Farmer, NARC, race car driver and business owner, this week's man of the hour has a done a little bit of everything on his way to the pages of Instagram. Join Sitka and HHA Sports Ambassador John Mulligan as he shares his journey from growing up hunting in Kentucky to life as a personality and content creator in the outdoors. A self proclaimed workaholic, John's short film "Work More Hours" was inspired by something his later father impressed upon him to get the most out of each and every day and the rewards will follow. Nearly giving up on hunting all together at one point, Mulligan was gifted a bow by a close friend who knew that it would spark Johnny Utah to reconsider. And reconsider he did, becoming part owner of Wicked Tree Gear, starting to film his hunts and ultimately working up to a career revolving around his love of archery and working with some of the most popular brands in the industry. It wasn't an easy road though as John discusses his time in law enforcement, specifically in the dangerous world of a narcotics agent. We talk about PTSD at this point in the episode as he reflects on some of the things he and his colleagues saw that they would much rather forget. Escaping from the "concrete jungle" to the peace and serenity of the outdoors was a saving grace for our guest and he drives home just how important it is to unplug and recharge when life gets too heavy. We also dive into naming those elusive target bucks and how much satisfaction a hunter feels tagging out after a three or four year chase as well as the origin behind his 90's themed nickname. Clocking in at an hour and half, I feel that he and I could have talked for hours. With an enthusiastic yet laid back demeanor, John made this a very easy conversation and one that we will certainly do again in the not so distant future.
