? We have an interesting discussion and varied opinions on this. We hope you enjoy.
The Earth is about to be destroyed by a huge ball of fire racing toward the planet. Cornelius, an old monk, knows how to stop the burning sphere with the help of Korben Dallas, a taxi driver and former secret agent and a woman named Leeloo.
Stuff. We discuss our fav bits of nerd news: the OG Star Wars movies are available to stream, The Electric State on Netflix, Vin Deisel voicing the Fifth Element, Madame Webb won the best worst movie in 2024, Fantastic Four concept art shows a female Silver Surfer, Avengers Doomsday concept art, Shrek 5 trailer, Bondsman out on Prime April 3, House of David trailer, and apparently Superman by James Gun is not good. For bingeing, Big Pops finally finished The Big Bang Theory. He also has enjoyed Rouge One and downloaded the comic series “The New Gods.” Sis had read 82 books so far this year, is still loving How to Train Your Dragon, and has been re-watching the Dare Devil TV-Show. Then, Pops shared his pull list! This week he introduces us to Absolute Wonder Woman issue 7 by DC; Ultimate Spiderman Issue 14 by Marvel; and Hornsby and Halo Issue 4 by Image. His new number 1 is Jump Scare by Dark Horse. His Book of the Week is Fantastic Four Issue 29 by Marvel. We then review a recent comic con the family attended and where Pops had a booth.
Episode 123: Vickie Sampson – Dialogue, Detail, and the Art of Sound In this episode of The Filmumentaries Podcast, I speak with sound editor, dialogue and ADR supervisor, and filmmaker Vickie Sampson. Vickie's career began in the early 1970s, and she's since built up a mighty list of credits including Romancing the Stone, The River, Tank Girl, The Fifth Element, Ordinary People, and Return of the Jedi. We discuss:Growing up surrounded by film and soundHer hands-on experiences on shows like The Big Valley and The RiflemanThe vital but often misunderstood role of dialogue and ADR editingWhat makes a great production sound handover (and how so many indies get it wrong!)‘Temp love' and the challenges of directors getting attached to scratch tracksWorking with actors like Keanu Reeves, Meryl Streep and Sigourney WeaverHer time in London supervising ADR for Return of the Jedi – including a story about the reels being stolen from her carWhy clean dialogue is the bedrock of a good filmHer continued work as a director and teacherThis one's packed with stories, insights, and practical advice for anyone working in – or just obsessed with – film sound.

Gene and cohost Tim Swartz introduce Michael K. Waterman, who explores the magic and mystery of Ancient Egypt, plus the pop culture interest that includes a variety of movies and TV shows. They include the Mummy films, "Stargate" and its three TV spinoffs, and "The Fifth Element." He will also discuss the myths and legends of the presence of Ancient Astronauts. Waterman was born in Brooklyn and raised in Uniondale, New York. He has studied Egyptology for over 50 years and has lectured and taught Ancient Egyptian Religion and Ancient Egyptian Ritual Magick. Waterman worked for Troma Films creating clay models for various movies and is also known as Setna Khamuast — The High Priest and founder of the Per-Ntjeru Temples. And, yes, he also reads hieroglyphics. This is a guest who will focus on topics that we've seldom explored on The Paracast, and we've got lots of questions about the mysteries of the ancient world.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-paracast-the-gold-standard-of-paranormal-radio--6203433/support.

In the sixteenth episode of Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks, Kyle is joined by editor Kristi Shimek and activist Kerry Harwin to discuss the opulent world building of Luc Besson's ode to comic book color and science-fiction grandeur in the flamboyant, gender-bending, and archetype subverting space opera centering around the mythic battle between good and evil that is The Fifth Element (1997).

This is a segment we first aired back in 2011. In it, we hear a story of a very different kind of lost and found. Alan Lundgard, a college art student, fell in love with a fellow art student, Emilie Gossiaux. Nine months after Alan and Emilie made it official, Emilie's mom, Susan Gossiaux, received a terrible phone call from Alan. Together, Susan and Alan tell Jad and Robert about the devastating fork in the road that left Emilie lost in a netherworld, and how Alan found her again. Then, at the end of the episode, and a full decade later, we catch up with Emilie and talk about her art, her heart, a dog named London, and the movie The Fifth Element.
