In this episode of Dream Malayalam, I sit down with Ashin Krishna, founder of Altersage Innovations, the startup behind CocoBot — described as the world's fastest, lightest, and most advanced coconut harvesting machine. Kerala faces a growing shortage of skilled coconut climbers. Harvesting is risky, physically demanding, and increasingly unsustainable. Instead of accepting the problem, Ashin asked a bold question: How can I solve this problem? From prototypes and early failures to building a real tech startup in Kerala, Ashin shares the mindset, challenges, and vision behind CocoBot. We discuss innovation in agriculture, building hardware startups in India, and why world-class technology can emerge from local problems. This is more than a robotics story. It's about courage, persistence, and creating solutions from the ground up.

Lai-Ling Su: Why the Us-Versus-Them Mentality Is the Fastest Path to Team Self-Destruction Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes.   "The quickest way to self-destruction is to have an us-versus-them mentality. Because it permeates into every behavior, every action or inaction, and it impacts every single outcome as a result of it." - Lai-Ling Su   Lai-Ling shares a compelling story about a leadership team in healthcare technology that was self-sabotaging their way into non-delivery—so much so that critical commercial outcomes were at serious risk. Yet the team themselves couldn't see it; it was invisible to them. She identifies three layers of the us-versus-them dynamic that needed unpicking.  First, recent M&A activity had merged a larger corporate entity with a smaller, more nimble one, and people remained ferociously loyal to leaders from their old organizations.  Second, business goals were separate from technology goals, causing people to fall back to people-pleasing within their direct reporting lines rather than collaborating on shared purpose.  Third, the tension between growth ambitions and addressing legacy activities created another divide. What struck Lai-Ling most was how these "classic" patterns were invisible to those experiencing them—they just accepted it as part of doing business. The destruction wasn't always stormy and visible; sometimes it was silent, with work piling up, nothing getting done, yet no one overtly upset.   In this segment, we talk about the importance of creating awareness and how Scrum Masters must be willing to point out these patterns, even at the risk of being seen as the odd ones out.   Self-reflection Question: What "classic" anti-patterns might be invisible in your organization right now because everyone has accepted them as just part of doing business? Featured Book of the Week: The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande Lai-Ling approaches the book recommendation differently—she believes no single book has fundamentally influenced her, but books as a collective have made her who she is. She emphasizes reading far and wide across all topics and genres, looking for patterns in unexpected places. One standout is The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande, which challenges the perception that checklists take away autonomy. Gawande writes about how checklists are a rapid-fire communication tool that can mean the difference between a seriously injured soldier dying on the battlefield or making it to a hospital with a good chance of survival. Lai-Ling also recommends When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, about a surgeon who became a cancer patient and had to navigate a massive identity shift—much like the identity shift we ask leaders to make during transformations.   [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]

Dakota Collins was born the son of professional hippies - his mom worked in medicine, and dad in education - with construction on the side - and Dakota was raised largely free-range in the hills southwest of Fort Collins.  He was born with a club-foot, which required repeated casting to straighten, and which eventually caused him to develop scoliosis.  And then he discovered slacklining!  In a matter of months his spine was straight and his life transformed, and he soon travelled the nation and the world as a professional slackliner, motivational speaker, and adventurist!  He later co-founded Breathe - a mindful community featuring yoga, extreme slacklining, meditation and more - and met his now wife at a Breathe festival - where they spent the full week together, and then she immediately joined the man she'd just met on a 30-day backpacking trip in Alaska.  I write all this to share the notion that when Dakota Collins does stuff - he does it all the way!  Dakota founded Grey Rock Landscape and Construction in the fall of 2020, and hired his teenage sister to mow lawns, and built the business to 4 full-time employees before he quit his full-time job with Larimer County.  Now 5 years in and 18 employees strong, Grey Rock has become one of the premier landscape design and installation companies in Northern Colorado.  And it's all about culture.  It seems everyone loves Dakota, and you will too - so please tune in and enjoy my conversation with Dakota Collins.  The LoCo Experience Podcast is sponsored by: Purpose Driven Wealth Thrivent: Learn more

