I'm excited to be chatting with writer/director, Tina Cesa Ward and actor, Rachael Hip-Flores. These ladies first worked together in 2008 when Tina cast Rachael in her ground breaking web series, Anyone But Me. The show went on to win Indie Soap awards, a Clicker award for best drama, a Writers Guild Award for best Original New Media, and more. Rachael won a Streamy for her portrayal of series lead, Vivian. Clearly this was a pairing that worked! And it turned out to be the beginning of a long working relationship, and friendship. Today the ladies talk about casting, from the perspective of both the actor and the director. They talk about what it takes to make a successful working relationship on set, and they share how they keep it fresh after years of working together. If you want to get some great insight, and have some laughs along the way, take a listen!
Best known for award-winning LGBTQ-inspired web series Anyone But Me and Producing Juliet, writer and director Tina Cesa Ward’s latest feminist offering, comic book series Delegates, puts women of color in power and pops with political relevance.
In Episode 1 of Her Process, I chat with award winning writer director, Tina Cesa Ward. Tina, along with Susan Miller, won the first ever Writers Guild of America Award for Original New Media for her hit indie drama series "Anyone But Me". Tina gives us a little insight into how she's always writing, even when she's not writing. We talk about the different hats she wears on her web series productions, how she creates characters, and we discuss labels people find themselves saddled with in the entertainment industry. She also answers the question, "To improvise, or not to improvise?"
We're joined this week by Tina Cesa Ward, Writer and director of Anyone But Me and Good People in Love. We remember Nora Ephron, discuss the fine points of choosing tights over paint for your next fan costume, Apple's new podcast app, and hear Tim and Tina's report from Vidcon. All of this and more on Behind The Video Episode 9.
It's a special edition of New Mediacracy from New York City with a group of rock stars who know the worlds of production, distribution, advertising, and especially, brands. The whole thing was put together and moderated by Jeff Koenig, and brings together Eric Mortensen, Director of Content at blip.tv, Jeremy Redleaf, the creator of Streamy Award-winner Odd Jobs, Wilson Cleveland, producer and head of CJP Digital Media, Jack Ferry, co-creator of $99 Music Videos, Melissa Schneider, also co-creator of $99 Music Videos, Tina Cesa Ward, producer and director of Streamy Award-winner Anyone But Me, and Susan Miller, Obie Award-winning playwright and also producer and writer of Anyone But Me. This is a great follow-up to the LA bubble discussion from a previous show, but it also fills in the blanks with a ton of info about creating shows with brands, the state of advertising in online video, and the problems with celebrities attaching themselves to web productions. For me, the biggest take-away was not about a bubble around LA or New York City, but how clear the division is between YouTube-focused creators and everyone else. Give it a listen, and post your thoughts in the comments. Direct MP3 link
