In this episode of OPP, we dive into Deep Space Nine's Battle Lines, where the only thing more endless than the war is Kai Opaka's new lease on life. Join us as we unpack Kira's emotional gut punch, Sisko's failed attempt at peace talks, and a Gamma Quadrant groundhog day that goes spectacularly sideways. Is this episode a haunting meditation on the cost of violence? Or just a sci-fi version of a family reunion gone wrong? And seriously, does anyone really want to live forever if it means reliving the same grudge match day after day? We're breaking down the good, the bad, and the painfully repetitive in Battle Lines – the one where even death isn't a good enough excuse to call it quits. Hit play, buckle up, and prepare for eternal conflict… Starfleet style.

The Troubles was a major period of conflict right here in the UK within living memory that continues to echo today, yet very few people know much about it. There is even less awareness about a clandestine network of spies that the British state was running - right in the heart of terror groups on both sides, including Stakeknife in the IRA.On this bonus episode of Battle Lines, Venetia Rainey sits down with The Telegraph's investigative audio journalist Cara McGoogan to hear all about her new podcast, which digs into the spies, terrorists and collusion that became a hallmark of the conflict. Was it a civil war? What was the UK trying to achieve with its agents? What was the cost of letting them kill to stay undercover? Could the Troubles be reignited if they're not properly addressed? And is the state getting away with murder? You can listen to the full season now on The Telegraph: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/31/bed-of-lies-new-series-conflict/Or search for 'Bed of Lies' wherever you get your podcasts.Contact us with feedback or ideas:battlelines@telegraph.co.uk @venetiarainey@RolandOliphant Hosted on Acast. HERE you can support Andata e Ritorno - Storie di Montagna. We tell the story of Edoardo Pontiggia's journey to retrace his great-grandfather Angelo's experiences as an Italian soldier during World War I on Monte Grappa. Angelo Pontiggia fought in the war, including the Battle of Solstice in June 1918 where he earned a medal for valor. The texts detail the harsh conditions, intense fighting, and heavy losses suffered by soldiers on Grappa. Despite surviving the war, Angelo contracted tuberculosis and died shortly after. The text was written by Sebastiano Frollo, founder and author of an Italian podcast that explores stories and memories of the mountains. The translation and narration were generated by artificial intelligence; they were later processed and modified to ensure the best possible listening experience. We believe that using this technology makes it possible to share certain types of stories, memories, characters, and underexplored regions with an international audience. We want to give something back to the mountains, and to do so, we've chosen audio as our medium. You also have the opportunity to support and review this project; all the details can be found in the episode description. US President, Donald Trump, likes to say he's the protector of free speech. Yet, his administration has already threatened Democratic Congress members with investigation for criticizing conservatives while withdrawing federal grants that include language it opposes. This as it sanctioned law firms that represent Trump's political opponents and arrested the Palestinian organizer of student protests that Trump criticized as “anti-Semitic, anti-American.” The US president stripping back the government-funded news organisation Voice of America as he accused it of being "anti-Trump" and "radical". So will free speech survive in America? And are we merely witnessing the opening salvos of a war on so-called wokeism? Produced by Rebecca Gnignati, Elisa Amiri, Ilayda Habip, Juliette Laffont.