Glen brings back Joe Evangelliti to share his “5 Bottlenecks” framework—a universal set of constraints that keep entrepreneurs (especially real estate investors) stuck. The 5 bottlenecks framework 1) Mindset / limiting beliefs You don't get what you “conceive”—you get what you believe you can achieve. “Rational lies” = the stories we tell ourselves to avoid action (not smart enough, not ready, what will people think, etc.). Fastest unlock question: “What do I want?” (not what spouse/parents/friends want). 2) Clarity + reverse engineering (Point B → Point A) People plan vacations with precision but plan their lives in vague “wish” language. Define Point B clearly, assess Point A honestly, then close the gap. 3) Toolkit audit (simplify your tools/systems) Too much tech can create complexity and distraction. Quote-worthy idea: if you can't do it with notepad + pen + phone, software won't save you. Build consistent deal flow first; avoid shiny-object “easy button” chasing. 4) Rule of 168 (time control) Everyone has 168 hours/week—top performers just allocate it differently. Focus on: High-income activities (directly produce revenue now) High-gain activities (life/relationships/health that matter long-term) Track what moves the needle (e.g., offers made). Many people feel busy but do zero needle-moving actions. Calendar discipline = presence. “Show me your calendar and I can almost tell you your net worth.” 5) The trifecta (the “bow”) Execution (do the work, ship the offer, take the shot) Course correction (pivot around obstacles instead of quitting or forcing a broken plan) Radical accountability (someone outside your inner circle who won't let you off the hook)

Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Want a stronger bench without the burnout cycle of “max out Mondays”? We dive into the real drivers of pressing strength—scapular mechanics, intelligent frequency, and targeted accessories—then map them onto five influential programs lifters actually use: Sheiko, Smolov Jr, Westside Conjugate, Wendler's 5/3/1, and the Bulgarian-style daily max approach. Along the way, we explain how to spot and fix sticking points at the chest, midrange, and lockout, and why bar path, elbow angle, foot pressure, and a controlled thoracic arch can add pounds fast without beating up your shoulders.I walk through a practical hybrid template I use with clients chasing 225, 275, or 315: straight-set specificity for bench, CCA blocks to round out pressing angles and back strength, and a weekly wave of heavy work, volume, and speed. We cover warm-up that actually potentiates—foam roller push-ups, cuff activation, med-ball slams—plus reps in reserve, rest intervals that respect the ATP-PC system, and how to use heavy eccentrics, pauses, boards, and pins to train your nervous system above goal weight. You'll hear clear cues for breathing and bracing, how to line up on the bench, and why a slight arch is a tool, not a sin. This conversation is built for coaches and serious lifters who want outcomes, not fluff. You'll get actionable progression ideas, a retesting timeline that protects momentum, and a simple method to choose accessories by reviewing video and training the exact range where your lift slows. We also talk shop about creating a PR culture in your gym—monthly focus lifts, leaderboards, and community Saturdays—so clients stay engaged and keep showing up.If this helped you plan your next training block, tap follow, share it with a training partner, and leave a quick review. We sit down with UK coach Graham to unpack what separates “certified” from truly “qualified,” breaking down how short courses can be the starting line—but never the finish—of a serious coaching career. From navigating UK awarding bodies like Active IQ and YMCA to understanding rent-versus-shifts models at PureGym and The Gym Group, we dig into the practical choices that shape your development and earning power. The heart of the conversation is coaching craft. Graham explains why the first 28 days with a client set the trajectory for long-term success, and how a clear onboarding process—assessment, communication, expectations, and feedback loops—builds confidence on both sides. We talk about translating anatomy into human language, ditching Latin for cues clients can use, and designing programs that progress or regress to match real lives and crowded gyms. You'll hear how to start natural conversations on the gym floor, stop opening with “Want PT?”, and instead lead with help that builds trust and makes selling unnecessary. We also address the allure and risk of business mentorships. Graham shares how to vet programs, avoid the shiny scams, and prioritize mentors who teach assessments, communication, and systems. The path he recommends is honest and demanding: one to three years of apprenticeship or mentorship inside an elite environment, building a portfolio of transformations, strength PRs, and rehab wins. That proof makes content easier to create and clients easier to retain. By the time you pivot to independent or online coaching, you're not guessing—you're scaling what already works. If you're serious about coaching excellence, this episode is your roadmap: develop soft skills, master onboarding, build undeniable proof, and only then go big. Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Shoulder pain doesn't have to sideline smart training. We walk you through a clean, confidence-building process for working with a 50-year-old client who wants a full-body session with an upper-body focus, starting with a conversation that actually matters: what success looks like today and in six months. From there, we blend a tight shoulder screen with targeted soft tissue and a practical strength plan that respects biology and builds belief. You'll hear exactly how we ask about pain—acute or chronic, what flares it, what calms it—and then run quick checks: humeral flexion to the wall, cross-body reach, hand-behind-back lift-off, and a gentle scaption break test. When red flags are clear, we use focused holds on upper traps, pec minor, and infraspinatus, retesting immediately so the client feels a real change. That opens the door to a shoulder-friendly program: