On this Fragrance Friday special of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta is joined by Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg, the visionary founders of The Maker—a brand that blends fragrance, design, and hospitality into an immersive sensory world. Known for revolutionizing beauty with Fresh, Lev and Alina have taken their creativity further, building an environment where scent is more than perfume—it's memory, fantasy, and emotion brought to life.Their journey began with The Maker Hotel in Hudson, New York, a living canvas of textures and stories, where each space feels like stepping into a narrative. From there, they expanded into fragrance—crafting scents that don't follow rigid note pyramids but instead tell stories. Each bottle is its own world: Fire, inspired by intimate nights by the fireplace; Naked, a celebration of dawn and intimacy; and Revel, born from the joy of milestones and love, designed to bottle life's most unforgettable moments. For Lev, this connection to fragrance runs deep. Growing up in Soviet Russia with limited access to perfumes, he witnessed the transformative power of a single French fragrance his mother acquired on the black market—an experience that shaped his lifelong belief in scent as a gateway to emotion and memory. The Maker's fragrances are intentionally genderless, designed to be universal yet deeply personal, allowing wearers to interpret them through their own lives. More than a brand, The Maker is an invitation to pause, savor, and connect with beauty in a fast-paced world. Tune in to hear Lev and Alina share the inspirations behind The Maker, their creative philosophy, and how they're redefining what fragrance can mean.To learn more about The Maker, visit their website and social media. We've been so excited to discuss the newest release from Paraphrase Perfumes, Fruit Thieves, which was totally worth all the customs delays. Thanks to Josh who kindly sent it to us as a gift. At the end of 2023, I hit a wall. Anxiety and burnout forced me to slow down and rebuild (you can hear more in earlier episodes). Out of that experience came Beautiful Inside — a space for honest conversations about mental health, healing, and redefining beauty as something that starts within. In this solo episode, I share my current Sacred Six — the six rituals and mindset shifts helping me heal, reset, and find balance.1. Creating a Sacred SpaceIt includes my:• Infraredi red light: here's my discount code. Here's the article about it • Dyson Supersonic R• My 5 Minute Journal • My Pulsetto device: here's another discount code '• Fragrances by The Ayu and Shemana, candles, incense, crystals, prayer beads, and a photo of my grandmother • Tools like my De La Heart lymphatic tool and Lonvitalite dermarollerThe space itself, with a Viola marble benchtop from Allambie Marble Crafts and VJ panels, feels beautiful and intentional. It reminds me daily of the power of ritual and environment in healing.2. Energy Healing: The Spiral Soul Healing with KellieI recently completed an 8-week Spiral with SoulHealingKellie. Her own story of trauma and transformation inspired me to dive in, and the process combined emotional clearing, EFT, and inner child work. What it gave me: • More openness, less procrastination • Courage to take action • Cleared blocks around goal-setting and asking for what I want • Freedom to dream bigger without fearIt taught me one vital lesson: get out of your own way.3. Spinal Energetics with Dr Sarah JaneDr Sarah Jane created Spinal Energetics™, blending chiropractic, psychology, and energy work. In my session, she “read” my pain with uncanny accuracy — at one point, my arm felt on fire. Though my neck pain is ongoing, I saw how physical and emotional healing mirror one another.4. Breath & Sound Healing with Tanya AlijaniThrough her Soulchemy method, Tanya combines breathwork and sound frequencies that shift the body into deep relaxation. My intention was to release parenting anxiety — I left feeling lighter, calmer, transformed.5. Yin Yoga at Modern MovementYin has become my Sunday reset. At Modern Movement, teachers Tim and Rose create a spiritual, still space that balances out the intensity of other practices.6. Mindset Shifts with Mel RobbinsMel Robbins' Let Them philosophy and 5 Second Rule gave me structure and motivation. They helped me clarify my fitness goals — weights, running, swimming — and reminded me that movement is medicine for body, mind, and soul. And if you love this episode, stay tuned — I'll be sharing even more rituals, products, and practices in my upcoming Sacred Sixty Selfcare and Wellness Guide. This season of Beautiful Inside is proudly brought to you by Blue Haven Pools. We've partnered with Blue Haven to bring our dream pool to life—a custom concrete plunge pool designed to flow seamlessly from our kitchen and dining area, complete with magnesium mineral water, pale Onix mosaic tiles, and white limestone pavers for that Mediterranean feel.Blue Haven has spent over 50 years building beautiful, functional pools, offering everything from fully customised designs to world-first online pool packages for standard blocks.Visit bluehaven.com.au to explore what's possible—and stay tuned for our Pool Diaries mini-series at the end of this episode.Rate and review on iTunes Follow Sigourney on Instagram, Youtube and TikTok: Follow Beauticate on Instagram: and Facebook

