The sermon was delivered on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION Man’s inhumanities to man and human triumph over adversity are all on vivid and unforgettable display in Gilcrease Museum's current exhibition, Pulitzer Prize Photographs, from the Newseum in Washington D.C. (https://gilcrease.org/exhibitions/pulitzer/). If those photographs do not cause a person to ask big questions about life and death then perhaps nothing will. Join me to seek out and to make sense of this world without the burden of orthodoxies and superstitions or outworn beliefs. With the stories from these award winning photographs, I will look at our existence with all its fierceness and triumph. Inspired by Darkness? We received a number of questions / messages and even a recording about our last episode, Episode 193 »» Pulitzer Prize Photographs with Antonio M. Rosario, asking for further explanation about finding inspiration in these often dark, award-winning images. While we do not discuss this any further in this episode, you can expect a proper follow-up in the upcoming week. Thank you so much for chiming in! Stay tuned! Chocolate Elephants Mac was intrigued by the clever way Vancouver photographer, Ian McDonald, penned an article about making sense of your photography. We thought Ian’s article complimented one of Olaf Sztaba’s recent articles, Confidence–A Roller-Coaster to Seeing(Intro), which we discussed back on episode 182. Inspired by Ian’s words, we took to the mics to discuss his article, the wonderful videos by Ted Forbes on his The Art of Photography YouTube channel and more! Join the Convo We would love to hear your thoughts on the show! How do you approach your photography while making sense of your art? Have you watched any of the videos we talked about and if so, do you have any favourites you would care to share? You can chime in on the blog and find us on Twitter to continue the conversation. You can also subscribe to the show for free via iTunes or Stitcher. If you would like to support the show and help with some of the costs of running this podcast, please check us out on Patreon (any support is appreciated!). Thanks to Ian, Ted and Olaf for the inspiration for this episode (links below). Also, make sure y’all check out the work from Mark Reierson who gave Mac an unofficial workshop experience this past weekend. *wink* To all our listeners: while we may not always agree on these photography topics and our opinions do vary, the respectful way you choose to engage with us and other photographers / listeners by continuing the conversation and creating a wonderful sense of community in the process, is one of the many reasons why we love doing this show, so thank you all. Thanks so much for tuning in, folks! As always, we appreciate your support! Cheers, y’all! #changetheconversation

Winning Moments Every time he is back on Shutter Time, this is a winning moment for us. Of course, I am talking about our brother from another mother, the ridiculously cool photographer and podcaster hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Antonio M. Rosario. Inspired by the incredible award-winning images in the latest version of the book, Moments: The Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographs by Hal Buell, we decided to discuss what we could learn from these Pulitzer Prize photographs that have been a part of our history since the first award was handed out in 1942 and the photographers who made them. Disclaimer: we (mainly Sid) may have been pronouncing Pulitzer incorrectly as we have heard both versions. Before you refer to us as uncultured swine, perhaps just chime in and let us know which version is correct. Thanks! Join the Convo: We would love to hear your thoughts on the show! Have you looked at the book? What do you think of the Pulitzer award-winning photographs? You can chime in on the blog and find us on Twitter to continue the conversation. You can also subscribe to the show for free via iTunes or Stitcher. If you would like to support the show and help with some of the costs of running this podcast, please check us out on Patreon (any support is appreciated!). Huge thanks to Antonio for joining us for another episode! We love having him on and recommend y’all check out his work and listen to his photography podcast, Street Shots. Thanks so much as always for tuning in, friends! As always, we appreciate the support and the interaction! Cheers, y’all! #changetheconversation