incline dumbbell pressing for range and comfort, face pulls for scapular control, and planks to connect trunk and shoulder. We balance it with pronated dumbbell rows, smart push-up progressions to restore scap motion, and accessories like lateral raises that won't rob your main lifts of tension. To tie it together, we lean on the CCA framework—core pattern, core pattern, accessory—cycling through three rounds of eight to twelve reps, adjusting loads for training age. We finish with landmine work: squats for lower-body integration, a reachy landmine press for shoulder mechanics, and anti-rotation to lock in control. Throughout, we model trainer engagement that goes beyond an iPad: tactile cues, spotting with intent, and coaching presence that justifies the investment. Finally, we share a straightforward way to sell without the salesy vibe: recap wins, offer two clear package options, and handle objections with calm questions—not pressure. Not ready to commit? Keep the relationship alive with useful resources, check-ins, and a comped follow-up tied to a review or referral. If this approach helps you or your clients move better and feel stronger, subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with a coach who could use a sharper shoulder plan.Want to become a SUCCESSFUL personal trainer? Matt's story starts with baseball. A promising career cut short by a hip injury (the “Bo Jackson thing,” as he calls it) led him to find a different path — one that started at TSTI in Waco and ended up shaping thousands of dentures, dozens of labs, and one of the fastest-growing state dental lab associations in the country. From living in an RV at the end of an airport runway while in school… to learning how to tear down porcelain ovens and rebuild lathes… to mastering ambidextrous denture setups with a soldering iron (yes, really), Matt built his foundation the old-school way. And he built it fast. We dive deep into his 12-year run with Affordable Dentures — managing high-production labs doing 60+ arches a day, training technicians across the country, helping open over 200 sites, and eventually becoming a regional leader. He shares what it takes to build systems that move that kind of volume — staggered lunches, zero idle time, and a whole lot of hustle. From there, Matt takes us through Barksdale Dental Lab, the early days of All-on-4, learning analog conversion workflows before digital streamlined everything, and why zirconia has changed the long-term game for full-arch restorations. When Matt returned to Texas and got involved with the Dental Laboratory Association of Texas (DLAT), the show had about a dozen booths. Today? Over 100. He breaks down how restructuring leadership, empowering the right people, removing outside management costs, and reinvesting in members transformed DLAT into one of the strongest state meetings in the country. If you want to grow your business, you need clear insight into what's happening inside your operation and across your customer journey. That's where Icortica comes in. Mitch Stein In this timely and data-packed episode, Rob Harter sits down with Mitch Stein, Head of Strategy at Chariot, to unpack one of the most important—and fastest-growing—trends in nonprofit fundraising: Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs). With economic uncertainty, shifting donor behavior, and fewer individuals giving overall, nonprofit leaders must understand how to meet donors where they are. And increasingly, that's through DAFs. Mitch shares eye-opening statistics, including that nearly 20% of all charitable donations now come from DAFs, totaling $65 billion in grants in 2024 alone. He explains how DAFs work, why donors love them, common misconceptions around payout rates, and—most importantly—how nonprofits can create a clear and effective DAF strategy to increase revenue and donor engagement. If you're looking to future-proof your fundraising efforts, this is a must-listen episode. Key Topics Include: The explosive growth of Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs), with $326 billion currently held in DAF accounts Why approximately 1 in 5 charitable dollars now comes from a DAF How DAFs work and the tax advantages that attract donors Common misconceptions about DAF payout rates and “hoarding” concerns The 10x increase in average gift size when donors switch from credit cards to DAFs Practical steps nonprofits can take to build a DAF strategy How to leverage DAF Day and integrate DAF messaging into existing fundraising campaigns Mentioned in This Episode: Chariot This Episode is Sponsored By: DonorBox Links to Resources: Interested in Leadership and Life Coaching? In this episode recorded live at our Live Uncut event, Richard Hill sits down with Lucie , founder of Hair Syrup, to unpack one of the most inspiring eCommerce success stories of the past five years. What started as a personal solution to hair problems in a Warwick University student kitchen has exploded into an 8-figure business that became the most viral hair care brand on TikTok globally. Lucie walks us through the moment she realized Hair Syrup was going to be massive, her unconventional journey from mixing oils with measuring spoons to managing 7 hours of meetings daily while staying creative, and why her Dragons' Den rejection turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to her business. She explains how she reduced TikTok Shop revenue from 49% to less than 23% through strategic diversification, her unconventional hiring philosophy of not hiring people who've had traditional jobs, and why content creation should come naturally if you're in the right role. This episode covers the untold story of what really happened on Dragons' Den including footage