And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. When I think of founder stories that move me to my core, Octavia Morgan's journey is right at the top.  In this episode, I sit down with Octavia Morgan, CEO and Creative Director of Octavia Morgan, to discuss building a fine fragrance brand rooted in intention, courage, and community. From her early mornings in meditation to the emotional moment a customer cried after finally finding a scent she could wear, this is a conversation about listening to your calling, even when it's scary. Octavia left a stable nursing career to create a fragrance brand for people like her—those with scent sensitivities who still wanted complexity, boldness, and beauty in what they wear. She shares how she took her brand “to the streets,” grew through word of mouth, and developed a fragrance line that's now carried by Ulta Beauty nationwide. This isn't just about perfume—it's about purpose. Here are a few highlights from the interview: * The meditation that sparked Octavia's leap from nursing to entrepreneurship—and the fear she had to face head-on.   * How a tearful customer showed her the deep emotional impact her product could have.   * Why Octavia sells $100+ fine fragrances at upscale markets—and how it built a grassroots community of superfans.   * The real reason so many people suffer from scent sensitivity, and how her clean, filler-free formulations are changing that.   * Her powerful advice for anyone with a dream they're too scared to pursue: “Why not you?”   Join me, Ramon Vela, as I listen to the episode and discover the story of a founder who's redefining what it means to follow your intuition and create beauty with integrity. You'll walk away inspired and probably wanting to smell every scent she's ever made. Krave Beauty isn't your average K-Beauty brand. “[Our mission] resonates with a lot of people who are really tired of the beauty industry's narrative of ‘more is more,'” CEO and co-founder Liah Yoo told Glossy.  After getting her start working for Amorepacific in Seoul, South Korea, Yoo joined YouTube to share her own skin challenges. “I was documenting my acne skin struggles in my mid 20s, and I literally tried everything,” she said. “Nothing worked until I pressed reset and simplified my routine, going from a 14-step skin-care routine to a super minimal three-step skin-care routine [with] super gentle, minimal, hydrating ingredients.” In today's episode, Yoo walks us through the process of sourcing tamanu oil, a main ingredient in Krave's best-selling $28 Great Barrier Relief Serum. But first, Lexy Lebsack is joined by senior reporter Emily Jensen to discuss the news of the week. This includes Rare Beauty's foray into fragrance with Rare Eau de Parfum, a $75 fragrance created with famous nose Jerome Epinette. It launches at Sephora on August 7. Lebsack and Jensen also discuss a lineup of new C-suite appointments, including new execs at Herbivore and Saltair. Finally, they discuss L'Oréal's latest earnings and a shift happening within the in-office injectable marketplace.

In this episode we also mention the wonderful kit Nicola's put together for those who share her anxiety about flying. Find out more about Zen in the Sky kits @outspokenbeautynicola. But now, let's flit to the fragrant trip to Brighton, and find out which scents Suzy fell for…Soliflore is one of those beautifully curated, cosy shops where walking through the door feels like coming home. Sarah's eye for design and detail is exquisite, with a large central table featuring an ever-evolving showcase of scents, and instead of blotters, there are silken handkerchiefs (stored in vintage tins) sprayed with each fragrance. Featuring a curated selection honed to what Sarah knows her customers are looking for, including beloved brands and some exclusives & indie houses Suzy had never heard of before, it's a place you could happily while away several hours sniffing your way around. And there are gorgeous cards, soaps, chocolates and great gift-y items to tempt every taste! In the short amount of time Suzy had, here are three fragrances she found at Soliflore and immediately fell for…@reserve_en_afrique Aube Lumineuse“The sun rises, flooding the great expanses of the sweeping plains, gracing the wilderness with its wash of pure light. The dawn's intense rays awaken these spectacular lands. Great herds rove majestically in the distance. Bright blue birds perch in the flat-topped acacia trees while giraffes stroll with leisurely grace. The sky is clear. The air is fresh. The fragrance opens with a luminous fresh burst of citrusy notes of Tangerine (South Africa) and Blood Orange (South Africa). A bright heart of fresh Orange Flower (Morocco) and zesty Ginger (Nigeria) is supported by woody base of Cedarwood Atlas (Morocco).”@saintritaparlor Signature Fragrance “Finest quality parfum. Limited unisex fragrance comprised of over 18 rare and organic essential oils. Handmade by Saint Rita Parlor in Los Angeles, California.Rita would tend to her rose garden whilst smoking a hand-rolled tobacco cigarette and drinking a whiskey and water.Notes: Whiskey, Tobacco, and Rose”@arquiste Almond Suede“By Calice Becker. Top notes are Bitter Almond, Honeycomb, Bergamot and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Concrete, Saffron, Neroli, Orange Blossom and Labdanum; base notes are Suede, Pine tar, Sugar and Vanilla Absolute. Almond Suede by Arquiste is a unisex gourmand leather fragrance inspired by Medieval Andalusia and its refined gourmand culture. It balances almond marzipan and suede leather, capturing the essence of the city of Córdoba and almond sweets.”Next week we'll be catching up with Part 2 of Suzy's Brighton Sniffari, and finding out what she went mad for @wild_iris_perfumery!