POPULARITY
In today's teaching, Pastor Ben asks us two important questions, "Why is change important? Why do we avoid it?" A few thoughts come to mind as we discuss the first 16 "action packed" verses of Matthew 26. Let's take a look at them... *Four things that immediately jump out: 1. Jesus died to save me from myself and eternal judgement. 2. Understanding spiritual forces that oppose us. 3. Ministry is more than just serving. 4. A compromised life affects everyone within "striking distance". *Three reasons why were the religious leaders trying to kill Jesus: 1. Because He caused chaos amongst the religious leaders and their type of control of religion. 2. He exposed the hypocrisy of people that said they believe in God, but lived a totally different way. 3. He was the light of the world that exposed what's really inside of us (dark closets, horrid stenches, etc.) *Four things that the evil one will try to convince you of: 1. Compromise your walk. 2. Discourage you in everyday living. 3. Often bring up your failures. 4. He will lie to you and manipulate your thought. *(dolos - by decoy, bait, or trickery) Do you know what it means to "follow" Jesus? Due to social media, in today's society, the word "follow" means to simply press a button and "become a fan" of someone. But to "Follow Jesus" means something totally different. "Following Jesus" means to read and study the Word of God, and apply what we learn from the Word of God to our every day lives; to love people in the same manner that Jesus loves people. Judas made the wrong choice
Judas made the wrong choice
The religious leaders hated Jesus, but they were ruled by the fear of men. They cared more about what other people thought of them than what God did. The religious leaders literally buried the Truth to try to retain their reputation. Oftentimes we are so worried about what other people think that we are also willing to bury truth in order to maintain a lie. And so the religious leaders found someone who loved money as much as they did - Judas. Despite Judas' scolding of Mary, it's evident that the use of her own hair on Jesus' feet was an act of incredible humility and deep devotion. - Mary anointed Jesus with oil that was worth a year’s wages. - Judas sold Jesus for four months wages. This highlights a truth: What we value most is most precious to us. Magnifying Christ with your very best is always an appropriate act for a Christian.

With Holy Week and Easter around the corner, we are looking at events leading to Jesus' death and resurrection. Jesus faces four attitudes as Matthew 26 begins. The religious leaders had attitudes of pure hostility, the woman in this passage had an attitude of adoration, the apostles had an attitude of apathy and Judas had an attitude of bitterness and betrayal. As we begin to reflect on Jesus' road to the cross, what attitude are you harboring?
