Today we're talking about something everybody in barrel racing has an opinion on — producing barrel races. Renea Bolling is behind Double B Productions and the Barrel Bash, she's a founder of the BBR, and she's had a front-row seat to more than two decades of change in the barrel racing industry. Today we're going back to how it started, how producing has changed, what contestants don't always see and, of course, some of the good, the bad and the ugly that comes with putting on barrel races year after year. We all need producers to do what we love and Renea is one of the best - and we thank her for her dedication to our sport! This week's episode is brought to you by Chewy! Send us Fan Mail In this episode, return guest Derek Schlender ("Schlender 5 Productions") joins the podcast. He brings along the movie Dragonheart: A New Beginning. Marty and Clif give Derek the movie Rollerball (2002) to watch.First up is Rollerball, the much-maligned remake of the 1975 sci-fi classic. Clif, Marty, and Derek dissect everything from the chaotic editing and baffling storytelling to the early-2000s soundtrack overload, while asking how a movie with this much money and talent behind it could go so spectacularly off the rails. Then it's on to Dragonheart: A New Beginning, the direct-to-video follow-up to the fantasy favorite. The gang struggles to find anything resembling the magic of the original as they pick apart the effects, performances, questionable story choices and a dragon that doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Even Derek admits he may have pushed his luck with these picks. But, sometimes tearing apart a bad movie can be just as entertaining as celebrating a great one.Along the way: fake Russian accents, Pink and Slipknot cameos, Scooby-Doo comparisons, poisoned skeletons, dragon anatomy and Derek apologizing over and over.Support the showFind our films here:The Love Song of William H ShawRevenge of ZoeWriting Fren-ZeeMaking Pondo on FacebookBlueskyInstagramMaking Pondo on Letterboxd:Season OneSeason TwoSeason ThreeSeason FourTheme Song "The Rain" by Russ PacePhotos by Geoffrey Notkin

Five first names, five parts of the country, five different jobs, and not one of them looking to be believed.A long-haul driver in northwest Montana counts fourteen deer on a March night and then watches something cross the westbound lane in three strides at three-forty in the morning, and goes back sixteen days later to walk the ditch in daylight.A twenty-three-year-old fire lookout in northern California puts eight-power binoculars on a salvage cut for twelve minutes, takes a bearing off the firefinder while she's watching, hits it with a bullhorn, and writes the whole thing into a government logbook in pencil.A seventy-eight-year-old Wisconsin dairyman describes an October evening in nineteen seventy-three when thirty-one Holsteins wouldn't come up the hill and his stock dog got under the porch steps, and what his father pulled off the top wire the next morning and put in the kitchen stove that same night. An emergency room tech in Arkansas gets forty seconds at forty-one yards from a climbing stand, then sits in that tree for two hours and forty minutes because the ground between her and her truck runs the wrong direction. And a West Virginia line crew, three nights into an ice storm restoration, has four of five men looking up the right-of-way at the edge of the light while the generator runs.Email BrianJoin Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteHave you experienced a Bigfoot sighting, Sasquatch encounter, Dogman experience, UFO sighting, or any unexplained cryptid or paranormal event deep in the woods? Welcome to another episode of Beats, Vines & Life! Today, host MJ Towler sits down with award-winning filmmaker, storyteller, and founder of Nomadic Bear Productions, Christopher McGilvray. Based out of Santa Cruz, Chris's journey takes us from his upbringing at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains through the heyday of Silicon Valley's rise, to his creative evolution at USC, global travels, and ultimately to a decade crafting cinematic narratives for iconic wine brands like Ridge Vineyards. In this episode, we explore how Gen X culture, family, and the pursuit of passion intersect on screen and in the vineyard. From childhood trips across Blossom Hill Road and the changing face of Los Gatos, to discovering a love of film with classics like Back to the Future and The Breakfast Club, Chris's story is a trip through the cultural touchstones that defined a generation. Chris shares how his immersion in linguistics and storytelling shaped his approach to documentary filmmaking, shedding light on the deep connections between land, legacy, and the people who make wine. We'll dig into the making of Eden, his acclaimed film about Mount Eden Vineyards, family succession, and what it really means to chase your creative vision—even when it challenges the fabric of family. Along the way, expect reflections on music, philosophy, the art of conversation, why the Santa Cruz Mountains remain one of California's best-kept secrets, and why sometimes the most powerful stories start, simply, with a glass of wine.Pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of something good, and join us for a conversation about music, movies, wine, and life—Gen X style. For more information about Eden the movie click the link!Follow Chris on IG!