#ad Meanwhile, we promised to pick just *one* favourite each of the fragrances we've loved exploring in our Raconteur Discovery Set II boxes, featuring the new ‘Australiscious' collection, and after MUCH prevarication, Suzy chose *Daintree Rain Tea* and Nicola chose *Killr Vanillr*! Ficifolia Fragrances is only two and a half years old, in which time Sophie has launched 6 individual perfumes as well as the fragrance Flight Deck- a first-to-market offering that I consider one of the most a beautiful examples of thinking outside the box when it comes to converting customers, regardless of industry, that I've come across.I had some questions for Soph about brand building, as that's really the cornerstone of her professional background. She said that for her, it's about “creating a world that people want to return to.” I made note of that while she was speaking and it's stuck with me. That's what it's all about, isn't it? I think this was the perfect episode to start the season with because as much as we do talk about beauty and how that space lights us up, there's so many business nuggets in here- why your journey to starting a brand doesn't have to be linear, why the market circuit is so beneficial for startups, we talked a bit about the natural vs synthetic debate (which, as you can imagine, I have a lot of thoughts on)… just a really juicy but fun chat about a fragrance brand that I am personally obsessed with. Karen has a new live course coming up, on the 7th of July, and in this episode she wants to explore two things that link into that live course - Floral Fragrances and Structure. Working with florals, without experience, can be an overwhelming task that often leads to disappointing results as florals are dense materials that fight with each other if you don't know how to mix them. But, when you get florals right, they can lead to some of the most rewarding results in all of perfume making. In this episode, Karen gives a brief overview of the challenges you will face when working with florals, the methods you can use to overcome them and how, by signing up to her live course, you can become a master of working with florals. KEY TAKEAWAYS Floral materials by their very nature are dense and heavy. This can lead to less than pleasing results the first time you work with them, which can be off putting. However, the answer, as Karen explains, is making sure you have a structure in place. Despite popular belief, working with florals doesn't just mean working with natural products. Karen explains how to mix naturals and synthetics to give your floral fragrances a structure that works. A common mistake people make when working with florals is trying to ‘patch up' a fragrance that doesn't smell the way they were hoping. Karen talks about why this is a mistake and the importance of getting your heart accord correct to avoid this problem. Karen gives a brief overview of the structure she teaches, why it works and what to expect from your fragrances once you've learned it through her live course. BEST MOMENTS “Once you create a solid fragrance structure, you're going to be able to use that in every other fragrance type.” “The issue isn't the materials, it's the space between them.” “People often think that more florals equals better floral fragrance, but it doesn't work like that.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Perfume Making 101 Masterclass  Getting Started Guide Artisan Perfumery Mastermind  ABOUT THE HOST Fragrance expert, author, teacher and speaker; Karen Gilbert runs courses in the UK and online which demystify the secretive world of perfumery in a fun and interactive way. Karen has inspired thousands of students to explore their olfactory sense and create their own personalised fragrances. With extensive product development experience in both the commercial perfumery and the organic skincare industry, Karen is able to offer a unique insight into creating natural and mixed media fragrances for fine fragrance, room scents and skincare/bodycare products using commercial perfumery techniques. Send us a textIn this enriching episode, Joey Pinz meets Russell Graham, a 76-year-old fragrance entrepreneur and teacher of self-discipline. Their conversation, held at the Winthrop Market, dives into more than just scent—it explores the power of mindset, personal growth, and community upliftment.Russell traces his aromatic journey back to the incense-rich days of the 1960s, sharing how smell became both his business and his method for connecting with people. He believes the right fragrance can change how others see you—and more importantly, how you see yourself. But there's more to Russell's story. He's also an educator who teaches classes on self-discipline and anger management, especially for those within the prison industrial complex. With a master's degree earned at age 60 (summa cum laude), Russell proves that personal reinvention has no age limit. His motivation? Life—and his 19 grandchildren.Whether it's how to choose the right scent or how to stay out of trouble, Russell brings wisdom, humility, and focus to every topic. ✅ Top 3 Highlights:
