Today we sit down with David Steinberger and Chip Mosher to discuss the evolution of DSTLRY and the rapidly expanding world of Neon Ichiban, with a major focus on the newly unveiled Neon Ichiban 2.0 platform update. The conversation explores how their backgrounds at comiXology and BOOM! Studios helped shape their creator-first approach to publishing and collectibles, while also diving into the changing nature of fandom, curation, and premium physical media in modern comics culture. David and Chip discuss the philosophy behind Neon Ichiban's evolution, the challenge of balancing collectibility with accessibility, and why they believe thoughtfully curated experiences and high-end presentation still matter in an increasingly digital entertainment landscape. Saurabh Bhatia is the founder of Comix.one, a marketplace, crowdfunding platform and community for indie comic creators, all in one place. In this episode we talk about his 20 years in tech, growing up on A.H. Wheeler stalls in nineties India buying Nagraj, Chacha Chaudhary, Archie and Richie Rich, and the fact that we both kept our Archie collections in newspaper-covered wooden boxes until we were 35.Saurabh ran his own comic book Kickstarter in 2017, raised around six thousand US dollars and produced two printed volumes. What he discovered after his campaign ended is the problem Comix.one now solves. Every creator he spoke to had a campaign in February, another in August, and in between the community they had built just dissolved. Comix.one closes that gap as marketplace, crowdfunding and community in one place.Creators on Comix.one keep 85%. The platform takes 15%. On Amazon, creators hand over around 65% and still have to fight an SEO game. Print on demand through Comix Wellspring now ships books from creators in Australia, the US, Canada, Mexico and the UK to fans in America. There are print partners in Canada and China too, both introduced by creators already in the community. We talk about working alone for two years before his sister joined to build the front end and the catalogue jumped from 200 books to 2,000. About bringing in PR help from people who used to run PR at Archie Comics and manage creators at King Features, the syndicate behind Popeye and Beetle Bailey. About DM-ing the head of marketing at DC Comics on LinkedIn and getting a response. We also get into the deliberate choice not to raise VC money, why well-funded platforms like Comixology and Zestworld kept losing alignment with their communities, the AI debate in illustration, and why Saurabh believes the value is always in the process.Guest links:Website: Instagram: Twitter: YouTube: Host links:Instagram: Website: YouTube: Book the podcast:
Medieval arrives from Comixology Originals with the force of a warhammer crashing into a castle gate. Writer Neil Kleid and artist/colorist Alex Cormack bring an intensity, world-building sharpness, and visual brutality rarely seen in modern fantasy comics. We sat down with the creative team for a high-energy, WEPA-fueled conversation about forging this new world and the personal journeys that brought them here. Kleid brings narrative precision, emotional tension, and the grounded realism that makes the world of Medieval feel lived-inand dangerous. Cormack amplifies every page with gritty textures, kinetic movement, and color choices that plunge readers directly into the story's chaos and atmosphere. Throughout the interview, the creators discussed not only the craft behind the book, but the emotional stakes, risks, and collaborative chemistry that shaped it. From humorous behind-the-scenes stories to unexpected creative challenges, Medieval reflects two creators pushing themselves into new artistic territory. Whether you're a longtime fan of fantasy comics or discovering genre-bending work for the first time, Medieval is a standout release that demands attention. Matthew Arnold, the television and film writer known for NBC's Siberia, Emerald City, and the thriller Shadow People, returns to the world of comics with Outer Lands, his newest sci-fi graphic novel from Comixology Originals. Featuring art by Davide Gianfelice and a powerful cover by Jock, this graphic novel delivers a genre-defying mashup that collides ancient history with modern weaponry, conspiracy, and the dangers of unchecked technology. In Outer Lands, a young Grecian prince is exiled to a mysterious prison island, only to uncover a global secret that reshapes everything he believes. What begins as a sweeping historical epic rapidly evolves into a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller. The story asks timely questions about artificial intelligence, nuclear anxiety, the allure of nostalgia, and the cost of resisting technological change. During our conversation