We said it once (one episode ago) and we will say it again: it is going to be a Gourmand Year. But on its way there, the gateway to gourmand will be a renaissance of Vanilla™ entering the fragrance matrix. This episode contains our vanilla-scented conspiracy theories and otherwise evidence of the impending Vanilla-ssance. Also, we discuss at length the second coming of D.S.&Durga Pistachio, The Tom Ford Lost Cherry Trilogy, and what even is a modern gourmand anyways.[What we smell like today: D.S. & Durga Pistachio, Frederic Malle Music For A While]Leave us a message on the SYL Hotline at Speakpipe.com/smellyalaterFind us at Smellyalater.liveFollow us on Instagram @smellyalater.mp3

1 Don't boast about tomorrow; for you don't know what a day may bring. 2 Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips. 3 A stone is heavy, and sand is a burden; but a fool's provocation is heavier than both. 4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy? 5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love. 6 The wounds of a friend are faithful, although the kisses of an enemy are profuse. 7 A full soul loathes a honeycomb; but to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet. 8 As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man who wanders from his home. 9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man's friend. 10 Don't forsake your friend and your father's friend. Don't go to your brother's house in the day of your disaster. A neighbor who is near is better than a distant brother. 11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, then I can answer my tormentor. 12 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. 13 Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. Hold it for a wayward woman! 14 He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse by him. 15 A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike: 16 restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand. 17 Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance. 18 Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit. He who looks after his master shall be honored. 19 Like water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man. 20 Sheol* and Abaddon are never satisfied; and a man's eyes are never satisfied. 21 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but man is refined by his praise. 22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, yet his foolishness will not be removed from him. 23 Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds, 24 for riches are not forever, nor does the crown endure to all generations. 25 The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in. 26 The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of a field. 27 There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls. There is a saying, “ What you don't know won't hurt you,” but after this recent product development and lengthy research into Synthetic Fragrances, I would beg to differ. These seemingly innocent chemicals are in the bulk of consumer products and they are wrecking havoc in some exceptionally significant ways right under our nose! If you have concerns with allergies, sensitivities, migraines, weight gain (seemingly for no reason) hormone imbalance, depression, anxiety, low testosterone and fatigue. DO NOT MISS THIS EPISODE! I do believe there is a solid amount of info on the dangers of synthetic fragrances out there but there is a lot more than what has been talked about. Some of what I discovered about this ingredient is just recently begun to be studied and quite a lot seems to be still slipping through the cracks. What we don't know IS hurting us. Smelling good can come with a hefty price tag with the price of perfumes often getting into the hundreds of pounds. But what if there was a cheaper alternative? Listener Callum got in touch because his bottle of expensive perfume is about to run out. The perfume industry is moving away from its commercial French roots to something a little more LA: more diverse, accessible, and artistic. Lindsey Horvath is the youngest woman ever elected to LA County's Board of Supervisors, replacing Sheila Kuehl. She'll be the only renter and millennial among her colleagues there. Two art shows in LA might look like your dining area after Thanksgiving. One features ceramic fruits and vegetables in varying states of freshness, and the other has topsy-turvy flower arrangements.

This week we're bringing you a jam-packed I Don't Get It! The girls talk about their signature high school scents: were you a Betsey Johnson or a Juicy Couture girl? Naz brings up the distinctive smells of certain fast food restaurants, and Lauren tells a truly horrific story about one of the more untrustworthy sandwich chains. Lauren, Ashley, and Naz randomly ended up in New York City at the same time, and they just don't get why people from out of town pretend to know where they're going. Lauren confesses a childhood lie that haunts her to this day. Naz shared a flight with two people who clearly don't believe in the power of love. There's also a lot of intense dinner talk. Like, a lot. Including some speculation about the reduced caloric intake of leftovers and a discussion of Ashley's willingness to eat expired food.