that never aired, why Steven Bartlett's concerns about platform dependency were valid but the exposure was priceless, going viral for three consecutive weeks after the show and turning down 60 investors who reached out, shifting TikTok from revenue driver to brand awareness touchpoint, the power of Meta ads, email marketing, SMS campaigns, gift with purchase strategies, and in-person events for building a DTC brand, managing the balance between operational meetings and creative work as a founder, and why the Goldman Sachs 10KSB program transformed her business more than any book could. Lucie's story proves that sometimes the best businesses aren't meticulously planned, they find you. With no formal business training, no business books read, and starting with just a few hundred pounds, she's built a beauty empire that rivals established brands globally. Whether you're in eCommerce, building a DTC brand, managing social media strategy, or fascinated by modern entrepreneurship, this episode is packed with tactical insights on platform diversification, content creation at scale, viral marketing, and building a brand that resonates deeply with customers. We break down how soluble fiber binds bile salts, nudging the liver to pull cholesterol and lower LDL, then turn the biochemistry into a clear coaching system clients can actually follow. No fear of carbs, no butter-in-coffee gimmicks—just smart mechanics, practical habits, and results that last.We share a simple structure that beats diet hopping: month one builds awareness and routines, month two adds nutrition coaching with honest accountability, and the following months refine macros where useful. You'll hear why “carbs aren't essential” misses the point for athletes, how energy balance coexists with performance and sanity, and why the 18‑of‑21 meals approach creates consistency without perfection. We put tactics on the table: a short boot camp week for momentum, portion games that reveal hidden calories, and restaurant strategies that save thousands without killing joy. This conversation is also a playbook for trainers who want to level up. Learn how to partner with registered dietitians and physical therapists, price and position nutrition services, and turn education into an additional revenue stream. We use first‑principles coaching—steps, sleep, stress, hydration, protein, and fiber—to shift behavior, broaden what “progress” means, and keep clients from assigning moral weight to food. Expect a blend of physiology, psychology, and business you can implement today. If this helped reframe nutrition and coaching, follow the show, share it with a coach who needs a system, and leave a quick review so more listeners can find us.Want to become a SUCCESSFUL personal trainer? We turn that tense moment into a masterclass on scope, language, and movement by breaking down C6–C7 findings, clarifying true red flags, and showing how a quick consult with a physical therapist can transform fear into a clear plan. Instead of hiding behind corrective exercise acronyms, we lay out a practical path to real credibility: anatomy fluency, precise coaching, and a trusted referral network. We walk through how to read common cervical terms without stepping outside your scope, why peripheral symptoms like numbness or burning change the plan, and how to use the biopsychosocial model to reduce threat and improve outcomes. You'll hear a simple, effective session flow—brief targeted correctives followed by progressive overload with squats, step-ups, rows, planks, and face pulls—designed to build capacity without provoking symptoms. The emphasis is on clarity over complexity: coach scapular protraction and retraction, cue depression instead of shrugging, and modify load and positions based on feedback, not fear.Along the way, we question the corrective exercise trap, the posture hype cycle, and the industry's obsession with letters over leadership. Real leverage comes from hands-on education and an active network of DPTs and specialists who answer the phone, share nuance, and send referrals. Their work has been trying to capture information in ways that have never been done before. O'Brien has an update on how all that turned out, for our Tipping Point series. Send me a messageHeating cities by opening windows is not a joke. It's how many buildings still control temperature in winter, and it's a climate disaster hiding in plain sight. In this episode, I'm joined by Drew Maggio, Technical Director at Highmark Building Efficiency, to unpack why buildings are one of the biggest, most underestimated levers in the climate transition, especially in dense cities like New York.Buildings account for roughly 70% of New York City's emissions, yet much of the stock was designed for an era of cheap fossil fuels, crude controls, and worst-case thinking. Drew works at the sharp end of fixing that. We talk about what actually breaks when you try to electrify old buildings, and why bad assumptions, not bad technology, are slowing progress. You'll hear why oversizing heat pumps for rare freezing days drives up costs and kills projects. We dig into how treating heat as a resource, not waste, unlocks massive gains, from wastewater heat recovery to capturing subway heat that currently just bakes tunnels to 100º F. And you might be surprised by how much energy can be recovered before it ever leaves a building. We also get into Local Law 97, New York's landmark building emissions regulation, and why it's forcing real-world change instead of glossy pledges. This is a grounded, practical conversation about decarbonisation, climate tech, policy, and the uncomfortable reality that many “heritage” systems are simply uncontrolled systems we've tolerated for too long.