on the Comic Crusaders Podcast, Arnold dives deep into the creative process behind Outer Lands, the artistic chemistry with Gianfelice, and how Jock's visual energy sets the tone from the cover onward. With unexpected twists, bold world-building, and razor-sharp relevance, Outer Lands stands as one of the most exciting upcoming releases in the Comixology Originals lineup. After spending the next year drinking and fighting, seeking a way back home to his girl and New York, Danny's unique form of loud-mouthed chivalry – and 'The Babe,' his custom-designed iron baseball bat – gains the attention of Camelot, and Arthur's Knights of the Round Table!" Live from the Comixology booth at New York Comic Con, Jace chats with writer Neil Kleid about his upcoming Comixology Originals series Medieval. Blending the timeless love of baseball with the mythic world of Camelot, Kleid describes the book as "a New York baseball fan in King Arthur's Court." Inspired by Mark Twain's classic tale, Medieval follows Danny Landau, a blue-collar fan who finds himself transported back to the sixth century, armed with little more than his modern sensibilities and a love of the game. Neil shares how the story evolved from his lifelong passion for baseball, what it was like collaborating with artist Alex Cormack, and why this bloody, emotional, and often hilarious adventure marks a fun departure from his more grounded previous work like The Panic and Nice Jewish Boys. The first issue of Medieval launches November 11 on Comixology, and Neil gives listeners all the details on how to preorder and follow the series' five-issue run.

Recorded live at the Comixology Originals booth during New York Comic Con 2025, Jace sits down with acclaimed writer Mark Guggenheim to discuss his imaginative new series The Adventures of the Ulysses Monarch. Described as an Indiana Jones-style adventure set in the year 3026, the story blends pulpy treasure-hunting with sci-fi wonder as future archaeologists uncover the “ancient” relics of our own 21st century. Guggenheim talks about balancing the spectacle and emotion that drive the book, highlighting the dynamic art by Harvey Tolibao and vibrant colors from Mark Englert, along with the snarky charm of the robot sidekick Francis. He also teases the possibility of another volume as conversations with Comixology continue and shares how readers can explore more of his creative process through his Legal Dispatch newsletter on Substack. It's a lively NYCC conversation that captures the fun, imagination, and emotional heart behind Ulysses Monarch.
Recorded live from the floor of New York Comic Con 2025, Jace sits down with actor and comic creator Thomas Jane to talk about his latest Comixology Originals series, The Lycan. Known for his work in The Punisher, The Expanse, and Grey Matter, Jane dives into his passion for comics and storytelling, describing The Lycan as a gothic romance with werewolves set in 1797—a dark, atmospheric tale blending period drama, wartime tension, and supernatural horror. Drawing inspiration from films like Nosferatu and Brotherhood of the Wolf, the series follows a group of stranded hunters who strike a desperate deal on an isolated British isle, leading to chaos, blood, and unexpected twists. Jane discusses the advantages of digital storytelling through Comixology's panel-by-panel reading experience, the excitement of eventually collecting the full story in print, and the parallels between his work as an actor and as a writer shaping emotion and pacing. The conversation captures the infectious energy of NYCC as Jane reflects on connecting with fans, celebrating creativity, and keeping the love of comics alive through every medium.
Hey everyone, let's take a trip to Exorcism Island! It's a tropical paradise with sunny skies, pristine beaches…..but with demons. Lotsa demons. But don't take my word for it, here's a look at the story: Following a terrifying confrontation with a possessed woman, Father Gigi Amato finds himself sent to a remote Caribbean Island run by the Vatican to join a group of priests tasked with looking after the most troubled, long-term, demonic possession cases. The group of psychologically and emotionally bruised priests bicker and bond in their attempt to keep the madness of the island under control, but dark forces are working against them from all sides as evil digs its nails into their spiritually poisoned, isolated home. This new series from Comixology launches Oct. 21 and series writer Jordan Thomas joins me to talk about the origin of the story and what it was like working with artist and longtime fiend Chris Matthews. Jordan goes into the characters and what has led to them calling Exorcism Island home and what we can expect over the next five issues.