____________________________________________________________Until next time, cheers to the mavericks, philosophers, deep thinkers, and wine drinkers! Part Three of Born Wild: Koda's Odyssey, Volume Two turns away from the battlefield and toward something far more dangerous. Trust. It starts with a note left under a stone. Eli's parents have learned the truth about Koda, and the boy who kept the secret for three years wants to arrange a meeting.Mira begs Koda to walk away, to move deeper into the forest the way the clans always have when humans get too close. But Koda has just watched sasquatch die to defend this territory, and he's done running. If contact with the human world is coming either way, he'd rather it come on his own terms, with people who already understand. So Koda makes a choice his father can barely stomach, and everything begins to change. What grows out of that first meeting is something no sasquatch alive has ever dared to build, a fragile alliance between two species who were never supposed to know each other, held together by a handful of humans willing to risk everything to protect something wild and hidden. This is the quiet heart of the book, where the story stops being about who wins a fight and starts being about who's brave enough to cross a line. But an alliance this young is a fragile thing, and the forest has never cared about fragile things.By the time this stretch of the road ends, a boy sits at his window looking out at the dark, and somewhere in that same darkness, Koda looks back.Email BrianJoin Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteHave you experienced a Bigfoot sighting, Sasquatch encounter, Dogman experience, UFO sighting, or any unexplained cryptid or paranormal event deep in the woods? Having grown up in Nashville most of his life, John is classically trained in theater/music and the Performing Arts, in addition to a background in communications, radio, and television. When he came back to the Music City after some time away, a Tears for Fears cover show that he attended helped plant the seed for John to create a sense of community within the Nashville music scene and give back.  With his E.Y.E. Productions imprint (Everything You Ever Productions), John helps put on themed shows in Nashville which also give back to various charitable and non-profit organizations. Featuring an array of artists and talent within the local music scene performing cover songs, E.Y.E. Productions events over the years have included New Wave Prom Night (80s hits), The Halloween Ball (Halloween classics), and THE VOID (industrial, alternative, and nü-metal). Additionally, John fronts the Nashville-based Nine Inch Nails tribute band Not Your Nails, the Korn tribute band Karrot, performs as The Nashville Krampus, and is part of the East Nashville Clowns.  On Saturday, August 1st, E.Y.E. Productions is putting on another addition of THE VOID at Eastside Bowl in Nashville. Featuring Not Your Nails performing "Broken" in its entirety, this addition of THE VOID will also feature other Nashville talent performing covers from the likes of Slipknot, Tool, Poppy, Type O Negative, and Depeche Mode, among others. The event will raise money for MusiCares, a non-profit which helps musicians. In this episode, John talks with Mike about how he got into music and the performing arts, having a supportive family that fostered creativity and giving back, creating E.Y.E. Productions, building a sense of community in the local Nashville music scene, some of his favorite vinyl albums, 80s TV and movies, and more. Part Two of Born Wild: Koda's Odyssey, Volume Two opens in the strange quiet that follows a fight nobody really won.Kabota and his envoy come home from the clearing alive, and to the younger sasquatch that alone feels like a victory. They faced the Dogmen, they drew blood, they sent the pack running. But Kabota has led long enough to know the difference between surviving a fight and winning a war, and he understands what the celebration in the caves does not.The Dogmen will be back. Next time they'll be ready. So the war drums begin. Both sides retreat to lick their wounds and sharpen their strategy, and the forest that once felt like home to Koda hardens into something closer to a battlefield with borders. Patrols double. Boundaries are drawn. Every scent on the wind carries a new weight, and the elders find themselves split between the ones who counsel patience and the ones who can already taste the coming blood.Caught in the middle of it is Koda, fifteen years old and carrying the memory of everything the last three years cost him, still hearing his father's warning that violence should be the last choice and never the first. He's beginning to see how thin the line is between defending a home and starting a war, and how few of the sasquatch around him seem willing to walk it.And out past the tree line, the thing the humans are building keeps growing, indifferent to which side wins.Email BrianJoin Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteHave you experienced a Bigfoot sighting, Sasquatch encounter, Dogman experience, UFO sighting, or any unexplained cryptid or paranormal event deep in the woods? How can art serve as an act of resistance?    In this episode of Women of Color Rise, I speak with Jamila Ponton Bragg, founder of JamRock Productions and a leader named to the Broadway Women's Fund "Women to Watch" list. After 20 years in the nonprofit world, Jamila pivoted to theater, co-producing hits like Passover (2021), Death of a Salesman (2022), Tony Nominated Best Play Fat Ham (2023), The Whiz (2024), Gypsy (2024) and Soul Train (2025).   A proud African American woman, Jamila is on a mission to ensure women's stories have depth and aren't confined to tropes. She shares how she stayed true to her values while navigating the high-stakes world of Broadway. She shares lessons for rising leaders: •Art is Resistance. In a world that often marginalizes women of color, telling our stories is a powerful way to fight back. •Trust Your Instincts. Surround yourself with "your people"—those whose values and tastes align with your mission. •The Power of Showing Up. Leadership isn't always big gestures; it's the follow-up email, the check-in, and being present for others. •Find Your Mentors. Don't be afraid to send that "cold email." People are often more willing to help than you think. •Keep Your Message Consistent. Reliability and a clear mission build the trust needed to fundraise and lead through tough climates.   Jamila's story is a reminder that when we stand in our identity and support one another, we can change the narrative on the world's biggest stages.   Get full show notes and more information here: https://analizawolf.com/episode-125-art-as-resistance-uplifting-womens-stories-on-broadway-with-jamila-ponton-bragg