In the recent Comixology release “Outer Lands,” a young prince living in a seemingly Ancient Grecian world is exiled to a prison isle to keep him from assuming the throne, he unintentionally discovers a massive global conspiracy. It's a great story with a twist that will really surprise you. Series writer Matthew Arnold joins us to talk about how the series lived for awhile in his mind, writing so much that when the time came to bring it to life, much of it was ready to go. We discuss the team behind this, including artist Davide Gianfelice, who is best known for his work on “Northlanders,” and a cover by artist Jock, whose comics work includes “Batman” and “Wytches.” Matthew dives into the in-depth worldbuilding and research that he did for “Outer Lands” and the modern-day themes that were blended into the story. We talk about characters, specifically Prince Heron, the series protagonist who may or may not be the hero of the story. Matthew also gives advice on getting that creative ball rolling and how to find a team to work with.
In this wide-ranging talk, writer Paul Cornell dives into his latest projects and big-picture views on the worlds of comics and science fiction. We begin with his cheeky mystery Who Murdered Nessie?, then turn to his hard-hitting historical tale for Commando, exploring how he blends genre with grounded war storytelling. Cornell also reveals details of his bold new comic book company Cosmic Lighthouse-in partnership with Comixology, where he's recruiting acclaimed science fiction authors to create original comics set adjacent to their established universes—fresh stories that expand the imaginative space of their novels without being simple tie-ins. It's a creator-driven initiative aimed at building bridges between prose and comics. Of course, no conversation with Cornell would be complete without touching on Doctor Who and Star Trek. He shares his perspective on the futures of both franchises, the challenges of writing within their vast mythologies, and how fandom itself shapes their ongoing evolution. What emerges is a portrait of a creator restlessly innovating—whether he's writing a mystery about Scotland's most famous monster, reimagining World Wars through comics, or launching ambitious new publishing experiments that cross genres and mediums.

They couldn't let go. Thomas Jane and Mike Carey resurrect The Lycan, a comics project languishing for over fifteen years. Jane and screenwriter David James Kelly initiated the concept and hired Carey to write the script. An artist was also hired. That artist disappeared. An opportunity arose years later, and a new artist, Diego Yapur, finally materialized this ruthless tale of adventure and horror. The North Sea. 1797. A ship shatters on the shore of a Scottish isle. The hunters within spill upon the sand, encountering a Red Coat regiment and a Convent-turned-Fortress. The three factions mistrust each other but must find unity if they're to defend themselves from a hirsute plague. The Lycan recalls the gnarliest stories in the best comic book anthologies: Twisted Tales, Creepy, Vault of Horror, etc. Yet, it's given the space that writers like Bruce Jones were never afforded. Thomas Jane and Mike Carey are confident storytellers who've spent a lifetime consuming this beautiful medium and know they can let the title and the many engaging characters below it do the work. The beast is coming, but in The Lycan #1, the horror explored is utterly, painfully human. With the French Revolution on the horizon, paranoia grips everyone, and the faith carried by pirates, soldiers, and nuns is challenged and found fractured. How can they possibly fight their doggie dinner destiny? The Lycan allows our podcast conversation with Thomas Jane and Mike Carey to travel into various caves and crannies. We dig into their passion for the comic book medium and how it differs from movies (The Punisher) and novels (The Girl With All The Gifts). We discuss the comic's complicated origin and the challenge of collaboration, as well as the powerful, relatable themes at this book's center. Fear, paranoia, and faith - who needs a werewolf to do you in? The Lycan #1 is now available on ComiXology but will eventually see physical release through Ablaze.
